  1. Haven't posted in a while, but have to warn everyone: i just fell for a scam, beware.

I've ordered an expensive dress for my wife, but was gobsmacked to discover this after unpacking.

I'd never thought i'd fall for a scam like this, i don't even know how they got me. Can't send it back either, i've already opened the box and accidentally painted a few parts.

Let that be a lesson to all of you, learn from my mistake.

Nah, for a truck drifter i have a different idea.

      5clPEQp.png

Probably gonna confuse the living daylight out of a few people, but who doesn't love a race truck drifting in reverse (doesn't fit the right way around lol).

  2. Drifty people. Im after some Gold MST 501 Wheels, but cant find them anywhere, any ideas?

Usual suspects are Asbo RC, Drift Manji, RCKitout.

Though i'd probably look elsewhere to be honest, depending on what you want to do. If we're talking actual drifting, see if you can't live with Tetsujin Dasy or something - so far, every single one of my MST wheels was out of round. Isn't too bad on a street car, but on a drifter where the rear axle goes like 3000rpm at times, it's super noticeable.

  3. Do any of you find that replies from retailers become a little slow as soon as there is a problem? Been having some issues with an rc i purchased last week, and it seems prior to purchasing it all emails were replied to within an hour or so. Now there’s an issue emails are being replied to every day or two, is it just my luck or are people really not bothered about customer service anymore?

Never been bad with modelsport, just not as fast as with others (in terms of replies).

I've stopped a while ago, modelsport is consistently more expensive than wheelspin (both items as well as shipping) - and while it's not hundreds of pounds, it does add up.

Can't really complain, but i do generally deal with more "specialised shops" apart from Wheelspin. As in, RC shops that are mostly specialising in drift RCs, as well as (since recently) clevelandmodels for Tamiya trucks.

I called clevelandmodels recently because i thought that there were bearings missing from the bearing kit (didn't notice that the manual stated that two of the bushings can't be replaced with bearings, so the two bearings i thought were missing weren't supposed to be put in) - called them, and the guy on the phone recalled the actual manual of the truck and pointed out to me that it'll say to not replace the bushings with bearings in a few steps.

There are really competent shops out there, once you go a little off the trodden path.

That all said: generally it's just better to call the shop, rather than emailing. I have yet to call a shop that couldn't immediately answer my question on the phone.

      @Gaz!

I was going for the prepainted pearl green one, but couldn't get it anywhere, no stock to be had - same for the pearl blue prepainted.

So in the end, it's just the "normal" kit with bearing set, GT Power 60A Sound/Vibration and Carson Poison 80t motor - nothing particularly special, but first truck and first Tamiya, didn't want to go completely ham. In terms of colour, it's going to be this:

      BasePearlzBlueGrape-62_1080x.jpg?v=16922

called "Blue Grape" by Kustom Canz - basically an automotive pearl blue. Depending on how it comes out, i got 2k clear here too lol.

Never really painted in this scope before, but so far, so good (ignore wires, was just connecting the tail lights to see if i kinked a wire):

      aaW0pH7.png

      a6QC7pI.png

Though did go bit light on the silver coat there, should've done one extra. No orange peel etc though, which i'm well chuffed about.

Also bought a new radio just for this thing lol.

  7. What do I do ? Sold all my rc stuff to a guy on Facebook he gave me a deposit and said he was going to collect it once it was packed up so I packed it all up and thought that was that but the guy has never shown up and no longer answers any pm’s.  Can’t return the deposit as it was cash and other than the guys Facebook account I have no other details.

    1. m4inbrain

      m4inbrain

      How long ago was that?

I'd personally keep his money aside and wait maybe 2-3 weeks, if he doesn't come back to you i'd start advertising the RC stuff again. I don't know if you can tell whether or not he's still posting in forums/facebook, if he's quiet he might have had an accident or something.

Usually people don't just give money to people for "stuff" and then don't collect/don't expect the money back.

Bit awkward, but yeah.. I'd try to be reasonable, hold the stuff and money for a while, then eventually sell the RC stuff somewhere else while keeping his money for a bit longer in case he comes and wants it back.

The timeframes are up to you.

  8. Gonna try and have a little break from RC for a bit I think. I keep spending a fortune and not actually using stuff I have haha. Not selling any thing, just gonna limit my forum presence etc

    1. m4inbrain

      m4inbrain

I very much get where you're coming from.

Best suggestion personally, change of tapestry, getting outside of the "MSUK bubble". Helped me a lot, my RCs had more use in the last 3 months that they had in the two years prior (as well as getting new ones, including boats). Much more fun doing things as a group.

  9. Didn't think that through it turns out, charging 2x 9500mah at the same time is a bit of a struggle considering you can only pull 13A out of the socket.

