  1. The Absima is a Hotshot and i have to say definately not up to the same standard to me as a FTX vantage. its got bushings not Bearings in the wheel hubs. So on the subject of the performance being dismall using lipo now with it as the esc has two settings via a pin connector for Lipo or NiMH packs and a pic connector for forward/reverse brake or just F/R. I dont want to go brushless with it as its used by my 10 year old grandson who already managed to break off the front bumper requiring me to buy a new chassis (overpriced OMG compared to FTX stuff btw). Definately recommend FTX over Absima as a personal preference that is. So on the front of better performance with a brushed setup what would you lot recommend puttin into the Abs Hotshot that will run in Lipo's with this cheap hobbywing ESC? Sorry i know its a carnage /Vantage thread so as this is the case my Vantage is run onroad atm and needs a decent set of tyres for said road as of course now its Brushless the stock ones are worn out rather fast
  2. Well I ended up upgrading to brushless and putting the old esc and motor into a kit absima so never ran into either esc or motor burnout so my bad on that bit lol. Granted the dern esc did go on the absima and i bought a cheap one to replace it and cant say the motor is performing like it did wiht lipo on the original esc. The thing is so tame now with the lipo with the replacement esc i put in. its a basic hobbywing esc in it now and wonder if changing the motor wo a better brushed would help with the top end again?
  3. Well the Outlaw has some weak points you will discover as you play around with it, but its still a fun lil RC. The Vantage is also a fine RC and definately a bit more robust then the Outlaw. Question is the versions you bought are they brushed or Brushless? I am myself looking to gettin into a bit of rc racing with a club, but my nearest is Plymouth and a good 45 mins drive from me. Now if they are both the brushed versions firstly i recommend running a 2s lipo 4000 mAh or bigger mAh to get the best you will get out of a brushed RC (i.e more acceleration and duration). Run them like that for a bit to see how you get on before you choose to upgrade to brushless. IMPORTANT! Adjust the ESC accordingly to the instructions with each to be sure you have the cutoff in play as not to over drain the Lipo Battery. Hope this helps and makes sense to you. Have fun find a RC club near you and you will soon learn alot more
  4. Ahhh yes I know all about mid life crisis, not sure I can say I am past mine yet or ever will be lol.
  5. Ahhh the good old Hornet was my first brand new buggy back in the mid 80's. And ChrisT has ya covered on esc and such already. The old contact speed control hehe yup I remember those days.
  6. Welcome to the forum. Also a Gary myself, Crawlers look to be quite challenging by looks of YouTube videos but not tried them yet.
  7. Lots of brushless options about and price range is quite varied. GoolRC is the budget end, but not heard anything to put me off that end as such, but ones of slightly higher prices in say the £69 to £75 mark tend to give you a better Esc along with the motor., according to some that have recommended to me anyway. Welcome to the forum also :).
  8. Welcome to the forum. Not ever tried those sort of RC myself sorry, just a bit of a buggy/truggy 1/10 scale basher and maybe some racing in time in a social less serious way me thinks.
  9. I bought a e680 skyrc charger off modelsport UK cost about £35 I think, useful for charging nimh and lipo packs. Fairly simple to use for a caveman like me. Sorry can't help much with the other subject on parts though. Simple rule of thumb on amp to charge at for a rough 1 hour charge time BTW is based on the mAh of the battery ie 1700 mAh nimh would be 1.7amp. Always use balance charge option with mine. Oh and welcome to the forum
  10. Welcome to the forum. Nice lil list of RC'S.
  11. Welcome back to the RC addiction, and yup brushless can be insanely quick, but oh so much grin and smiling to be had driving them. Expect mine is slow really thinking maybe between 30 and 35 mph (just a guess at its speed, not sure tbh). Anyway welcome to the forum.
  12. Ullo welcome to the forum. I've got a few rc's, got a grandson living with me so trying to get him into these to get him outside along with myself for that matter. I live in Cornwall so closest tracks for me are up to around 20 to 30 miles away, but going to find some spots yet just for running about away from home. Any way if you are after one to run with him buy two of the Bugsta, as for one to run in the 400 to 500 bracket well there is a fair amount to choose from have a look at some online stores like Wheelspin or Modelsportuk. My budget is in the brushless Bugsta range myself. Though I have to admit Traxxus have some appeal, but wow are they more expensive. This is just a hi this is me kinda area so I've gone on a bit much I spose lol.
  13. I simply went gold as I am finding this such a great forum. A chance at winning things is just a bonus 😜. Looking forward to seeing your custom painted body. I am planning on buying a Bugsta later and will get some bodies for that in the future.
  14. I can just imagine how much of a pain it must be when parts don't go together, having a rolling chassis and moving electrics is far less involved. Will give you essentially a second rc you could either sell as a roller or trade, or parhaps kit it out later and have both 👍
  15. Vantage is a small cover as you know it's finding one that will reach the two posts being lower then the towers. Don't know if anyone has tried using other placements perhaps like those from a Carnage to allow different body types?
  16. So how goes the body? Did you manage to salvage the original?
  17. Bugsta will be my next purchase I think. Its a decent cheap to repair option. Pretty much similar to the Carnage but comes with a enclosed style spur n pinion setup unlike the Carnage. Brushless is definitely the way I am planning to go. The radio uses 8 AA batteries. I look forward to owning one. Like the Carnage it has larger wheels and handles curbs better then a buggy.
  18. OK peeps I'm looking for recommendations on tyres for my Vantage as now it's brushless and shifts like lightning the stock tyres are now on the edge of being bald as I have run a few tests drives in my parking area. Obviously I want two sets, one for onroad and a set for offroad/track. Running mydoddy69 brushless 3650 3900kv and oh my its nippy lol. Got an absima esc in it also.
  19. Let's see the battery bar. Sounds interesting. Is it cheaper for you to make then it costs to buy premade?
  20. Oh and Freddy grats on finding the issue with your model, definitely something for me to watch out for, or think about when I change parts. It's something that can easily be missed it seems.
