  1. Hello guys. Ive been lucky enough to obtain a fair few Tamiya RCs in 2023. I think it was over 25, and the only one I used is the BBX…. However I think we all have a list of “grail” RCs we want. Truth be told, Id got to A stage where Id picked off all the obtainable “cheap” ones and all that was left was £300-1000+ ones…… I managed to pick up the Pennzoil R34GTR, and then I decided POTENTIALLY have a little RC Break….. Obviously money isnt unlimited. Ive recently welcomed my beautiful daughter into the world, and unfortunately my girlfriend was made redundant 5 days into her maternity leave! So we are currently a 1 income household. However…. I decided this year to focus more on quality over quantity. So a clear out was the idea, get the money in, and then I was going to wait and see if anything on my grail list popped up…. I also decided to sell a few old Pokemom Games…. They seemed to go for big money….. anyway. Thanks to eBays free listing till April (because theyre obviously scared of the upcoming HMRC declaration)l thingie). I managed to get some cash in the RC kitty and some cash in the bank. In total, I sold 6x RCs, including my NIB RC10CC, as it didnt really fit my plans (I dont race, I dont have an “association” with Associated (no pun intended). I then purchased the TA02SW Supra GT. And then sort of left it….. My list was then basically. An NSX of some description (more on that later). Then. Porsches. Thats it. For me. Theres 4 more Porsches I need/want and I doubt Ill ever get the 30th as its a lot of money: Tamiya Porsche RSR 40th Anniversary #84431 Tamiya Porsche RSR 30th Anniversary #49400 Tamiya Porsche GT2 Racing #47321 Tamiya Porsche 911GT1 #58193 Now the 40th isnt a priority, I have the 45th. I also had a Tamico Edition I stupidly sold cheap. The 30th Anniversary is going to be a grandish, so that may never happen……. That left the 993 GT2…… The 993 is the nicest, prettiest, best 911. It just is. So that was potentially next. I remember buying one of these for cheap as chips from Modelbau back in 2017? Like less than £100 posted…… now they go for a pretty penny….. I was also thinking it needed to be racing decalled as opposed to street…… so the search went on…..
  2. Not really familiar with the brand mind
  3. Gonna do a build on this as I think its quite special in my opinion!
  4. Its the same with 1:1 cars, especially the VAG Group. Theyre all based on the same chassis, with various wheelbases etc
  5. Im at the opposite end haha. When my 7 week year old daughter grows a bit More, she will take over and all this will have to go somewhere (we only have a 2 bed house). We have all of her cot/furniture to go in/be built, so dont know where its all going to go haha. These are the other walls Although some have gone since
  6. Im not gonna say no, but I honestly hand on heart think Id rather buy myself a rarer/older Tamiya for the shelf, than buy this. Im not out, but the UK Price at £759 has put me off.
  7. So its a Sledge ESC/Motor Combo and a Maxx maybe XMaxx Servo, with the TSM radio. I genuinely despite what I said earlier, think at £649, maybe £679 Id have ordered tonight. Ive sold a heck of a lot of stuff lately thanks to eBays free listing offer, so funds arent the issue. Its the justification when a Sledge is cheaper
  8. Nothing major, but I added a second shelf to me “large scale” shelf/bench. I added this space POTENTIALLY for the addition of the new Traxxas Maxx Slash, but Im not too sure now after seeing the UK RRP, regardless I now have more space even if I dont buy the Maxx Slash.
