  1. I added 100mm to the main bed and 50mm to the swan neck. This shows where I extended each part. You can got as much or as little as you please but those measurements keep it to a fairly decent scale length.
  2. What measurements you looking for ? Always willing to help if I can.
  3. That's the one. Sorry I didn't reply sooner I've been on call all night and most of today. If you do use that one try to apply it just before bed so it gets time to go really hard before you eat. Mate at work tried it but only waited a few hours and it crumbled quite quickly.
  4. I used Den Tek temparin a few years ago to patch two teeth up I smashed on site, held up ok and dentist said it seemed good stuff when I had them sorted about a week later.
  5. Really depends on your chosen ESC. Some servos and ESC just don't work well together. Personally I've used Turnigy and power HD in my heavy used build and cheap China jobs in the shelf queen's.
  6. Welcome to the forum. You are right 80t is a good speed motor, as for the best I've always used the cheap Chinese black can motors. Plenty of torque and cheap to replace if they expire. If you prefer a branded motor the Carson poison motors seem favourite. Radio wise the more channels the better, 3 being absolutely minimum if you want to use the 3 speed box. 10 channel radios are commonplace when running extra lights and functions. Plenty of lads I run with use flysky radios or if the budget allows spectrum. As for light kits the Beier system is one of the most flexible and expandable systems available, however the GT power system can be made to work well, it really depends on your budget. Personally I don't run every weekend so a tidy shelf build with use ability is my goal and each truck has around 1k in it, the other lads in the club have upwards of 5k in some trucks. The possibilities are endless with these.
  7. For a basic build without light and sound a budget of around £700 is realistic on a Famous kit. Having had a look at a Hercules Hobby kit I'm far from impressed with the parts quality of them but if it's a occasion use kit and it helps with the budget then they are acceptable. Rough estimate even my most basic Scania 6x4 stands at over £1000 and that is still a fairly basic build. Essential upgrades are a higher turn motor, 80t is perfect in my opinion, bearings to replace bushings and front axle as the standard one is so sloppy it makes them impossible to drive in tight spaces. There are a couple of my build threads on here, not sure how complete they are after the postimage mess up though, they should help with ideas for upgrades and what's involved.
  8. Very impressed with the 2 new apprentice's today. Today's task was rebuilding hub reductions on a dummy axle. Both really got stuck in but need a little more time in the gym. 50kg gear sets just didn't happen for them. Lol.

  9. Should be an interesting day tomorrow, I'm on the interview panel for my replacement. Well the apprentice I will train to take my role in about 5 years. Really impressed that 3 young ladies have made it to face to face stage too. Very few female mechanics in the truck world.

that's pretty cool company to let you on the panel spanner after all you will be working closely with the winning candidate :)

      QRC

My largest independent recovery company has three ladies who work on the recovery  trucks, to be honest two of them are better than the blokes when comes to any challenging recovery jobs.....

Well it was an interesting day. Very shocked that 4 candidates didn't even bother to turn up. Their loss. Those who did turn up were very impressive. Very close call so 2 have been invited for a practical assessment, I've got a feeling both will be offered a place. I am very happy to train either of them as they appear to have a good attitude to the job.

