C3PO Posted May 3, 2009 Share Posted May 3, 2009 Hi All, What's the best way to "skim" the motor myself, without buying an expensive lathe or the hassle of going to a model shop? Took my SST out today for the first time with the Tamiya Subaru bodyshell and had massive amounts of fun. There was a temporary hitch in proceedings when the pinion decided to run off the motor, but soon found it and refitted it. One thing though, the motor got VERY hot. mad-wolfie Posted May 3, 2009 Share Posted May 3, 2009 for basic skimming.. a brillo pad or a pan scourer is usually enough that cleans the burned on crud off, however if it's mis-shaped i usually give it to a mate who works for an engineering firm & he whacks it on the lathe for the price of a pint. As for cooling, it it's getting hot i'd take a look at the gearing to see if that is the initial problem... then of course heatsinks & fans are easy to come by.
