  1. Agreed. I was going to say just having a couple of extra teeth on the pinion would make a big difference but what do you reckon the chances of it having adjustable gear mesh? If it does, that would be worth a try. If not, I’d say the best bet would be the motor....
  2. Hi there, I’ll start by saying I don’t have a clue what I’m talking about here so take everything I say with a pinch of salt. The simplest way to extra speed is probably gearing. Fit a pinion with more teeth (about £3-£5), to get more speed....assuming the motor/esc/battery is up to the job. A faster motor is another option (maybe £7-£20? Depending what you need). Both of those things could be done without touching your circuit board. Out of curiosity, what car is it? Made by whom and to what scale? What motor is fitted? What kind of battery(ies) are you using? Making a wild guess, I’d say this is a toy grade model and the circuit board you are holding is a combined receiver and electronic speed controller (ESC)? It probably IS possible to alter that to get more speed but I wouldn’t have the first idea where to start. Probably someone on here actually understands electronics and could help though. You could get yourself a new ESC (approx £10-£50+, depending on quality ), and battery (approx £15-£50+, depending what kind), but then of course you’d also need a new receiver/transmitter(approx £25-£hundreds)....but if it IS a toy grade model you’d have to ask yourself if it was worthwhile? If I’m wrong and it’s a vintage Tamiya or Kyosho or something similar, we’ll, that’s a different story. 😀👍 Good luck with it, have fun.
  3. I thought the other day that your Avi looked familiar 😂 Second time today I’ve realised that I follow someone from here on Instagram because they posted pics of really distinctive cars.
  4. @faffy123 Only just put 2+2 together....... follow you on Instagram 👍 Such a distinctive rig, couldn’t help but recognise it here too 😀
  5. I wa thinking exactly the same. Would sort out that annoying dog that chases mine though.
  6. I’ll check out that thread in monster trucks, thanks. Curious about the idea of applying strong chemicals, does it not affect the plastic beneath? Tempted to just try keying it up with a bit of wet and dry but the grille has SO many nooks and crannies ..... Hmmmm?? Thanks folks, 👍
  7. I want to paint the “chrome” bumpers and grille on my sca-1e and could do with some advice. Would a can of regular acrylic do the trick (I’ll be using rattle cans or brushes, don’t have an airbrush), or will it need to be prepped in some way first? I’m hoping you aren’t going to tell me I need to rub it all down or, worse, remove the “chrome” somehow. The bumpers wouldn’t be too bad but the grille would be really fiddly. (Not that I’m in a rush, happy to take my time and get it right). The parts are going to be a fairly light, cream colour, would that require an undercoat to mask the shine of the chrome or would it suffice to just give it several coats? Tempted to just try it with a can of acrylic and see what happens but don’t want to waste £5 or £6 just to watch it peel off again later. So any advice or warnings about potential pitfalls would be most welcome. Thanks in advance, Freddy
  8. I work in a museum. Although it’s been shut for most of this year. Opened for last few weeks, closing again next week. Probably going to be redeployed, maybe collecting swab tests and delivering them to labs.... not sure yet.
  9. Mate of mine gets home from work driving a wagon laughing his head off at the queues he’s caused. Deliberately overtakes other wagons at the bottom of long hills to effectively block the dual carriageway for the duration of the hill. Thinks it’s hilarious. Fair play to all you drivers for keeping the shops full despite the pandemic and delivering my RC parts though. 👏👏👍👍👍
  10. Very wise James, RTR really stands for "Ready to Rebuild". You WILL crash it, stuff WILL break, and that's probably the best time to upgrade .......if you think you need to. The joy of these cars is the parts are SO cheap. Enjoy! 👍
  11. Haha, I do that! "Are you staring at those bloody toy cars again?!" No, (they are hobby grade models), I'm thinking about which upgrades to spend money on next. 🤣
  12. Agreed, but I found getting the mesh right on the stock spur quite hard. (My) Steel spur is a much coarser pitch and is way easier to get the mesh right, and more forgiving if you are slightly out. For a cack handed old giffer like me it's the perfect solution, fit and forget. Over a year now and it's still good as new.
  13. Don't mean to be negative, but if you are going to run a steel pinion, you may well find you get through spur gears quite quickly. Possibly not if you get the gear mesh set up well. I've mentioned it on here before.... a steel spur gear is an excellent upgrade. Easier to get the mesh right, runs quieter and eats small stones for breakfast so no need to worry about grit getting in.
  14. Same. All I can see @Fuzzock is a tiny "broken picture" symbol and a page full of code.
  15. And the moral of this story is..... never try to be funny when you are drunk.
  16. Fed up with your buggy skidding all the time? Fit this easy to install modification and solve all your skidding woes. Find anti-skidding peace of mind with the Neva-Skid-2020-Pro! One size fits all, easy-fit, multi option installation system ( please specify Gaffer tape, superglue or cable tie when placing your order) A bargain at £99.99, buy two for only twice the price! None of the above is true!
  17. That will be very interesting. Look forward to seeing them.
  18. Haha, late night shopping? If you have a smaller pinion than stock, I’d fit it. On stock gearing that’s gonna fly 🤪!! Pure guesswork from me, I’m a brushless noob, but it might help with the cogging a little too. Mines a 4000kv, I dropped a tooth on my pinion, still too fast for me (I’m old) but it seems a little smoother off the mark and a bit more tractable at speed. Sticking to 2s though. 3s must be nuts!
  19. Thanks. 👍 I think it would look better if it were black perhaps, but polythene or whatever it’s made of doesn’t like being painted. I tried on one of the offcuts and it looked awful, but perhaps I just need the right paint? I did look for a different coloured box but it turned out harder than I thought to even find one the right size, let alone get choosy about the colour. Would probably help if any of the edges had been cut straight too 😂
  20. Ladies and Gentlemen I present to you, the sandwich box under tray !, I currently have a random/cheap, heavily cut-down body shell on my Vantage (but watch this space, plans are afoot). Much as with the Carnage body shell it sits too wide so there are big gaps between it and the chassis. I got fed up with all the mud and grit that ends up all over interior so had a go at sorting it out. This is very Heath-Robinson and not at all slick but it worked out ok, if a bit rough and ready. FTX obligingly left four unused bolt holes in the corners of the chassis. Tesco’s had a sandwich box which was approximately the right size. A few minutes measuring and hacking..... Plus the addition of Velcro on the sides of the undertray/inside the shell has made the shell really firmly fixed/ solid. Ps, posted these pics a while back in what did you do to your model today, but thought it might be more useful here (hmm, pics in wrong order but you get the idea)
  21. Haha! Let the grins begin. I resisted this new fangled brushless stuff til recently. Apart from low speed cogging/lack of torque it’s brilliant!(if money was no object I’d get a sensored set up). Although, on my first run out, the extra speed caught me unawares, 😂 Luckily I had enough spares lying about that it only cost £2.85 to fix 👍
  22. Congrats @stimpy (not jealous, much 😂)
