  1. So it depends what you are going to do with it; If you want to bend them, if you want them light, if you can cut threads... Personally I usually get stainless steel or Titanium rod then cut a thread on and then bend them if I want to for that application... I have also used carbon rod for uppers before, drilled the rod end out then glued the rod on - obviously one has to have worked out finished length first.. As you have suggested, sleeved rod or delrin would work... Alternatively buy some pre tapped Ali links from china..
  2. Hey up Andy, I've got quite a few brand new in packet bodies I've amassed... I'll try take some pics later and WhatsApp you... Off the top of my head iirc: 1. Proline Power Wagon body. 2. Team C Suzuki Samurai body. 3. Team C Toyota FJ45 Cab only - build your own bed ( Same as that gorgeous body by MST) 4. Associated Trophy Rat body. Perhaps txt me which ones may be of interest... If of interest of course!...
  3. I agree that the Tamiya connectors are no good for 3S or hungry motors. However, I will argue that adapters can work for decent power having ran adapters successfully for some time in both 3S and 6S trucks. This was only before I could solder better or when lazy! All that said, if you can solder then get it done 👍
  4. Theres a Vanquish "Dealer" in Ireland... But they don't seem to have much stock often.... I don't know why we don't have a UK dealer but you can bet it has something to do with £numbers at it not being worth it for Vanquish else frankly they'd bother right!!?? The new truck will suit a lot of folk and Vanquish make quality parts. A buddy of mine has one built last weekend... He's a comp crawler chap so already talking about taking the axles and selling on! 😂 But honestly a great truck for most folk 👍
  5. It really depends upon what you are trying to achieve. Weight just for the sake of it will make your rig a big fat piggy!.. However... Some folks will weight for the following reasons: 1. for scale realism I have seen folk weight the chassis. This does nothing good for the dynamics and handling of the vehicle but can make it bob / react in a more realistic manner. 2. Weighting front end for climbing ability. As it suggests, a wee bit more weight up front keeps more on the nose on steep climbs... Lots of folks get carried away with weight imo and end up needing some on the rear to balance the front. If you get it right you can normally just run front end weight. 3. Some rigs with poor geometry just won't handle well, sometimes weight can help mask some of this but bottom line sort geo for what your intended use is... And don't forget, adding weight also; cuts run times, wears components and also makes the rig handle like a pig!! Goodluck.
  6. Re the V3 - depends upon what loading you put on your rig tbh. If heavy-ish then a Crawlmaster will never be the solution but if regular / light then will certainly be a great light solution👍. It will also be miles ahead of the others for out runner control and the only one to offer a silenced out runner!.. I certainly plan to run one once they are sorted but will be gutted to lose the noise... Nothing wrong in starting with a cheaper brushless system at all. I still have a couple of 1080s running brushless motors in my Trail finders.... Have had hrs of fun with lower budget gear. Perhaps as many do, couple a 1080 with one of Holmes cheaper Crawlmaster cans and enjoy. Then see how you go with the Capra and if you want to upgrade in the future then do so - or perhaps you'll feel it plenty as is and just enjoy 👍
  7. I may have someone interested in these.... I'll message ya if so... EDIT:Looks like he's got a wraith now in a swap for axles so he's sorted....
  8. Just had to re read this myself to remind me what parts I'd put into the axles! The Capra has been on the bench for aeons as I've been working on more comp inspired gear or just busy with life!! That was until a couple weeks ago when I pulled the axles out to mock up a little project I've been dreaming of for a while......... MUHUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA......... ( Will start a fresh thread shortly)
  9. Hey up Steve, Sure some folk have broken axles, but tbh it's more likely their rig has taken some significant tumbles and they've driven it hard with lots of weight on. I've not broken mine and regularly like a ninja flip out of a bind!... Without getting into metal cases I believe the Traxxas TRX units "seem" to get the best rep for reliability... But then that's probably because there are zillions of them and most trail using them not crawl!.. One could always add a metal case later anyway if you were really concerned though most add them for bling factor! Re motors, you can use a hobby wing unit if you like - I just don't as I'm tending to want lower weight or prefer others ( Perhaps I'm a motor snob! 🙀). And yes, Crawlmaster isn't coming back..... They are working on the V3 with completely different parts now I've heard recently... Which will be much more reliable for us all... So for brushless you would be looking at either the; hobby wing lot, sidewinder micro2 (from US or HK) or Mamba micro X (US & HK again). Or you could go with any of the larger esc units; HW offerings, Mamba X etc... Else go brushed, which traditionally offers better low speed control for crawling anyway. ( Though brushless has bridged the gap in a few instances - but not many). Brushed wise on a budget you can use a HW1080 ESC then pick a Holmes can - which can be purchased from REDWINCHES in the UK at least. I " MAY" be able to let a Crawlmaster Pro and Tekin FXR go possibly (would need to check other rigs) - that is the best motor in the Crawlmaster series and the Tekin is uber light and small (but not cheap!).... Lastly, as an open wheeled rig yes the Capra will give you a good start 👍 For interest, I am currently working on a project with my Capra axles actually but put onto one of my own "LCG" chassis (though this needs a redesign to work properly), I must post my shenanigans on here when I get a mo....
