    Fishing Boat Build?

Well, a slightly better painting day today, not perfect but better. I managed to get a coat of paint onto the hull, not sure the waterline is right (tried the pencil approach and failed due to having 2 left hands), but it will do for this first attempt. It needs a bit more finishing, but am happy with the colour (has a change of mind and went sky blue in the end) and it should finish up okay. The 3M vinyl masking tape was joyous to work with and gave a nice crisp line.
  2. Managed to get some paint on the boat hull, nowhere near as good as I hoped and still needs some work but at least it is better than the last attempt. I do like decent 3M masking tape.
  3. Learnt a lot, mainly don't use cheap masking tape that leaves its glue on the hull. When I tried to remove the glue residue I knackered the paint job. Oh well, more paint and 3M masking tape on order.
  4. Messed up the painting of my boat hull, oh well back to square one.........

    Fishing Boat Build?

bit of a disaster today. I masked up the boat for the above waterline colour. Sprayed it and all appeared to go well until I tried to remove the masking tape. Well, the paper part of the tape came off, but it left the glue behind on the hull, tried everything to remove it carefully but nothing worked, so I resorted to ISO Alcohol. Got the glue off but also took off a lot of paint. Oh well, back to square one and this time I'll use decent masking tape (got some 3M vinyl masking tape on the way).
  6. First coat of primer in the boat hull

Bit more progress, all the electrics and linkages have been made up and tested, and the hull has had its first coat of primer, am thinking I may keep the primer as the below the waterline antifoul colour.
  8. I'd definitely get in touch with Corally, I've heard of a couple of cases (online) of people knackering the diffs when running them on the factory grease.
  9. Wow, is that out of your Dementor? Had you filled it with oil or were you running it on the factory grease? I'd email their support people about that, looks like it overheated.
  10. My understanding, and I may well be wrong, was they originally were into 1/12 and 1/10 electric racing vehicles.
  11. Stripped down the Dementor diffs, cleaned out the grease and filled with appropriate diff oil.
  12. They've been around a long time.

Well, the rudder tube and prop shaft tube etc are all fitted and everything greased, so I thought I had better give it a brief test to see if my work has affected the integrity of the hull. So I plonked it in the test tank (bath) this morning and it didn't sink!!!! No water coming in so am ready to start thinking about painting the hull......
  14. Accu delivered my new bolts today, so I have been able to fit my homemade bash bar to the Dementor.

Few more bits built and a test fit of the deck into the hull. I need to work out how to glue the deck into the ABS hull, any advice/suggestions greatly appreciated.
  16. @Guns It was £10.92 plus delivery, I got it from https://www.metals4u.co.uk/ - I ultimately want to go with 7075 aluminium, but this bar was 6082 for the first one as a test. Bar is 50.8mm x 4.8mm x 1000mm
  17. Fabricated a bash bar for my Dementor, then realised I didn't have the right length bolts to fit it but they are now ordered.

Bit more progress, got the wheel house put together.
  19. A 5mm aluminium bar for the bash bar on the Dementor, and here is the world's most uninteresting photo of a metal bar. 🤣
  20. So this arrived yesterday. I have heard all the reports of buckling chassis so it already has 7075 chassis braces and I have a flat bar of aluminium on the way to make a bash bar but I am sooo happy with it. Its mad on 4S and untameable on 6S. Can't wait to get the chassis strengthened and give it a proper run. I did get to try it out at the place I got it from, which happens to be a new RC shop that has just opened (for click and collect and online mail order). They are specialising in bashers and crawler, it is early days, they literally got their website up and running this weekend and the store will open as soon as COVID restrictions allow. If you want to check them out they are at http://www.rcshop.co.uk . I may have to get a bigger workbench.......
  21. I'd heard, and have no personal experience, that WD 40 can trap water in your car rather than dispersing it. Am a big fan of GT 85.