Guess i'll be listening to the charger fans for a while today.

    1. m4inbrain

      m4inbrain

Actually i do, but not that one. Guess i should've drank my coffee first, seeing 6.5Ax2 immediately took me to the socket limit lol.

      m4inbrain

Correct. And do you know why that is? Because people acted like ronin douchebags, ruining the hobby for everyone.

Guess what's going to happen if enough people with sub-250g drones get caught breaking the law.

And no, you don't have to resort to illegal means to fly your drone, i know that for a fact. 👍

  14. I’ve just spent about 1 and a half hours looking at 1/10 RC car shells of different brands and really fancy making a couple for display on the shelf is there anyway in the UK that sell display chassis can only find ones from the USA and the postage is pretty much the same price as the item itself 🙄

and before anyone says it yes I selected UK only on eBay with no results 🤣

    1. m4inbrain

      If it's any help.

      https://www.asborc.com/products/src-display-chassis-rc-drift-scale-asbo-rc?_pos=1&_sid=40d701045&_ss=r

Yeah, drift car display chassis, but i don't see why that wouldn't work for any other road car.

Other than that.. Probably best/cheapest option would be https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3729128 if you have a printer.

edit: this one is probably a good choice too.

https://www.amainhobbies.com/killerbody-1-10-touring-car-display-chassis-190-195-200mm-klr-48118/p1367880 - yeah will take a few days to arrive from the US, but it costs $24 (£19.50ish) all in (incl. delivery and taxes).

  15. Struggling to get my Mrs (who probably loves uses and bashing the RCs more than me!) to let me sell my bashers to buy more 90s shelf queen Tamiya touring cars 😞

    1. m4inbrain

      m4inbrain

Yeah, was a bit confused about the two speed too. Specs do read well, but that one i can't wrap my head around. Maybe to get faster from the kitchen table to the hall? You can't really take them on an actual trail, i just don't really get that part.

They do look cool mind, and i'm sure i'll be seeing one soon at the RC club (got a mini-crawler track there). Curious.

  16. I know it’s been asked before but any recommendations for an electric screwdriver for RCs? 1/10 scale to 1/5 please. Dewalt 10v?

    1. m4inbrain

      m4inbrain

I see, that does sound interesting. Though i'm not sure about not being able to finely adjust torque via trigger, i think that depends on the trigger itself (whether or not it's soft etc).

And yeah.. last turn always by hand.

That gyroscopic thing does sound cool mind, gotta see if they have something with that mechanism at our hardware store. Though, not as cool as i thought it'd be when i heard "spinny thing" (Gyroscope). 😄

Well.. I'm with your missus there though. Shelf queens are  great, but gotta keep bashers especially if that's the part of RCing that she loves.

7.2v is absolutely sufficient for RC work.

Intrigued though, what's the gyroscopic part? As in, what does it actually do?

Was gonna say, if it's 3d printed, just get the STL somewhere and print it yourself (or local if you don't have a printer).

      This one?

edit: nah, that's for a Jeep.

As it sits, it's cheaper to get it here:

      https://wheelspinmodels.co.uk/i/343570/

than importing it. Cheapest i could find that particular one from the US would be $51.47 USD, that's all in with shipping and taxes. Around £40ish.

      Which US shop?

And no. Things do not get through very often. Absolute nonsense. Out of my last at least 20 orders from abroad, i got stung 20 times. Be it US, EU or China.

edit: tell a lie, a single order made it through, my Castle MMX8s combo. And that's because the shipping got rerouted through the Netherlands at the beginning of Brexit when nothing was streamlined and forwarded through DHL.

Yeah i agree, companies that charge VAT at checkout (Amain as the prime example, since they have nasty cheap shipping too) are much more convenient. Especially since some shops even rip you off, charging VAT on checkout - but not for the HMRC, but their local tax office, effectively making you pay VAT twice.

On the other hand, drifted.nl for example doesn't charge VAT, and reduces the prices in your cart by 20% (NL VAT) before checkout.

Things rarely slip through nowadays though. 😞

I don't have any of those RCs, but my Kraton ran 50k/100k/30k f/c/r. Some people run 200k in the centre.

Since you have a decent selection there, just go from there - there really isn't a must-have selection because you tune to your liking. Some people like it tighter, others less so.

      Yes and no.

You'll not pay import duty, but you will pay VAT. And with that, you will also pay a handling fee of £12 to royal mail.

      MYw72zi.png

So, basically, around £38+£12 is what you're going to pay. Unless VAT is charged at the checkout (like Amain does, for example) - then no further fees will be levied (if below £135 combined, which then incurs import duty).
