I thought that when I bought the wife the kyosho mp777 truggy.....which carried a similar RRP....

After me, the wife and three kids abused it for over a year without a breakage on 6s i realised why it cost so much for what appears to be a regular bland rc....

So much marketing in one article it hurts my eyes

Admittedly, design in the 1/8 buggy world seems to have hit a brick wall - they all look the same and I guess there's only so much you can do with the design of the layout. The money gets spent on fine tuning the suspension geometry and refining the chassis - nothing that's obvious to the eyes of us mere mortals.

I'm starting to think you've got to be a semi-pro racer to start noticing the fine differences between all these buggies - the kinda guy who's good enough to be sponsored and prob gets this kinda stuff for free anyway.

Hard to justify the RRP's for the rest of us!

Was just about to say the very same thing, Nothing here looks to be new, Or hasn't been done before.

Maybe 1mm here or 1mm there makes a difference to a pro racer, But I can't see they make all there money from them, The club racer must make up a fare bit, And I can't see that will make any difference to them.

Like you say, They have hit a brick wall, And are running out of ideas, Without turning to internal shocks, Engines laid flat to the chassis, Belt drive, Things way out there like that, The best they have is 1mm here and 1mm there, Thing is, A new buggy is isn't that big a news story anymore. No matter how much you jazz up the press release.

I get 'em cheap off ebay, used...paid 60 quid for the wife's truggy if i remember

I'm moving in the same direction now. I love 1/8 race spec buggies but the latest brushless race-spec rollers are in the region of £700 and they don't even come with wheels, tyres etc.

Wait for someone else to rag 'em silly then pick up the dregs is my new approach :)

tbh even for a basic basher which it clearly isnt for it is got some great new features and they do get improved which can make a big difference.

I have an XB808 and i can say that this new model would be a great upgrade, if i wanted a new buggy.

The diffs are bigger which is great for more powerful electric setups. them moving the guards back 4mm so the tyres dont rub on the guard makes a massive difference, if you are running badlands and your tyre rub onm the chassis it can totally mess your rotation in the air up. even a noob would be annoyed by that.

Also i havent broken a single part on my buggy since owning it, so you might pay £1000 to get it running in the first place, but if you never manage to break it then its easily as cheap to run as a mid range £500 rtr that you spent £300 on upgrades and £200 on spares when stuff breaks.

Its the same as buying a tekno mt410 vs an outcast. the tekno looks really bad value on the first purchase cost, but i bet within a year or 2 the arrma will have cost the same or more to run.

Also most of the stuff that only changes it by a mm or two is optional, so you dont really have to buy it. That is clearly aimed at serious racers.

I don't think anyone has much of a problem with the price,  That seems to be the going rate for a pro buggy, And racers aren't really like bashers, They only have one or two cars, So spending a grand on two rolling chassis I don't see as a problem.

I just think it would be nice to see something new, Different, If you look through that press release, It's a bit 'So what',

I also have a bit of a problem that all the manufactures sell these upgraded kits and sell them on the bases of a 1 degree here, A one degree there, and the perfect chassis balance all working in harmony, Then they make a big song and dance about giving you the 'Pivot Ball Suspension' and 'C-Hub suspension' in the kit that you can change on the fly, You could also say that your two examples are basic evolution of possible design faults.

I've gone off a bit here, But putting it simple, I think that some of us would like to see a revolution, And not just evolution.

Don't wait for the manufacturers to pick up that baton....

You could always make something yourself?

    At face value.....

I'm saying....most manufacturers don't like "thinking outside the box"..... Revolution is great...when It works out....but revolution is also a risk....the risk coming from it being a flop with no sales.....that coupled with the high cost of R+D and marketing...could potentially ruin a company that already operates on razor thin profit margins.....

That being said....it would be relatively easy for say traxxas or kyosho to let two R+D employees go nuts and design something ....produce a limited run to see how it sells.....may still end up being an expensive mistake though after marketing and manufacturing cost alone.....

I'm not so sure given the instability of the global financial market that a company would willingly make that decision in the near future....

So the simple solution for the short, or long, term..... is to make something yourself that's different......

After all..... You can't poke the manufacturers with a stick about it too much.....if you haven't made one yourself...?

I agree it would be nice the see a major change, but as fly in my soup said, I don't think the industry has enough capital and investment going into it for established companies to take risk making something radically new.

Even if you look at 1/1 cars they have hardly progressed since 1990's they are are just minor updates here and there. You need someone like a tesla to come in and shake it up a bit. I think arrma have shaken things up a bit the past couple of years, but maybe not quite to the degree you would like design wise.

The other issue is thing like pushrod suspension which could have moved forward a lot in the past few years is held back by traxxas patients. I would love to see a few manufacturers try it on buggies, truggies and Mt's and it would make great competition that would drive them all to make better and better designs for it.

I think tekno could come up with a good pushrod design as they are excellent at packaging and their plastic materials are far superior to traxxas. It would also lower the centre of gravity of a buggy as well.

Couldn't agreed more their jumper....as if its not hard enough for companies to innovate as it is....they've got to worry about being sued by other rc companies now that troll patents to stifle competition.... Sigh....

They best thing I've seen recently regarding suspension was a "coil off shock" setup at the rear on a drifter.... Where the spring sits separate (next to) the absorber as opposed to both combined (coil over)

This is actually An old 1:1 design though used on Mercedes etcetc
