I've got one more picture of the Polo, kind of an action shot. (Colours a bit weird on the car as my mates played with the shot to try and cut out some of the fluorescent lighting effect).

When I had the car MOT'd in August the tester didn't even bat an eye lid about the tyres. I haven't had any issue with grip or with them losing pressure and I've taken some roundabouts very "enthusiastically". I don't tend to push on too much in the wet though as light car with wide tyres (regardless of stretch) can make things a bit hairy. I've been followed by and overtaken by Police cars (its only a 1.05l) and never had any issues and I work opposite the Police station. It's one of those very grey areas in modifying. Some people love it, others hate it, but labelling someone potentially a mass murderer because of having stretched tyres seems a little harsh.

Oh, and if drifters fitted stretched tyres to reduce grip surely they'd be better off running on space savers? They fit stretched tyres so that they can run wider wheels whilst keeping the tyre out of the way of the wing so it doesn't wear the tyre on the bodywork and because it gives more predictable handling characteristics because they don't have a nasty floppy tyre wall doing weird stuff! :D
