I'll throw my hat into that ring..

I'm not into the whole crawler scene but if i may cast an opinion...

    Where to start...

The whole ratio is out, with that shell it just reminds me of the cheap Chinese toy grade crawlers you see on a supermarket shelf...im almost speechless when i look at it, even if it is capable, aesthetically this is an eyesore.

    Who manufactures this for maverick??

Doesn't quite add up, did Hpi actually design this themselves??

I'm sure more effort would have gone into the shell/body design (going off previous Hpi models)

if they did indeed design this rig, including shell, they should be ashamed of themselves..How can you look at that and be proud to have created it.

Some may slate me for that opinion, but as a consumer..

This effort from maverick would not tempt me to buy this crawler in the slightest

    Can i just ask..

Bar the alloy links it now wears, and the now blue instead of silver and blue shell and obviously the different packaging, lol....

What's different on this to the original??

Didn't the original come with waterproof elecs, 9kg steering servo, 2.4ghz etc etc??

The updated original came with wp electrics, and all versions under the Hpi umbrella had 2.4ghz radio gear from memory.

I think the new shell is fugly as sin, but, and I don't do crawlers, the scout always seemed to be a cheap way into the scene and was with a few tweaks quite usable.  I don't know who designed them, the Strada's we're not a HPI design, but it looks like the entire Maverick brand has been spun if from HPI following Ripmax's acquisition.  Who owns it now I don't know at this point.

You could always stick a Pro-line shell and different wheels & tyres on it. :D

    My old Scout.

    Can't fault you there dude.

This single fact is the only saving grace of models such as this, the more people enjoying the hobby, the stronger it becomes as a whole.

I just can't see past the shell!!!!

It's so frustrating that Hpi didn't opt for a better design of shell, i understand that r+d costs, but the dividends would be reaped down the line in terms of sales revenue.

Seems their recent woes may have prompted them to need a cost effective way of raising cash quickly, to plug gaps...opting to outsource everything, effectively turning Hpi into a retailer.

No problems with the diversifying etc etc, just wish they'd done their own body :crybaby:

Please send this pic to hpi, explaining how they've shot themselves in the foot.

The cost for hpi to bulk buy a shell like this would be next to nothing

The Scout used to be the cheapest way to get a pile of crawler bits but the FTX Outback and ECX Barrage etc now offer rail chassis and more attractive shells.  I'm not sure how they managed to repaint the Scout shell and make it worse!

At least all the old AX10 / Scout mods still apply to this version (as it's the same) so new owner will have plenty to keep them busy.  I also wonder what they changes in the diffs which was an old model weak point.

Still ripmax, seeing as ripmax are owned by futaba i guess the brands secure for now, giving how large of a company futaba corp is

Just ordered one yesterday and should be here tomorrow. Maybe I will be able to provide the info you guys need on what has been updated. I’m kind of new to RC although I did have a few cheap nitro cars many many years ago. I have been reading around the forums about the Scout and all seems positive. I see there are many upgrades that can be made to it but for a beginner what these upgrades that are talked about lack are links to the bits that need ordered and maybe some step-by-step pictures and/or written instructions to accompany the pictures. I really want to put these upgrades into practice on my new Scout and the above would be really helpful to me. I found the odd YouTube video showing how to do some things but then those lacked links to the bits you needed to order. Various forums briefly detailed how to do some upgrades but also lacked links to parts and pictures to help follow what needed to be done.  What is out there is helpful but maybe geared more towards those already in the RC world and not really for beginners like me.

upgrades I would like to do are:

    wheel weights

4 wheel steering (not sure of all that I need and where to order in UK)

axial diff lockers (if still needed in new model)

    increase wheelbase

replace body (as you all agree it’s fugly)

reposition battery and electrics for better C.O.G

overdrive or underdrive (not sure which is best or where to get bits)

Ive read about other changes/upgrades that can be made mainly involving axial parts but once again not sure where to source the parts and how to do the upgrades.

all help welcome. I expect a massive flood of information, no pressure.

How has your Scout build gone so far. I just got one a couple weeks ago. Love it and looking for upgrades. 3s lipo specifically first.

What mods if any have you done. I am looking to lower the stance a little with smaller shocks for better COG. Just installed the 3s lipo.

Hi, I have done basic mods like moving the battery to the front supported by the front links tied it up with velcro straps.

Add some weight to front and rear wheels.

Change shock oil to 20-25 cwt

Remove front and rear bumpers. Cut with a dremel the plastic parts where those bumpers get secured to.

You can google maverick scout basic mods and you will find a thread with great info about that.

    Bye