  10. Her voice let that down for me personally....
  11. The New Vanquish looks a good design and no doubt the top quality they are known for... But certainly not exposed wheels... From everything you say.... and everything you listed originally...... and reading between the lines..... You should get a Capra👍 With regards the Revolver, I run 2 Snubnose revolvers - the short ones - and they certainly have enough power. I personally love the tortured ghost sound! One point of note; if you don't run one of the new fangled escs then it will be a wee bit glitchy low down. I run both of mine on older escs and on comp scale crawler type things and It really doesn't affect performance at all. But certainly the new Holmes Crawlmaster esc does control them off startup better and removes the sound (which is what a lot of (WEIRD!) folk desire) - it also fool proofs set up - that said there have been a few cases of these smoking themselves and a V3 is due out . I shall wait and try a V3 later this year once all the details are ironed out and the mad rush over. For reference I run the following Snubnoses: 1. 1800kv on a Mamba Micro X. 2. 1400KV on a Sidewinder Micro 2. Other motors that I love and that would suit the Capra but still be lighter than most (but not as light as a Snubnose revolver): 1. Holmes Puller Pro Stubby - Brushless - I wouldn't go over a 2200kv personally ( I have one of these and they are great all round solid punchy motors) 2. Holmes Magnum Stubby - Brushed - Bloody brilliant these, I wouldn't go below a 16T personally ( Again I have a pair of these on my MOA and they sure are punchy but linear) 3. Holmes Puller Crawl 400 - Brushed - 16T I'd say. ( Ran one of these on the Capra for a brief while - punchy as hell but less linear - more a big power motor with slightly less torque than the others) ( Apologies they are all Holmes! I'm a fan boy and they sure make brilliant motors 😍) And if the budget does not stretch to the above then I can also recommend the Holmes brushed Crawlmaster Pro - again in 16T - ran one on the Capra. This is a very smooth motor but not nearly as punchy as the above ones... I do understand that if you want to run water then go brushless. There are of course plenty other motor combos out there, just they are heavier or I don't have 1st hand experience. I choose all my motors on weight really vs their performance. Plenty of folk have put heavier bigger powered motors in all sorts but honestly it just isn't needed!.. Any other queries let us know... Or even better still.... Post a pic up of your new Capra 👍😂
  12. Looks like you've done a fab job on that!! Who doesn't love a bit of cutting and shutting 👍. Was gonna say, Hyraxs are great on rock but not so on other mixed terrain. I'm sure you have chosen the direction of your deep woods but I would recommend trying the fronts at least in the other direction for a bit more bite... Have fun!!
  13. I guess it depends a bit upon how you want to use the rig and if you enjoy the building more than running... In my opinion a lot of the kits are quite similar in design and quality. If you want something different: - Vanquish products various rigs - the new one looks brilliant. - RC4WD models. These are different to build and you can't beat a hardbody for scale;e realism and detail.. - SSD Trail King kit - then add a hardbody of your choice... As per your final comment re the enduro - yes to both. The overdrive is quite mild but useful for climbing - though more OD gives better climb....
  14. Going back to my main post, you really don't have to fit into any "discipline" at all so long as you are having fun!!.. Re above, both of these will give you out the box decent starter performance in multi disciplines. Personally I'm an Axial fanboy but the element rigs get great reviews too. Other considerations; TRX4 Sport, Axial SCX10.3, then curve ball - SSD Trail King kit. Bottom line they are all good quality and you will have fun with all. Really the differences are: - Portal axle vs regular - Regular bodies vs Capra caged looks - Dig option on Capra and SCX10.3 As to pure comp rigs, I'd say start at the beginning and see what you like 👍 ( And when / if you want more info just ask or have a look around )..
  15. @turok007 To me I see exactly the same especially having come up on 2.2 comp crawlers. However.... The line seems to have been blurred these days and the term "Crawler" more generically used... From my understanding I guess these days: 2.2 Comp crawlers = Comp Crawler Trailing = Trailer Crawling = Trailing but with harder obstacles! To add to all this we have Scale Comp Crawlers & Scale Rock Crawlers!! 😂 The line between some of them can be thin also... Though: Scale Comp Crawler = C1/C2/C3 Sorrca spec rigs usually with winches etc getting over a wide range of technical terrain with obstacles. Scale Rock Crawler = Low CG, no winch, generally run in technical rocky terrain.... Caught up yet?!!?!?😂 Now to add to all of this.... The Comp Crawler scene has also added a "Scale Performance" class! Which is basically the scale lcg rock crawlers run in a competition environment 👍 Keep on RC'ing folks!!!
