Newbie looking to buy nitro

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am new here and wanting to buy a nitro.  I had a buggy many years ago (20+) and am wondering what I should be looking to buy now nowadays.

I am looking to do some on and off road and do like the look of the Traxxas Jato 3.3 but not sure if that would be a good choice.

Could any of you guys give me some advice and recommendations please?

Many thanks.

ive had 2 jatos very good on tarmac but not very capable off road due to the size and only being 2wd

i never found them over-powered though

what i would buy if i were starting out again is this

http://www.modelsport.co.uk/hpi-trophy-4.6v2-truggy-rtr/rc-car-products/381020

its less than a new jato, easier to tune very good on and off road with different tyres and you get a very good hpi warranty

well 400 quid u can have pretty much any nitro so it's jus down to what u fancy from what's suggested. ...which there will b many no doubt...have a good look through ms shop and pick out what u fancy then ask for the pros/cons of each one on hereso u can hopefully make a decision

So, I like the look of the following I think so any help on which is the best would be great.

http://www.modelsport.co.uk/hpi-trophy-4.6v2-truggy-rtr/rc-car-products/381020 (Probably the one that sticks out the most to me)

http://www.modelsport.co.uk/hobao-hyper-st-truggy-rtr/rc-car-products/26445

http://www.modelsport.co.uk/hobao-hyper-st-truggy-pro/rc-car-products/28366 (although not sure I would be great at the painting of this so maybe not a great idea.)

Also I understand it is good to upgrade certain parts on some of these from what I have read.

Out of those you listed I would choose the Inferneo (with Novarossi engine)...or the Hyper ST (you do not have to paint like a pro, we all start somewhere)

The Inferno because I like Kyosho and it has a decent engine.....the Hyper because it is a Hyper :) ......not the HPI for me...at all.

Also bear in mind the Hyper ST Pro will need a radio system and engine/pipe/clutch/etc.

I had a Hyper ST...and it's a very nice truck. The ST Pro, though, IS worth the extra money.

Buy it...get a basic FlySky GT3B radio and a basic RTR spec engine like the .32 / .28 Force motor plus clutch assembly and you should be able to scrape in under the

  • 2 weeks later...

So I finally I ended up getting the hyper st but not the pro.

It arrived today and I started it to do the break in but the revs are really high probably max or near max. I turned the trim down for the throttle but it still way high and not idling at all.

Any ideas on what I should be adjusting because I don't want to start fiddling without a little help.

It is the MacStar.28?

The settings I give for both the Hyper.21 and MacStar.28 are the same...because they are essentially the same...

Slide gap- 1mm

LSN- 0.5mm out from flush

HSN- 3-3.5

It is idling high because the LSN is too lean...richen the LSN...

Important to check the idle gap is right.... I have had more than one new car arrive with the throttle linkage so far out the thing was wide open as soon as the radio was switched on. That's not good if you are starting a new engine for the first time.

It should not be necessary to adjust the throttle trims to get idle

If you want something that's cheap, reliable, and has lot's of parts support. I would recommend a Hobao Hyper 7, cheap, moderate size engine, good basher built like a brick s**t house, and has a fantastic amount of support for parts.
