Popular Post Kpowell911
Hey guys, Ive been weeding out the collection lately and was lucky enough to get around £1400 from sales. Ideally didnt want to invest much (if any) back into RC as I still have a decent collection that I barely use. However one RC Ive always wanted was a UDR. Its shocking Ive not had one, but theyre a bit niche, hard to work on, and expensive (almost £900 new). I started to “look” at used ones. Emphasis on look. Not buy. I was intrigued but not committed. There is a fair few about all for circa £600 mark. I added a few to my watch list and forgot about them. I was looking at a roller for around the £450 mark and a few others. One of the ones I added was described as in pretty poor condition, it was dirty but. It had a Max 6 ESC which I was going to end up buying. It was up for £599 plus postage. The thing with a Traxxas, you can spruce then up on a budget thanks to Jennys RC….. Few days later I get an offer. Considerably cheaper than the original asking price. Like the same price as the rollers Id seen. So I accepted and this arrived today. It has: Hobbywing Max 6 ESC New Traxxas 2200kv Motor Savox 1230 Servo On top of that it has: RPM Rear Trailing Arms RPM Front Skid Plate Hot Racing Front Drive Shafts Aluminium Discs and Calipers None of that was mentioned so its a bonus Its originally the red one, but has a new Fox Shell. The Red ones not in too bad condition to be honest. Its described as having worn steering so Ill investigate. It all works so will get it cleaned up and a parts list sorted
Popular Post Kpowell911
The Hobbywing Max 6 feauting dirt Ive since took the shell off and cleaned best I can. Ive put some Corrosion X on some of the rusty screws, and truth be told its in far better condition than described. It was 3 wheel drive however, but I just needed to rebuilt the Hot Racing front drive shaft. Steering seems off but I think its TSM kicking in admitedly Ive only gone round my garden. Some of my lipos fit and it already has XT90s. This is honestly a great entry to the UDR. Plug and play and with some time and effort if it doesnt work out Ill easily get my money back.

Daddyroo
Looks like a really good find you got there! I really like these and a bit like you I keep thinking why haven't I had one yet - might have to start adding a couple to my watch list

Hopefully ill use it as in intended and drive it how its meant

And cornering hard when on the power only results in a walk to go turn it over. Treat it how its meant to be used and it will last and be loads of fun! 👍
Kpowell911
Broke the rear driveshaft 😅 is this a known weak point? Theyre good fun once you get the hang of it. I need to take it to some more suitable terrain however
Kpowell911
Added an MIP driveshaft. These are supposed to be the best option, but they look so damn boring: This was the problem The solution. Not that you can tell. I do like how MIP stuff still comes with spares/threadlock/grease

lorrylemming
I'd use something like either of these, but with any CVD you want the absolute minimum lubricant you can get away with. https://www.makeitbuildit.co.uk/schumacher-dry-fluid-extreme-gear-lube-10ml-df4260269080731-84264?gclid=Cj0KCQjwzLCVBhD3ARIsAPKYTcTcKEAKDIJ5k4YS5KOjmnCympBr_vKJxwTySt2G8MnwTI5cbP2IhTQaAmLWEALw_wcB https://rcraceprep.co.uk/all-products/ols/products/cvd-lubricant