  9. My girlfriend actually hit the nail on the head for me. I showed her the Traxxas Video (which is extremely good IMO) and she said it look like it drives like the old Slash youve had plenty of, and you always preferred driving trucks over the short course because as good as they look, they dont drive as well as truck due to the silly parachuting. Lets say Im out in the terrain that is showm in that video, would this do anything that my XRT, or Sledge, or even my Maxx doesnt? Then on top of that I have an X Maxx. Where does this fit. Before getting into my Tamiya’s, I had pretty much the whole Traxxas catalogue. Ive since sold my E Revo 2.0, Slash 4x4, Rally, UDR, Stampede 4x4, and 3x Revo’s. In terms of bashers I still have an X Maxx, XRT, Sledge, Rustler 4x4 and 2x Maxxs (which this is based on). What does this Maxx Slash do that I cant do with my current depleted stable? Id argue my XRT would still drive and bash better. I could sell a Maxx as we have two, to buy this maybe but Id be lucky to get half the cost of this (as Id sell my least modified one) and is it going to be any better? For me, Trucks are better than short course trucks (but dont look as good I admit). So the Maxx Slash wouldnt get much use. I can justify that with my Tamiya’s, not another £750 basher
  10. Hmmm. More than I wanted to pay considering Id also want a new ESC. Im out. It shouldnt cost more than a Sledge. My XRT does everything this will, and is bigger. Id rather spend £750 on old Tamiya’s
  11. Its considerably cheaper buying from Jennys mainly because theyll sell, lets say wheel hubs as a unit with maybe 6 or 7 parts in one go including bearings or something like this: https://jennysrc.com/collections/sledge-1-8-6s-95076-4/products/fits-sledge-plastic-set-side-guards that will get you a load of parts for minimal outlay, and mainly parts youd forget about. Ive done this before (buying hop ups, then the rest of the parts from Jennys) but only on things like the 2wd Rustler/Stampede. Its obviously possible with the Sledge but its going to cost a fortune regardless of which way you go so I dont think budget is the factor. Depends if you believe you need to be this strong/fast. Its took me years and 200+ RCs to realise the one with all the hop ups the internet says to get isnt necessarily the best RC and you can save a fortune just doing what you need. Nothing is indestructible, regardless of how much you spend. As I say Id find a used Sledge if youre gonna go the ultimate hop up route. For actual use, Id maybe say get whatever the latest RTR Kraton EXB 6S is (I didnt get on with mine but Ill accept its maybe a stronger platform than the Sledge, arguably with better electronics). Use it and upgrade as you go
  12. Was mainly wheels/tyres/bodyshells/motors/lipo’s/ninhs. The batteries went in a special skip at a job I was on
  13. I did think this, as I have two highly hopped up Maxxs with 6S and 8S Systems, all the alloy parts etc But I dont know what arms they Slash will use (as I dont want to lose the CVDs) and I’d imagine the body/body mounting/wheels/tyres are a significant part of the cost. Im on the fence, but I didnt buy a single Traxxas in 2023…… soooo
  14. Thats the price Ive got in my head. Hmmm
  15. You could buy the parts from Jennys RC to save some money as they split kits. Its possible, it will cost you a fortune as theres so many things you dont realise you need (bearings, diffs, screws, shock internals etc. I do get the idea though as Im forver buying a Traxxas model and selling all the electrics before I even run it. Thing is you do make a bit of money back doing it that way so its not too bad. I personally think for 99% of people M2C stuff is over priced and not necessary, but its a fun, albeit expensive project. Id possibly suggest buying a used Sledge (or Kraton) RTR, sell the electrics and use it, then upgrade as you go
  16. I thought it came with the BEC?
  17. If it starts with a £6 in the UK I'll be suprised. Pleasantly.
  18. Traxxas usualy arent like that. March 8th Im hearing in the US.
  19. Depends what they are. Im genuinely not sentimental. If its not of use, and of no or little value, I bin it. Id rather throw something away and buy it again in the rare instance I do need it. As soon as parts become an issue, I sell or throw away ( hence why I dont have any Savage's anymore). I try to keep my fleet (non Tamiya) fresh. It keeps the value. For example, in your situation, the no brand RC monster truck you found in your loft, for me, it wouldnt be worth the effort, and it'd be in the bin. Others would try and salvage it, but I PERSONALLY wouldnt bother. I probably binned what originally retailed @ over a £1000 worth of RC stuff few day ago because I dont like to hoard. Im aware im a big part of the problem of the throwaway culture we have today.
  20. My first question, why do you feel the need to have a metal spur gear?
  21. The X Maxx is modular, so most things are in two parts. They fit together like lego and then screw together, making them strong and light. So not a crack. You can see it better here https://www.modelsport.co.uk/product/traxxas-x-maxx-front-shock-tower-left-and-right-halves-396020
  22. I did think Traxxas were involved somewhere but wasnt sure it was HPI they sued. Turned it was over the waterproof RX box https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?3067295-Boycott-Traxxas
  23. Wasn't it massive financial difficulty, resulting in them being brought out several times, thus making them very unstable? Uncertainty with who was distributing their parts made customers lose confidence in them. I can't imagine the cloning of the Baja helped them. HPI genuinely were my favourite RC Manufacturer. I started with their touring cars, going from a Tamiya TL-01 to a HPI RS4 Sport was like going forward 20 years. I then had every Pro 1-4. I jumped at the original Savage .21 when it came out, despite not being into nitro, and Ive lost count how many Savage Flux's I've owned. But unfortunately, that company has now gone. It doesnt exist. The one you see today is a shell of them unfortuantely.
