Hsp monster truck gear help

Nikonite

Recommended Posts

Hi,  I am a totally new nitro owner and just  bought two hsp 1/8 monster trucks. The seller advertised one as working and one for spares. After a two hour drive I got home and realised the "working" one has a stripped gear. My problem is I don't know what it's called to get a replacement. It's the big  gear that connects to the gear that is attached to the clutch part on the engine.  Can anyone help with what to search eBay for? I think I may have bought a couple of lemons :( thanks

Find Blacksmiths on Ebay they carry a full range of HSP spares.

I'm having trouble as well. The ones I have looked at have 2 speed gear boxes, yours looks like a single speed judging by the thickness of the box. Do you know which model it is?

Yes I know but there are a few variants. I'm looking at all the manuals for hsp atm.

I've got 62015 for the clutch bell & 62008 for the spur gear at present.

Looks way bigger than a 48DP pitch to me in the photo I'm afraid.

If you count the spur teeth on the top half I count about 20 which tells me that it will be around 40 ish give or take a couple :good: No way it has 64 on it.

62008: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/62008-Gear-43T-43-Teeth-RC-Parts-1-8-HSP-Tornado-/361447485632?hash=item5427f2f0c0:g:ce4AAOSwHQ9Wap1L

62015: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/62015-Clutch-Bell-Gear-16T-HSP-Parts-1-8-Model-Buggy-Car-Truck-/321520670207?hash=item4adc2015ff:g:FFUAAOSwDk5Tu3HV

@Nikonite Whip em off, put them on the desk & count the teeth on both. Be a better chance of finding the right one then bud

I may be wrong but I could 43, I have no idea what model it is sorry but it's the same as this one:

Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/172202800093

After looking closely at both if them it seems the teeth on the clutches are mashed up too. There is also an aluminum plate holding up the end of the shaft that the clutch is on which has been clearly bodged in an effort to lift the clutch teeth and the wheel teeth closer together. I'm guessing it's going to get expensive now.

I'm pretty lucky I guess as blacksmith is in Crawley where I live :) the 43 tooth one posted above looks spot on,  I think I will also need some servos and clutches and a set of driveshafts from what I can see. I'm a bit concerned that they will just strip again as the Ali Block the shaft sits on looks well bodged on both of them.

I have never worked on HSP`s but that just don`t look right. The clutch bell should not be leaning on an Ali block. It looks to me that something has broken on the engine fixtures and that has been added to try and support it.

Is there anyway you can return them to the seller for a refund??

The only thing I can sugest is you strip it down looking for broken parts then rebuild replacing any thing that looks broken.

Or stick them on Ebay as spares or repair and cur your losses. Sorry can`t be more helpfull.

You have all been very helpful. I'm guessing I need to learn all this stuff so seems like they may be my best chance of doing so. If I can manage to fix one I should know the car inside out. Both engines start and run well so that's something. There were a few broken servos in the box and I have managed to change a broken gear from inside one for a good one and that is now working. I think so far I need:

2 x gears

2 x clutches

1 x aa batteryholder  for the servos

2 x driveshafts

2 of the upright posts that hold the body on

A transmitter as one is broken

An aerial for the one that works as end is snapped

And to find out if that aluminum Block that the engine shaft sits on is right.

I will try and look at the exploded views later on a computer and see as I'm on a phone right now.

Thanks everyone  for taking  the time to help,  I know new people can be a bit annoying and it is appreciated.

That's the one I've been working from :good:

Trying to find a slightly better one as it could be confusing for some with it having the shared parts then the variation parts later on.

So far that's all I can see too.

Nope tried all ideas I had but can`t come up with anything better then that  -_-

I can get the clutches and gears I need from blacksmith tomorrow but I'm worried about throwing another £40 away) not even including the other parts I need)  has anyone ever seen a system like this?  I am worried that these aluminum blocks are a crude attempt at replacing some kind of bearing system I can't see on the plans above. Should the end of the shaft even need supporting?  I'm wondering if it was added to try and lift the clutch gear to better mesh with a worn gear. This really isn't helping my argument to the wife I was better buying two so I had some spares :(

I've had one of these and the alloy block is fitted from the box,The reason I think is because the engine sits on extensions that sit on top of the engine mounts so the block stops the engine moving if/ when you have a bad landing on the engine etc

check your engine mounts and all bolts are tight and check to see if the chassis is straight.

mine also had an alloy support around the spur gear nut which stopped the gearbox moving

There you go I was hoping someone would come along who had owned one.
