I think you need to check measurements you are saying the distance betwen screws is 31mm your vernier is saying 29mm. The one in my car is 27mm and this is the backplate I am using https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/11011-Electric-Roto-Starter-Backplate-12mm-Gear-E-Start-4-Hole-/361120083734 It is easy enough to change the one way bearing to a 12mm. But just to throw a spanner in the works the one I am not using the holes are 30mm. Check out your vernier some a very inaccurate. Hope that helps.