rccar4life
these are so fun. you can drive fast thru terrain over old roots and some stones , shocks are amazing in these ones, they swallow everything where other rigs starts bouncing and tumble womble, these are stable and fun
Kpowell911
Im waiting for a new servo saver to give my full verdict on this. They look so cool though!
rccar4life
you will love it, i know LOL UDR is the best looking 1/7 shortcourse. Scale looks is amazing in these. FOX Body are the best looking body , i love the colors , absolute best livery. Some cheap universal Led bars rear and front would be nice
Kpowell911
So took this out again with the MIP rear driveshaft. First proper run. Some thoughts: This is hard to drive, anything slightly erratic on grass and youre on the roof. 6S is too much IMO, its impossible to drive fast. This is a £900 truck, if this was my only RC, performance wise, Id be incredibly annoyed I spent that much on one for this performance. I think this vehicle is location specific. If you live in the Nevada Desert, this would be an incredible RC, everywhere else? im not so sure. Maybe 4S is better? Traxxas even say dont bash it so what do you do? However, I didnt pay £900, and its not my only RC so lets give its a chance. It looks stunning and feels special. All of my RCs are on display on shelves. Every non RC person goes straight to this one and pushes the body down to see the realistic suspension flex. I decided to take it to somewhere smaller but more suitable terrain. Dust…. Its much more fun here. The steering is terrible at the moment (sloppy servo saver) so in a small area, took a few 20 point turns to get unstuck (although power drift works better). Sometimes youre better off steering by flooring it and spinning the rear. And Traxxas said no jumps but you know what…. As long as youre smooth (not like the above) she jumps very well. It looks so scale and cool in the air. Im starting to get this now, but you really do need this to be a luxury RC to compliment the rest of your RCs, combined with somewhere to run. Obviously I took it too far: and broke an A arm but that didnt stop me running, only noticed at the end
rccar4life
These are impossible drive at streets and hard-packed-terrain 🙂 You need loose surface They are made to drive at loose sand 🙂 Sand beatches, gravel pits , deserts . Autumn on leafes WOW and SNOW, in snow WOW these are awsome in snow i will tell Great winter cars frost or snow Have you change the old oils in this rig ? Shocks and diffs, important have fresh oils in shocks Right after it has rain they are pretty fun at asphalt and in muddy conditions too I have the Mojave EXB, and i love it, its insane how Tough this is. I have drive like insane with 8s and now 6s max6 combo full send. Have not broke ANYTHING in it LOL. it takes sick Mental Bashing like nothing check this video please You dont need those m2c nuts, all you need is new nuts with rough surface to the hard plastic wheels that Mojave got The only downside with Mojave EXB is that it looks not near as good like the UDR. Mojave have that TOY car looks sadly, The UDR is best real looking without Questions, real Scale Mojaves needs also extra grease in most bearings. Atleast diff bearings, wheelhub bearings, then they are fine Edited June 28, 2022 by rccar4life
Kpowell911
I hated my Kraton EXB and said Id never buy another Arrma sooo
rccar4life
Hahaha. yeah i did hate my too because Diff issues. Now i have find way to have them last , it took alot time and many try´´s I was very close give up. Mojave EXB with smal wheels are great out of box, never single Diff issue. Same with the typhoons, and 1/7 speedrunners. I had many Traxxas cars that have totally fail. Just because one or two fails totally, you cant get up the other ones that are great. One thing is 100% sure. Mojave EXB Is alot better car than UDR. Alot more Durable and easy to fix with . To be honest, Mojave EXB is in the top 3 list of worlds most durable cars . If you can live with the TOY Car looks, then this is one must have rig in the collection. UDR is nice in right surface conditions, Scale looks are awsome too. Best looking 1/7 Short course. Just Go 4s and bigger pinion, drive at loose sand surface and enjoy alot , i know you will This is your best rig in snow high speed snow and ice/frost drifting , after rain, muddy speeding, sand beaches, gravelpits , sand socker fields , autumn on fallen leafs, 🙂
Kpowell911
So decided to have a look at the steering. This truck isnt fun to work on….. However. Take lots of screws out: Alot of those screws were rounded, so Ive ordered a screw set: Stock plastic steering rods were bent somehow: Which obviously hasnt helped handling. More wrenching: I ended up using the stock servo saver bellcrank, with some washers on it. Seemed more heavy duty than the cheap one….. lesson learnt. As you can see an arm is broken. After much back and forth (alot of people suggest going alloy on these) I just went with a stock one from Modelsport. Next up is a shock rebuild I think…..
Kpowell911
I needed to nick the Tx and Rx for another truck so decided to add this to my Noble NB4 and change the front arm whilst I was at it: Had a bit of a mare binding the RX as it needed updating but all done leaving me this:

No problems with any of our Traxxas's personally. The UDR is amazing, love how it's made and it's far from toy grade. Any reliability issues with any RC usually comes down to how it's been used. Especially when people seem to think doing jumps, which scale up to the equivalent of a flat landing from a height of about 100 feet, isn't going to break things. Kevin Talbot is mainly to blame for stupid **** like that. Edited August 9, 2022 by JonnyUK
