hi all

ive got a fastrax king starter box and also a ansmann twin motor (unsure of model number) starter box. both are currently using 12v batteries.

it is possible to use lipos to power both these starter?

if yes how easy is it to do?

what will be needed?

any info much appreciated

thanks

Very easy to do, either use a 3s or a 4s and just change the connectors on the starter box to suit the lipos

Get a lipo alarm so that the lipos do not fall below 3.0v

very easy just as the man above says

would say 3s to be closest to 12v

cheers

thanks for info!

quick question - you say use a 3s but the starter boxes ive seen online use twin 2s or a 4s.

why would you use a 3s instead of a 4s?

The images youve probably seen online are nicad batteries.

A 3s lipo is closer to 12v at 11.1. However a 4s is 14.8v and will spin the motors quicker. Great for those tight engines.

Becareful though, a 4s could burn out switches and melt wires if power on too long. Also, if using a engine heater, it will be too powerful so 3s is the best all rounder.

the ones ive seen dont mention what type of battery (nicad, nimh, lipos) apart from the smd which says you can use lipos.

3s does sound like the battery to use

i better get some connectors ordered in!

.

uve also got to remember that a 3s lipo is atually 12.6 v fully charged and a 4s is 16.8 v the 3s shouldnt cause any problems but the 4s could be to powerfull fully charged espacially for prolonged runs

Yep, exactly what he said.

Couldn't remember the exact charged voltages, could only remember what the lipo said on it, maybe I was just being lazy haha

The motors in the smd evo can take two 2s lipos the fastrax one might be able to take the same but the ansmann one probably won't just make sure their 5000 mah and they should last a while if your only going to use a 3s lipo you might aswell stick with the 12v battery you already have most twin motor boxes will start most engines with just a lead acid battery with no problems then its all about pre heating them
