  1. Hey man, I thought I recognised your user name, took me a while but I know where from now.

    I used to have a 370Z 😎.

      Ahh nice.
Yep I was on the 350Z/370Z forum for years and was even a Mod for a few of those years.

I always like to keep the same username on every platform/social etc as nice to meet up with old acquaintances/friends online.

Since the Zed I've changed cars like 4 times and am now driving in a Golf R estate ~ weirdly there are a load of other old Zed forum members over on the VWROC forum.
Not sure if you remember any of these guys but; SpursMadDave, Bodyboarders81 and Clarkie48 are all on there.

      Small world.
I guess liking performance cars never leaves us car enthusiasts so bound to cross paths occasionally between different car manufacturers. :good:

Yeah, I recognise those names for sure !!

I was in and around the car scene and track days like yourself quiet a bit back then also, although now I have a T-Roc (it's my company car).

Yeah, I've been using the same user name since 2006 also. I've bumped into a few people from forums over the years, always nice to say hello !!

I suppose hobbies and their forums have formed a big part of my young adult/adult life 😄

Same for me ~ nice being able to talk to like minded people and share in the things/hobbies we have in common. :good:

  2. Cool build man, I enjoyed reading along and getting up to date. I never considered that there might be a drag scene. On another note, I'm from Bridgend, don't live there anymore, moved away in 2006 when I was 22.
  3. Did nothing over the week on the car, however, today I've made good progress. This morning I trimmed up the ESC plate and fitted the MAX6 as best I could with motor wires, starter button and general space being at a premium. I then messed about with the receiver wires and laid it all out a few times, different paths, ways, etc.. until I was happy with the routes and clearances from the drivetrain. Once I was happy, I fixed the receiver in place and fed the antenna into the tube in the tub, tidied it up and out the lid on. Now, I did find the the weather strip on the side entry of the receiver box was annoying and in the end I didn't use it, this car will mainly be run in the dry for now and if and when I do bash it or don something else with it I'll consider re-fitting the weather strip later, Once that was all sorted, I connected a few batteries to make sure wall was responding and going in the right direction before I finally began the final fix. Had trouble with finding somewhere to fit the starter button, so I chose the centre diff housing, as that was the best option currently, it seems to clear the bodyshell by a mile, however, again when I choose it maybe bash this about a bit I may have to re-consider the positioning but honestly its fine. All I have to do now is set the end points, steering rates and other calibration and I'm ready to get it running. This has been such an enjoyable process, putting this together, reading about stuff and taking my time to understand what I'm doing. It was rather intimidating to be honest but for a first time, so far, it's been great. Now to see how it goes.
  4. Hahahaha, I hope not 😄. last thing I want is a wreck on my hands.
  5. I am totally winging this by the way, so if I'm doing anything silly, or of anyone has any advice, it's very welcome 😃.
  6. So, I installed the motor and pinion tonight, once the hardware arrived. I'd only really nipped it all in before just to see what was what and if it all fitted. To get the motor to fit with its mount attached you have to removed the side plastic tray from the chassis but once you've done that it all fits very well. I could only get a 19T pinion, anything larger will be a few weeks away but this will be a cool place to start I think. Gear mesh... IMG_2913.MOV Will tackle the ESC install another evening, no rush........
  7. There is no way I'll be reaching 100mph anytime soon lads, I'm going to take it nice and slow to start with. Besides, I could only get a 17/18/19T pinions but that's cool. Will be fun to see how it develops over time for sure though. Had a quick run out with the boy this evening over the local woods, which @Shergar very kindly pointed out the other week. He had the 3S Granite (50% throttle for the boy mind) and I took out my TRX4 for the first time in a while and really enjoyed it bouncing along , even found a cool little crawler wall...
  8. Yes. Just about, well it's fine you just have to take off the plastic side plate from the chassis to get the mount to slide in nicely.
