  1. Finally, the Phoenix power plant has arrived!
  2. Still stuck in limbo waiting on parts to get her finished and running, although my new wheels did arrive today, and are arguably the prettiest set i’ve owned to date! These ultra scale wheels feature scale hardware in the centre and adjustable offset, meaning i can change the offset by changing the hex adapter in the centre, or building them with the barrels reversed. The actual nut holding the wheel to the axle is also hidden by a faux half-shaft cap that threads into the centre too. I can’t mount these yet as I’m awaiting on some dual stage inserts from MS, i also prefer how they look with the deeper dish, but i’m curious to see if that makes the tyre rub due to the higher offset.
  3. Some decent wheels for the Phoenix, and yes these are going to be built with the wider offset for all that deep dish goodness!
  4. Start my new job Monday, doing what i love most - driving vans!

It’s more of a job that i love doing, wage isn’t as good as i was on at Keter, but it gets me off night shifts without too early of a start.

  5. Pulled the body apart again today to add a layer of clear Gorilla tape to the inside to add sone strength and act as sound deadening then added a Lego Boba Fett and Stormtrooper as driver and passenger.
  6. Got the Phoenix moving and had a quick play before pulling it back apart lol
  7. This afternoon was productive, spent a good amount of time temporarily fitting a motor and esc from a mates Reely Freeman and setting up the radio and both servos centred, trimmed and end points set. Then set about having a little play about climbing the sofa and curbs outside, and i’m liking how this truck feels already! IMG_5934.MOV IMG_5931.MOV
  8. More goodies on the way, and i think i’m done with the spending on this one now. But then a rig like this deserves to be lavished on. Was looking at the Boom Racing Pro Build wheels and came across the ‘Spectre’ and instantly ordered a set, and bit the bullet and bought the Incision series 2 light kit, with front/rear lights, plus rock lights and controller.
  9. Ooopsie, might have ‘accidentally’ bought a set of Boom Racing Probuilds….

Accidentally on purpose was it

  10. Picked up the radio and LiPos this afternoon, then set about fitting the steering and overdrive servos on the Phoenix, then pulled the transmission out ready to temporarily fit an rtr brushed setup to get the servos powered up, centred and end points set. All going well, i should have her moving under her own power tomorrow afternoon!

  12. Everything to get the Phoenix running has arrived - batteries, radio and both servos, just waiting on the Fusion now.

I’m getting impatient to run it now, and I’m seriously tempted to order the lower kv Fusion from the UK and have it early next week just to get the thing driving asap, knowing my luck both will arrive on the same day 🤣

Why the fusion, and not the Axe R2?

I understand that the Fusion mounts neater, but the Axe R2 is just more convenient to use (programming via phone on the fly), and has smaller motors (due to no ESC module). More programming options and live telemetry without any requirements (other than a phone) are neat too. I've got both a Fusion (Sherpa 3.4) and an Axe R2 2800kv (TRX4) - my next purchase (likely a JT4) will get another Axe system.

Mainly down to ease of installation, I’d ideally like to run another Revolver again though, full sized one this time and with a Copperhead on 4s

Never had one, heard loads of good about it though. Albeit noisy. Fan of Holmes stuff since my Crawlmaster Pro 13t, still got it in my Trailfinder.

Can't argue about ease of installation, the Fusion is inarguably easier to sort out - but, it's not like you need to do extensive modifications to chassis and body to fit an Axe, either. Just thought i throw that into the ring as an alternative, since arguably it's the better setup, if you take "space" out of the equation.

  13. Parts are starting to arrive to get her finished up and running - charger is here, as well as both steering and overdrive servos, and picking up the LiPos tomorrow, just waiting on the radio and Fusion now.
  14. New tyres have arrived and wasted no time in getting them mounted up!
  15. Cheers for the comments guys, it’s great to be back in the hobby again! Finally decided on electronics and ordered them this evening. I’ve gone for a Savox sw1212sg, good for 46kg on 2s, Hobbywing 2300kv Fusion Pro and program box, and a Flysky GT5 along with an Overlander charger. Itching to drive the thing now, but the hold up will probably be with the Fusion as it’s coming from China.
  16. Spent most of today masking, painting, reassembling and decorating the body, and to say I’m pleased with how it turned out is a slight understatement. So glad i backed the PS61 metallic orange with black instead of white like I’d originally planned. I tried the white on the dash piece, while it worked for that to make it pop more inside the cab, it would have made the rest of the body too bright for what I wanted, which was the darker, almost copper colour as she currently stands.
  17. So after nearly eight years working for Keter UK, I’ve sadly been made redundant with immediate effect.

I had the same thing @Pistonhead before but it took me a while to get another job unfortunately so I went through the severance package I got paying the bills.
Fingers crossed you get another job soon so that the money is a windfall for you.

  18. Cheers, going to strip the body back down and get it washed before work in the evening, so i can crack on with the masking and paint when i get in tomorrow morning. Plans for electronics have changed slightly, and i’m going to use some of my redundancy money for the electronics to get her running early next month.
  19. Finished up the base build and mocked up the body on the Phoenix, all going well, she should be in paint come Wednesday!
  20. Last push today, got the body assembled, mocked up and mounted.
