We are introducing a new way to show our appreciation to helpful members on MSUK-Forum, with Star Members. Every month, myself and the forum staff will be picking out one member that we feel has put in some of their time to benefit the community. As a thankful gesture, we will be awarding the member a £10 Modelsport voucher. We hope this can grow to make more than just one person a star member each month (as picking just 1 person out of such a good bunch has already proven tricky!), the more our community puts in, the more we can give back. What we are looking for in a Star Member this month: News posts. Something we always struggle with is good frequent news! Welcoming and helping new members. The onboarding process is important to keeping these new members happy and active. To kick it off we've already discussed several members and we want to congratulate and thank @TWINSET as our first Star Member. Who we all know as being excellent with news and Tamiya knowledge! During COVID, some people have suffered while others have flourished. MSUK-Forum was fortunate to be the latter, with a spring of life during the lockdowns, where people turned to their hobbies and computers. We are stronger than ever and I felt that as a community, thanks to our active visitors and Gold Members, we can give a little back. Mental health has been a real challenge, COVID has pressed down on those harder with existing conditions and also for those who've never had any issues before, for the first time some people have mentally struggled with the isolation, sudden losses of loved ones and financial burdens. We've donated £100 on behalf of MSUK-Forum to Models for Heroes. Models for Heroes (M4H) is the first charitable organisation in the UK to support the use of model making hobbies within former and current Armed Forces and Emergency Service Personnel in the United Kingdom. This is an excellent small, transparent charity who will soon return to organising meetups for those needing support to build model kits together. It's a great cause and fitting for our community being hobby enthusiasts ourselves! We recently arranged to get them stickers printed so they can start getting the name out there a bit more and raising money for charities. It's a new group and we will hopefully see some big things from them. The Little Car Company are developing the Wild One MAX for release in 2022 under licence from Tamiya. Rather than being 1/10th scale, the Wild One MAX will be an impressive 8/10th scale, and you will not need an R/C controller, because it is big enough to drive yourself! Developed in partnership with the company behind the Bugatti Baby II and Aston Martin DB5 Junior – The Little Car Company – the Wild One MAX will be a rear-wheel drive, off road electric buggy. At approximately 3.5m long (137.8”),1.8m (70.8”) wide and weighing around 250kg (551lbs), the Wild One MAX will take up a bit more space than the R/C kits of the past. But just like the original, you get the opportunity to assemble these models at home. Specifications The Wild One MAX will have a spaceframe chassis with four-wheel coil-over suspension and rear wheel drive. It gets the power to the ground through 15” off-road tyres on lightweight wheels. The buggy’s braking system includes hydraulic Brembo disc brakes on each corner, backed up by regenerative braking to maximise range. When taking to the driving seat, customers will find an adjustable composite seat with a three-point seatbelt, digital gauges and a racing steering wheel. This allows drivers between 160cm (5’ 3”) and 195cm (6’ 5”) to get comfortable. There are even multiple driving modes including Novice, Eco & Race, which offer different top speeds, throttle mappings and power outputs according to driver skill level. Performance The base Wild One Max comes with a top speed of 48 km/h / 30 mph and a peak power output of 4kW (5.5 bhp). It has a single PowerPack onboard with a capacity of 2kWh and a range of up to 40km (25 miles), depending on terrain and driving style. However, if you would like to go faster or further, several of the modular PowerPacks can be added to increase the performance and range. Hop Ups & Upgrades As any big kid Tamiya fan knows, half the fun following the build of your Tamiya R/C car was delving into Tamiya’s upgrade catalogue to choose your Hop-Ups. The Wild One MAX will be no exception. 30 mph not fast enough? There is a Hop-Up for that. Yearning for a four-point racing harness? The Little Car Company can help. High performance brakes and suspension? They’ve got that covered too. One more thing…. On top of the individual Hop-Ups for the Wild One MAX, there will also be complete ‘Packs’, which can be added to your buggy. For example, a Tarmac Pack will provide owners with road-biased tyres and mudguards. And taking it one stage further, for those who wish to roam both off and, on the roads, there will be three Road Legal Packs so that the adventure can continue way beyond the workshop. These packs add the components required to build the vehicle to be compliant with L6e or L7e Quadricycle legislation in Europe, or Neighbourhood Electric Vehicle legislation in the USA. Parts will include brake lights, turn signals, reflectors and rear-view mirrors so you have everything to make your vehicle fully road legal. While it is still early days in the development process, we will be trying to bring back many of the classic elements of the Tamiya build, which fans enjoyed most. Nottingham is to be home to the country's first drone racing arena – which is expecting to draw thousands of fans into the city. Racers wearing video googles will fly their machines around a 25,000 sq ft circuit that is expected to open next month. iSeries is set to run its events from the new Iremonger Road base, which is just opposite the Notts County Football Club ground. UKDS Racing – which is the name of the arena – is hoping to attract the next generation of drone racers and will be teaching children and adults how to make and fly drones. The site, which has seen £100,000 worth of investment, will have a beginners zone as well as the main race arena for professional pilots. It will hold competitions and league tables, attracting drone pilots from across the UK. Up to 750 people will be able to watch the races with the site employing eight staff to begin with. Inside FPV, one of the leading resources for Drones and Drone Racing said the arena opening next month will be the first indoor permanent drone race track in the UK and Europe. The organisation states that there is an outdoor drone racing track located at Popham airfield in Hampshire. SOURCE