  9. Just having a beer and poking around with a screwdriver and very much getting to know it. First thing I did which is a bit of a mess on Arrma cars, is the battery tray - those straps suck (in my opinion). I fitted the batteries, had a think about best support, accessibility and then cut the slack. ** just be mindful you still need to be able to get your fingers into the car to get the strips loose.. I'll also need to flush cut the ESC mount as the Max6 is just fouling on the ridge. Perhaps you could squeeze it in, but there's no rush and I'll happily flush that mount, scruff it up and have a much better platform to mount the ESC. ** The ridge in question is to the top of the mount just below right of the cable clip. I have to say, the manual is excellent. It has a great breakdown of basic geometry that shows (through diagrams) what adjusting what dose what. I'll be getting well into this. I've done a bit of driving IRL, so I have a very basic understanding of adjustment and application. Then I've just sat here and fiddled with it, lol. Going to choose a pinion next.
  10. So, I've bought myself a new toy (been thinking about to for a while now). Last weekend I was out with a few of the lads ( @Ant.p & @beyondRC ) and had a quick dash around on a Typhon and liked what I felt in terms of handing and grip. I'd been looking at the TLR for a while and kind of liked what it offered, I'm really enjoying my bashing at the moment but have always really appreciated handling and performance when it comes to driving IRL and having a quick go on a speed car last week I really started to feel the draw to a quick, solid, fast car. I like the Arrma cars and platform, I have a few already, like the way they look and I'm comfortable working on them. Plus, I'm a sucker for a Limited Edition/Colab/etc... I also used a Sanwa MX-6 recently and really noticed the response over the Spektrum radio I was using, so opted for that of RC gear. Steering servo is one I literally have spare after a warranty replacement, I've also been told that this is an updated version of the S652 over the previous ones issued, so I'll give that a go I think. Batteries are just a few 5000, 60C packs that will fit into my current rotation, but I'll try and keep these for the Typhon. Motor and ECS was a choice made after reading the RPM vs Cells pinned post in the electric section. I wanted something I didn't have to rip the guts out of to get shifting and keep at a good temp, this seemed to fit the bill nicely. Still not chosen a Spur gear yet and will be chatting about what will be the best option, 17t & 18t have been suggested from Modlesport but I may end going with something that will perhaps suit the set-up and use case better. This is my first, non-RTR car, so will be an experience in itself putting it all together. Focus will be to set this up for fast road use, get it running, get it nice and set up for road use then start doing a few speed runs with the boys and their cars. I'll still have my Notorious 6S for flopping about with but it'll be great to have this is the boot of the car for when we go sprinting. Well looking forward to it 😁.
  11. Bearings all OK, does the drivetrain seem feel free and loose when not motor driven ??
  12. Welcome to the forum dude. I'm in Essex Also, Chelmsford, if you ever fancy a run out with us, just let us now !!
  13. Had another great run out with @Ant.p this morning in the glorious, Spring-esc sunshine at our little BMX pump track. Only had the N6 with me today but ended up putting four lots of batteries through her and she flew all day. Really starting to enjoy this car now that I'm using it in a more open, more airborne way. No real damage, although I have ripped out another front bumper mount - which was my own fault, getting a pretty bad landing right on the nose. The ground was super soft, so thankfully it seems that the damage is only to the mount and not the chassis. Really chopping through these, think I'll go for something else next time. Was hard to tell at the time due to the bumper being a mess but the chassis still seems to be OK. When the car was dry and rid of most of the chunky dirt, I had a few beers and started doing some chores on it. Couple of cheesy vids from today, (thanks to Ant), it felt good jumping today but sadly the videos make it all look pretty sketchy 😆. I think next time we're going to go visit some woods and maybe grab the Go-Pro 😎.
  14. So I recently had to change the S652 Spektrum servo that was in my Notorious. I'd landed a small jump, the car re-booted and the steering was dead. I'd ordered a replacement unit but happened to mention it to Jason at Redfin and he said that it can be exchanged under warranty. Turns out that very close to where I work is Logic RC who are the distributors for Horizon Hobby. I spoke to a helpful dude down there, that once I'd produced my receipt and handed him my faulty unit, he replaced it with a new one. He went on to explain that Spektrum have made a revision on the S652 servos and this indicated by an orange sticker on the box and on the servo, exactly what has been revised he didn't say. But thought that this revision may be of interest to others. Here's the replacement "revised" unit and sticker.
  15. I have the TRX4 Defender also, in grey, bought it on a bit of a whim but after the first run out over the woods, I understood the enjoyment. I enjoy the change of pace and get serious satisfaction navigating obstacles and watching the suspension and tires flex. Not taken it to a crawler course yet but can already appreciate how much fun that would be. Not sure it's the only way I'd like to enjoy the hobby but it's a wonderful and welcome change of pace. I've also bought metal shackles for it.............😛