  16. From the above I would recommend a Capra for both Trail, crawl and a bit of bash. The dig unit can be a bit finicky to set up but does work. Lots of upgrades and plenty available spares should you need them. My passion is rock crawling, don’t do trailing. The Capra is reasonable out the box, if you wanted more you’d be looking at bespoke builds with carbon chassis rails and low centre of gravity , overdrive etc. These then would not trail well... So horses for courses... One other model of consideration would be the Traxxas TRX sport. This is fairly bomb proof, can be made to perform on both disciplines and has plenty of available spares and upgrades... See what takes your fancy, but certainly with woodland you probably want a multi discipline truck 👍
  17. Yeah it is actually slightly overhung. But once you can get all the weight on that front left you just keep walking it ( Obviously not as easy as it looks! But all possible with practice 👍)
  18. Hey up folks!!! Been a long time..... Had run into a couple tuning issues on this one and only driven it locally at home to which it proved it was very capable!... That is until today!... Finally got it out on some ‘Heaven’ high traction funky rock 🤓 In the usual way I had too much fun driving and forgot pics! But here’s a couple: This thing is IN - CREDIBLE!!! Just so so capable 👍 Even my mate Al who hates Sporties fell for this one and will ordering up a kit! 😂😂👍
  19. Made some adjustments last night ready for a day out today :-). Rear end put back to a ‘compromise’ set up and the front links moved to make a bitier front end.... Had a brilliant day out at some excellent rock down Southampton way with my pro mate Al... Had a lorra fun! The rear end was still too active when stood up sadly, I honestly think there’s not a lot more I can do with it now without major alterations. Mostly it’s the relationship Between the upper and lower links on the XR10 axles I think. It’s not bad at all , just could be better... Also, the more you dumb down the rear the less you can ninja jump! So everything’s a trade off! The front was insane! Incredible grip! But actually just a little too much difference between the upper links front to rear which meant my front would cock a leg all to often ( schooled by Al on this!) so I returned it to my previous setting and tbh it ran pretty damn good 👍 This place is heaven, super high traction, crazy shaped rocks, and not too many cavernous holes between them! Sooo many incredible moves and as per usual I had too much fun to get pics!! 😂 Over n’ Out!
  20. Had a Lorra’ fun today!! My mate Al had been on at me about a brilliant spot down Southampton way for ages but I just hadn’t the time..... Until today! About 3/4 mile of rock crawling high traction heaven!! 🥵 XR10 / Bully2 in action, as usual the pics do it no justice and I was having too much fun to remember decent pics!! 😂🙈 Ventru S clinging 👍 Brilliant rock!.. And finally... My mate Al’s Ventru Pro / MOA Again, no justice in the vid! Insanely, I actually managed this move after a few attempts with the sporty ( Ventru S), just had to hang along the rock a little further right before I could pull up... Brilliant day 👍
  21. I've got a bloody brilliant Arrma Granite up for sale which is a bargain and would take anything the kids threw at it compared to any of the cheapo units! but out of your budget I suspect.... Sure you have probably seen it in the classifieds anyway but thought I'd mention it...
  22. hehe, yeah me too. I used to laugh at my mates with RC trucks - kids the lot of them!! Where as my comp beasts are super tech - it's strictly a competition machine right 🤓. Then out of nowhere I found a scale group who comped class1 and class2 so thought I'd give it a try... But rather than go with any of the usual I went with a heavy leaf sprung chassis with a hardbody and set about trying to make it work!! 😂. Aswell as all the lightening, tuning etc I found I actually quite enjoyed making the model and body! Ofcourse I would still never put a figure in there!! But with all the points one could get with the truck and then a decent drive I could actually be perfectly competitive! I will add that our C2 is nothing like the yank videos you see - my trucks would not fend well in those environments!!... But yeah, my passion is with comp stuff 👍
  23. Again hard without it in front of me but I'd say the rear doesn't look awful, the front upper chassis link could do with being lower. Your axles are very different to comp ones but essentially our front upper chassis point wants to be lower than the axle mount point with the upper links... Goodluck!
  24. So, a long old lay up.... Managed a few little test crawls and then another visit to Black Rocks the other month... Was brilliant as always but proper cold that day even though it was meant to be summer! As a result the rock was not very grippy so I ended up driving my Scale LCG rig much more... Last time I had been here I had the Y Town chassis which I love, but this bully2 chassis have better options for rear links and it certainly showed in the success of clearing a few moves I had previously failed at 🤓👍. Previous to this little trip I had finally quickly sprayed up the skins which in my normal way didn’t work out!! But this time instead of my obligatory pink 🙀 I went with black!! Was meant to have all sorts of cool snake silhouettes in but the paint bled so I just wiped the lot , brushed some silver glitter through then sprayed the black... Looks a bit poop but it’ll do!! So currently she sits like this: Still need to mess about with the rear some, and I may need another 10/20g up front but I’ll try get round adding that with tuning first... Whenever I get time ofcourse!!! 🙈 Oh, the rig is now running the Proline Ibex tyres off my sporty for now. That’s with the beadlock carbon faved comp wheels and Crawler Innovations foams 👍
