nr73 Posted January 4, 2018 Share Posted January 4, 2018 Hi all, a question from the bench tonight. Decided to strip the gearbox on this here slash before I inflict brushless on it. Looks mostly ok but the top shaft (indicated) has a fair bit of wiggle. The bearing seats fine but the shaft has maybe 3mm of play at the other side where the spur bolts in place. Bearing recess doesn't seem oval or distorted in any way so the finger is pointing towards wear on the shaft itself. Got another shaft coming so that coupled with new bearings should sort the issue. Gearbox and the RC generally needed bearings anyway so it's all worthwhile and it will be better able to handle brushless, perhaps even 3s. I actually bought and fitted a new shaft so I do have a spare. That pin is usually broken as a result of tightening the slipper too much. On my last slash I did just that and replaced the pin with a piece of drill bit steel which was fine, the original pin being hollow.