  10. So after an early finish due to be on an interview panel today I got a bit more done to the Merc. First job was loosing the nasty black screws. I had painted these but they were too soft to use. Air trunking and air kit fitted, again I had to wait for the paint to harden on the screws. Really pleased how it all still lines up after all those coats of paint. Started to build the mirrors but I'm not sure I like them, thought the naff bent wires were covered but they aren't Offered one up and I'm not happy. Looks like it's shopping time.
  11. So with time pressing I made the most of a bit a free booth time at work and got the cab sprayed but more importantly hardened off. Spent this evening assembling some bits. Door handles and side spoilers fitted. Also glued on the lower cab panels, not a bad match for 2 parts painted separately and with rattle cans. Screen and grill fitted. Grill will have to come out again to fit the dash and the two black screws for the screen will be replaced shortly. secured to the chassis for now and roof is just placed on. Not the best picture but space is limited at the moment, bumper refitted for safe keeping. seats nearly finished, pleased with how they are turning out.
  12. I chose to fill all the cab recesses in and flush the sun roof when I built my grand hauler. Also lost the bump for the old radio aerial.
  13. Got a bit more done over the last few days. Dash painted and stickers applied. Tamiya don't make it any easier to cut and apply the decals, they are so tight together on the sheet. Also made a start on the seats, few more coats needed on the orange then the main colour can go on. Low bar fitted and bumper test fitted to chassis. Low roof fitted too. ? Well just popped on to check colour match. Main cab has had its first 2 coats of colour too. It will have to sit safely up there until the the weather clears up. I have a dead line to complete it now as we have just had an offer accepted on another house so time and money or going to be stretched a little further over summer.
  14. Day time running lights and front fogs on a 1:1 Scania. Outer of the two is usually DRL but depends on spec.
  15. First decent spell of weather came just as I got a few days off so lots of time has been spent painting. A lot of the parts area 5 or 6 coat process somite fairly time consuming especially since I paint both sides of all the parts. Assembly has begun on some of the painted parts. steps and treads built up, used a new paint for the treads and it gives a slightly textured finish which I like. started to build up the bumper, the day time runners were a PITA to glue in without making a mess. Head light trims added and grill section complete with its new chrome stickers. light bar fitted. Steps glued on and the wife's latest project photo bombing. Sun visor all glued up. That's all the progress for now, need the cab roof to cure a few days before I build that up and still need to paint the main body of the cab.
  16. Bit more done on the Actros today. Lots of time consuming tidying of chrome parts and cleaning parts from the spru. Front bumper all built and on, wings and cab extension all your together so will be test fitted with tape then painted before being glued. Decided on how it's all going to be painted so next step is pull it to bits and prep it all up.
  17. Had a couple of spare hours over the last couple of days so I decided to get a bit more done on the Actros. painted tie rods refitted and rear suspension finished off hercules hobby shafts fitted, battery tray had to be cut out to make it clear properly 5th wheel fitted and catwalk test fitted after painting, I need to paint the linkage now I've test fitted it all and adjusted as needed. Roof test fitted along with some of the air kit. All fitted fairly well with only minor adjustments needed Really like the spots but they are a pain to glue the lenses in and again Tamiya insist on having them on the spru in such a way they bit you trim off is visible. Spent over an hour cleaning them up and touching up the chrome.
  18. Cardboard box. My spaniels love them. Yes they get torn to shreds but they are free, safe and easy to clean up.
  19. In a nut shell no they don't all fit. Some bits do, lots don't. Some can be made to fit. Lesu make excellent parts but be sure they say for Tamiya because they make their own specific chassis and suspension which uses different size bolts and threads. Extra speed is a decent Chinese supply that makes parts that fit, GPM parts fit well too from experience. Give me an idea of what your looking for and I will try to give you a few options for suppliers.
  20. Looks good, if you enjoy building it then how long it takes is irrelevant. I shudder to think how much is invested in the shelf above my head holding my 4 trucks.
  21. If you run on carpet or want to turn the wheels while stationary then you need about 10kg servo from experience. I use 13kg turnigy servos at the moment and ditch the servo saver using a cheap aluminium horn instead. The Carson radio is ok but there are better out there. As Mond said dxi6 are good or flysky fsi6 for a more budget friendly version. The Tamiya mfu is a pain in my opinion, its a faff to set up. Loads of you tube videos on how to set them up with both radios I mentioned though. Don't worry about hurting it though, too much current draw and it shuts down to protect itself. That is another draw back, if later on you want more lights etc you are very limited by it.
  22. If your wallet isn't as fat try asiatees and rcmart but you will have to wait a week or so for your parts. Don't buy the Hercules hobby parts unless you are prepared for some modding as not all are direct fit. I use the extra speed stuff off rcmart on most of my builds, fraction of the cost of UK sourced parts and good quality. Lesu make so very nice stuff but it can be a little pricey.
  23. Welcome to the forum. I've built euro and American trucks, the track rod is only switched euro to American due to servo location. Best mod is an upgraded axle to reduce slop as the standard one is poor in that respect. There are loads of steering mods but I've never felt the need to chase massive lock, if you have a 6x4 truck it will naturally push on no matter how much lock you have. If you don't intend to take it to tight lay outs then I would spend your time and money on personalising your truck. There are a few of my build threads on here, not sure how many still have working pictures after a hosting issue.
  24. Thanks buddy, just waiting for some warm weather or free time at work to crack on with some painting. I'm in no rush with it though, I would sooner it be how I want than rush and hate it.
