mayzie12
After my first venture down to Rossa last year, I'm now hooked, and fancy a bit more! For this year ive got a couple of projects. I will be continuing with the hyper, but also starting another for the new class this year at rossa for 8th scale on road. Since Rossa in august ive just been using the hyper as a basher and its had plenty abuse, and crashes, as seen below.... Only a light crash into a goalpost at around 70mph The main issue with the car last year was the lack of space on the chassis, so doing a reshuffle this year to try and improve things. Main change is the motor is now going to be above the centre diff. A battery will then sit each side, and a custom top deck will be made for the ESC. Got all of them prototyped in MDF with a laser cutter to check the measurements and as always, I'd cocked up a few of them. Gives you a quick idea of what the layout will be like. For the new class this year i will using the HN SC, the one custom made by bez a few years back. Will be running 8 cells, same as the hyper and also the same ESC, as i can only wish to afford two MGM's! As its sits now. Since the car was based on a truggy chassis there is a bit more space than the hyper. This should allow me to keep everything on the chassis. Planning to have batteries and servo one side, with the motor and ESC the other. As seen in the pic above, there was also another motor mount made for this car as well as a couple of template shock towers. The main purpose of these was just to i could try lots of different shock positions so i could see where the car sat best. Quick layout pic Will be using similar motors in the cars as well. I think ive reached about the limit of a 1717 on 8s, so will be trying a 1515 too, and hope to get my hands a 1512 also to see what the hyper will go like on 6s. Will try my best to keep the thread updated!

mayzie12
Sooooo, managed to get the shock towers i got cut on for a test fit. Apart from forgetting to cut out a bit so they would fit over the diffs (just sliced that bit off) they fitted rather well. Just need a wee tweak so the front upper wishbones fit good, and then I'll remove some of the holes to increase the strength, as they were only there to give me the max amount of possibilities when setting it up. Get some decent ride height, with the GRP's fitted and still plenty scope for raising it when all the weight goes in. The motor mounts for both cars are pretty much sorted after a couple of tweaks so will get the cut again in MDF to make sure before sending them off to get made. Same story with the top deck for the hyper too. Next up is getting the bodyshell so i can incorporate the mounts for the body into the shock towers for the HN. Looking like Kyosho Inferno GT bodies are my best bet but struggling to source one in the UK. If anyone knows where to get one or has an unpainted one please let me know
mayzie12
Had an exciting delivery come the other. Not one, no not two but three bodyshells all from DeltaPlastik. The rather large postage cost from Italy (30 Euro's) forced me to get 3 shells On the left is a twingo rally game shell for a bit of a laugh on a buggy, the right is a McLaren F1 shell for the HN then the other is just a generic buggy shell. For the HN McLaren shell i opted to get the 1.5mm thickness option, was only 6 quid extra and with hindsight i should of got that for the twingo shell too but we live and learn. Also got all the tweaked designs laser cut again, luckily they had some 4mm MDF spare so could just print 2 of each, glue them together and had 8mm which is the thickness ill be getting the stuff printed in. The main change to the shock towers was the addition of body mounts, and a few tweaks here and there just to get good fitment. Pics of the body and the towers on the car.... The body was sitting a bit high for my liking, so i have lowered the mounts by around 10mm which should make it perfect The result of this on the front tower was i lost the top row of holes for the shocks, but considering i'm on the 2nd row already and i only had the weight of the batteries in i don't see it as any loss. Next up for the HN is to check the motor mount. Then its onto the hyper.... stay tuned!

After that its just fitting the body and figuring out a place for the esc and batteries.
mayzie12
Big Update! Got all of the mounts and towers cnc'd by Bez. Excellent quality and considering it was the first things he has done with aluminum , it will only get better! Havent touched the Hyper yet but have had the Hong Nor running in its on road setup and now its 70% complete. Pics.. On the car.. Also got the shell cut and mounted today. just waiting on paint to arrive now After that just needing the lipo tray and esc mounts both of which are being 3d printed by Bez, then the car should be ready to go!
mayzie12
Update: First is a new addition to the projects for this year, a Losi Mini 8. This may not run this year, see how well the other projects get on first. This was bought after much encouragement by Pieman who has said to try and get it to go 100mph. No idea how the hell im going to do it yet but i do know ill get a truggy chassis just to get as much space as possible. Apart from that its anyones guess how this will end up Next up is the 808 class Hong Nor. Got the body painted for this finally. Tried using liquid mask for the first time and sadly it shows. Left it on after cutting for too long and the lines turned out rather rubbish. Im pretty sure its this as the vents i cut to paint grey in the front bumper have stayed really good with no seepage as they were cut 2 minutes before painting. Always learning so ill know for next time. To combat the the bad lines i just covered the thing is stickers On the plus side the body fits nice. Not sure if i'll fit the wing yet or not. I'll take it down with me ready to attach it if i think its needed. Also bez has printed my lipo tray and ESC mounts, just waiting on delivery. After this the car should be ready to run! Finally the hyper. Have given this thing a compete rebuilt. Think this is the cleanest the car has ever been in my ownership. Bought a new chassis for it too as the previous one was 2-5mm out in places which is probably no problem for bashing but i thought if im trying to make it go faster a straight chassis would help. Also got the motor mount fitted today for it too as well as the rod cut and fitted that i will attach the pinions too. For this car and the HN i am simply using a 8mm rod to replace the centre diff and buying a few 8mm bore pinions. Was a bit jammy as i had a couple of driveshafts that fitted so that saved me a bit! Next up is sorting out where the batteries and esc will go. So im hoping to have both of these cars done by the end of July which gives me a month of testing before the event.
