Firestorm not moving but drive train spins

Help. My firestorm does not move. The motor turns the new spur gear and the drive train ok. The wheels spin fine when the car is not placed on a surface. Once on a road there is not enough power to move the car. Drive train spins though. What do I need to check / replace ?

Any of the above would cause your problem...along with gearbox failure or diff failure.

You need to apply a logical approach to the problem to pin down what's wrong here.

1) Take off the wheels and look at the hexes on the wheels. Are they OK and still heaxagonal!

2) Check the hexes on the end of the axle....are they in good shape.

3) The hexes on the axle are locked in place by a steel pin pushed through the axle. Is that intact and in place.

That covers the wheels. Next the spur gear. There is a spring and nut in the centre. This is the slipper clutch. It's there to absorb shocks in the drive, and to cushion sudden application of power. It should be tight enough ...but not overtight. The manual gives you the correct way to set it. Usually involves fully tightening it..then backing off a bit.

As this is designed to slip under load, the pads inside can wear....so if it still slips after the correct setting up, undo the nut, remove the spring, and open up the slipper assembly. Check the condiution of the pads stuck in there and the metal disc in contact with the pads.

If that's all OK....you will need to look deeper and may have to take the gearbox apart to inspect the diff and internal gears.