  16. Cheers dude, to be honest the best thing was the hex drivers I bought, they made all the little jobs much, much easier. Yeah, let all that lot have their fanny fights, I DGAF. I use whatever brands I like 😎.
  17. Yeah man, she knows, she don't care - she's not using them !!!!! 😁
  18. Yeah massive appreciation for @Ant.p for showing me the ropes and letting me try out his X-Maxx - Incredible machine. This was the first time I'd been out with the cars without having to keep an eye on my four year old, so I had great fun, best time I'd had with the hobby in fact. I broke a turnbuckle on my Notorious, which ended a great time with it sending it far and long and feeling like I had control of the car. I only broke it as I attempted a front flip which was doomed from the off really. I also had a whale of a time with my trusty old Granite BLX, that flys and bounces around wonderfully. Enough items had come come up with my Notorious for me to spend some serious maintenance on it. I picked up some decent drivers, a matt and some replacement parts. Now I will say that all the parts are OEM, not aftermarket. My decision for this is that I just want to get the car up and running again, as fast as possible and as simple as possible. I grabbed a new front bumper assembly, front turnbuckle, rod and cup ends. Ant had also very kindly given me a spare servo that he had that matched the one he had in his Notorious, so I fitted that as mine was a bit off after I changed it last time. As I replaced the snapped turnbuckle I noticed that the driveshaft was rather bent after the impact and needed to be address as it was fouling on the suspension when rotating. I also had to use a lighter to heat the grub screw in the wheel hub but that worked as planned and was nice to overcome. Checking and cleaning over the car further I noticed that I've snapped the wheely bar bracket and now moves about slightly, it can stay like it for now. Managed to bend the driveshaft back enough to get it running again and I'll perhaps look into something stronger in the future. In the end I had to use the concrete post at the bottom of my garden to straighten the driveshaft, just inserted it into an old screw hole and pulled on it. Stronger that I was expecting to be honest. I felt like I achieved a lot today, given it's all still pretty new to me and I've got a heightened respect and understanding of the truck now. Also my wife's yoga blocks are a perfect stand for when I'm working on it. Just need to set the steering servo up and I'm ready to get back out there.
  19. Not been out for a while, combination of holidays, constant rain and stuff has meant nil outdoor hobbie'n. BUT, tomorrow morning I'm off and out - and I'm buzzing for it !!! Everything is charged and the weather looks good. Not taking the Axial (house car) and in the Frastrack bag is a Granite BLX.
  20. Yeah, I don't doubt that for a second, totally agree. I'm still fairly new to the hobby though and the thought of building my own truck from scratch, at this moment in time is rather daunting. Currently the buy it, run it method is the most appealing, as I get further into the hobby the idea of building my own truck is tempting. I've also been listening to everyone saying that it's just a chassis from here, shocks from there and mount from that, which is fair but I don't have a Mojave, or a Talion or a Kraton. So this seems like a kinda cool option. Besides the gun wielding protectors of the flag.
  21. Hey man, might be worth picking up one of these, its a battery checker/tester. Really helpful for quickly checking the capacity level of your batteries and the individual cell voltages of them. Only £10 and really, really useful. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Digital-Battery-Capacity-Voltage-Controller/dp/B07QB6D2Z5/ref=sxin_13_pa_sp_search_thematic_sspa?crid=1KS2PGCRG3WLE&cv_ct_cx=lipo+battery+tester&keywords=lipo+battery+tester&pd_rd_i=B07QB6D2Z5&pd_rd_r=a0ce78ad-3575-47da-a0dd-843e91634d3c&pd_rd_w=TEIVx&pd_rd_wg=P3Ms8&pf_rd_p=7468d229-fb8e-4951-8ff4-df03d0bdb454&pf_rd_r=47XARZJR7CHNS4HRAKDQ&qid=1642425977&sprefix=lipo+battery+tester%2Caps%2C69&sr=1-1-b75715df-0cbd-4312-a971-de5362256967-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEyR1RLVVpZOE1FQ01VJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUExMDQyMzc2MU9MNzFVREJUUDVVUyZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNDMzNTEzMUI1SU43SDVSQUpFSiZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX3NlYXJjaF90aGVtYXRpYyZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=
  22. Hahahah, cheers man. Yeah, there's no two ways about it really, those figures are moody, with the guns - they're atrocious. Perhaps you can blank plate the sides or something. I'm still into it overall though.
  23. I've seen a few shots of the underside of the body where you can see what look like self tapping screws - does anyone know, or seen if the figures can be removed ?? Other than that, this looks really appealing and fun to me.
