  1. I have the same problem whether it's on the ground or off. Maybe I should have added that it's a CR - 01 chassis; not that this should make any difference. I don't need to run it to get the light to flash just turn it on. In the absence of any visible fault, I was wondering if the motor pinion might be too tight on the drive gear? Since this is my first build I've no idea how tightly enmeshed they should be
  2. Hi Folks, After waiting 5 months for my Tamiya Rocksocker to arrive I've finally what might be called the rolling chassis stage Everything's plugged in correctly but every time I try to get the thing to run it stops almost immediately and the red light on the ESC (Tamiya) starts to flash quickly. According to the trouble shooting guide for the ESC it means that "overload protection has been activated" and I should check for damage. I've checked and can find of signs of damage but found none and everything worked OK before I put the wheels on when I checked all the circuits were working. I've gone for four wheel steer but can't see why this should make difference as it's designed for this. Any suggestions on how to fix this would be very welcome. Thanks in anticipation. Gandalf
  3. Yea! My Rocksocker turned up last week πŸ˜€πŸ˜€πŸ˜€ As a total Newb I must say I'm intimidated by the amount of 'stuff' but a calmer look showed that everything's marked so I'm about to start (slowly). I previously bought a full bearing set thanks to advice on this forum. I'm going to build it stock but would welcome advice on whether or not to lube the bearings and what with? thanks in anticipation folks. Gandalf (the grey)
  4. Re-ordered it because the credit card order made in July has timed-out. It's now due on 6th November but I'm kinda loosing enthusiasm: maybe RC's not for me 😒
  5. I see from the review of the Tamiya Rock Socker (which should arrive soon) the following recommendation "If you want 4 wheel steering make sure you order part no 51000 servo saver x1, for rear steering This is a great kit.). My questions are do I need one and why? Thanks in anticipation. Gandalf (the grey)
  6. Is it an old man's eyesight or does the COG move when in flight? I saw something twice in the video that looks like it or it could be sharp editing?
  7. Oh boogger 😒 😒 😒, I've just learned that I've got to wait 10 weeks for my Tamiya RC kit. Apparently there were no rock-crawlers of any kind on the ship that brought supplies to the UK. I was told that the retailer had experienced levels of demand for all products equal to two Christmases thanks to the virus and lockdown and coupled with a three month shut-down in Japan things were scarce across the board. I ordered a Tamiya Rocksocker - can anyone suggest something I might try to buy while I wait? I'm not so interested in racers because my garden, whilst big, isn't suitable as it has too may obstructions. Thanks in anticipation Gandalf (the grey)
  8. Beware of condensation during the winter. My similar garage has an asbestos roof just like this and it drips on the cars when it's freezing outside - it's also darned cold without insulation . By the way, aren't redundant kitchens wonderful: ours went into my workshop a treat. Good luck with your project. Gandalf (the grey)
  9. As a newb (first kit yet to arrive) I found the link to the axle greasing most informative. Could someone please offer some advice on whether there are better greases and other lubes that would suit my Tamiya CR 10 build. I'd also be grateful for best sources of items such as alternative wheels and tyres. Many thanks in anticipation BTW there's a terrific build of a CR 10 chassis on the Tamiya forum (no I've not joined)
  10. As a Newb (my first RC car is still on order - arrives later this month) I'm intrigued by the range of improvements available. So, my friends, Should I buy a better bearing set for this popular chassis and what's wrong with the ones that come with the kit? Thoughts welcome. Gandalf (the grey)
  11. Just what a Newb needs now to go with his first build!
  12. Hi Folks It seems like us lockdown Newbs are in fashion right now and that's me to a T. I've always had an ambition to build an RC model and my wife decided that I should do so to help with my depression (had for years along with a great wife) . I'm pretty ancient (just turned 70) but have reasonable skills as far as diy and models are concerned. I'm also mildly dyslexic and so miss-spelled my name so apologies to anyone who's nom-de-plume I've nicked. Rightly or wrongly I'm kicking off with a Tamiya Rocksocker with a Carson control setup from Wonderland Models (20% off made it doubly attractive) It's too late to return my order so I'd welcome any advice and building what is a common chassis. I would have bought something simpler but my garden, large though it is, isn't suitable for racers and so I decided on a rock crawler. Here we go - travelling hopefully and pleased to join the community. Gandalf (the grey)
