Losi 8ight T brushless conversion Log

Thought id start a thread for my current build a losi 8ight - brushless conversion, I have never done a brushless conversion before so i can get help and ideas along the way. So  It started out i managed to pick a car that i have wanted for so long for such a bargain price, my Losi 8ight 2.0 truggy , I managed to get it on Facebook market place for £80 + £20 Postage. BARGAIN.Brought it as a previous nitro track race car. it had a alpha pro plus z852 engine with a Ryan Luts pipe(currently selling these) I whipped that straight out and cleaned some of the parts up and stuck it onto the new chassis that he also threw in, SO my plans are so far to order the losi conversion kit, but im currently stuck with what combo to go for either the MAX8 or the Arrma BLX 185? what are peoples opinions with each of these, i think i may use just on 4s? maybe 6s? i have also been told to upgrade to a metal spur gear. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Bye for now!

Has that already got EU towers as well?

If so you got a banging deal.

In fact you got an absolutely banging deal regardless!

Hobbywing or Castle for the combo, absolutely no contest.

Hobbywing 2200kv Max8 combo on 4s will be sweet, I think from memory I used to run a 16t pinion on that set up.

It wasn't built for crazy top speeds, but hitting a jump at 40 and doing a triple backflip on power alone is good enough for me.

I ran the stock ones with 60wt oil and purple springs.

Hobbywing or Castle, if you like the Hobbywing, go for it, I've run both systems in many different vehicles.

Yeah i got the standard shocks, but the tops have ovaled so they rattle really bad. going to upgrade i think. Its mainly going to be for bashing so want them quite solid.

Hobbywing it is :D

To be honest I'd look into some more Losi shocks, maybe the V3's?

You might find a breaker on eBay or something, I used to know a really good seller of Losi things on eBay, his prices were always a good 10-20% below anyone else, can't remember his shop now though, I will see if I can find it.

So today my conversion kit came, thanks to @Oh How Original for the link to that aswell as all the help.

The kit was pretty much straight forward, was really nice as it covered all the holes in the bottom of the chassis. Only part i struggled with was replacing the pinion in the centre drive shaft but i had a quick googled and managed to find a little tutorial on another thread.

So if anyone else is struggling here is a step by step to changing it.

So for now, we will trust in Losi that I need to change the nitro spur gear (48) for the electric one (45).  To do this it's pretty simple

1. Take the centre diff you removed and identify 4 screws holding on the spur

2. Take those off and remove the spur (being careful not to spill diff oil everywere

3. Carefully remove the diff gear on the inside of the spur to uncover a pin.  Use something flat to help leverage this off if you need to

4. Now take the pin out and remove the shim if there is one.

5. Slide out the drive cup and remove the blue gasket and orange rubber seal.  You can reuse these if like mine its pretty new

6. Take the new spur gear and note that it comes in two parts.  A centre piece that slips into the spur gear

7. Put the gaskets in as they came out and slide the drive cup back through.  Add the shim and and pop the pin back through to hold it together

8. Put the diff gear back over the pin and carefully place it back on and put the 4 screws in.  It might make sense to add a tiny drop of loctite for this.

So thats it. Thanks to member - @evilhomer for his guide back in 2015!

Now time to wait for my Motor and ESC,

then just need to pick up some packs and a charger

Picks to follow.
