Deafty
... I'm now leaning torwards the bd-280 brush for it's adjustability (air and paint) costs 27 euro, compressor is still likely the as tanked model. total is currently at 110 euro. what about extras, like a mini filter on the brush? cleaning pots, stands and quick release thingy's,.? anything missing,.? Tamiyacowboy
quick snap hoses dont worry, water/oil filter : my compy had the filter fitted beside the regulator outlet. so it came from the tank into regulator , through filter and out to the gun via hose. no need for a mini/micro filter its just more weight to the brush. the main filter will do its job. a cleaning pot or two, and a stand is nice, if not you can knock up a stand and cradle yourself
NITO
Createx have a very good site, here's the application guide, pretty good advice on there, I'm talking ABS shells as opposed to polycarbonate, they have a decent colour range to with auto air and wicked, also specifies the required sealer coat etc for use with different colours on the site; http://www.createxcolors.com/PDFs/hard_surface_guide.pdf For polycarbonate, is it possible to put the Tamiya polycarbonate brush-on paint straight into an airbrush, for non fancy paint jobs? Deafty
imo any paint can be sprayed,. just need the right consistency so will likely need to be thinned and possibly strained. Specialist airb paints may have a better pigment quality at a thinner consistency. I don't see airbrushing any different than from larger applications. nick-b
Some really good info in here guys, thanks a lot. Do you all make your own templates or can they be bought online? I want to try doing a tear effect with skulls/faces ghosted in it so just a simple template to start with would be cool. Cheers all.
Sharkfat78
For the people who are already airbrushing.... What paint would you recommend for a noob for inside lexan/polycarbonate shells? I have a shell (Carisma) that was painted on the outside, so I'd like to know what the best paint would be for that. Do you thin acrylic paints with water? fatboyneil
The most used paints in the uk are faskolor and createx both water based paints so can be thinned with water but I don't recommend doing that as it slows drying time some use window cleaning product to thin their paint some use alcohol mixed with water Google thinning the paint you choose personally your best buying that brands thinner for best results. Now acrylic paint for outside a shell like the small tamiya pots require their own thinner water just doesn't mix well enough to spray personally I would avoid painting the outside of shells but if you do just use any of the two water based ones and used a good clear top coat/lacquer difference between them two is top coat is just a clear protective layer where as lacquer is used mainly to bring out the shine of metallic paints then a top coat added after that the options are many it's up to what you want it to look like
Sharkfat78
Awesome, thanks The Carisma shells come from the factory painted on the outside for some reason, but at least I know what to use on it. Cheers
Deafty
So who's bought what? Sadly I had my funds diverted, but stil planning on AS186 compressor.
Sharkfat78
I've got all the stuff to get me started, except paint and thinner.

Sharkfat78
I had a quick look on ebay and the main paints that popped up were Createx and Vallejo. Not sure if they're suitable for lexan though
Tamiyacowboy
I had a quick look on ebay and the main paints that popped up were Createx and Vallejo. Not sure if they're suitable for lexan though yeah they do an RC colors selection : http://www.acrylicosvallejo.com/en_US/premium-rc-color/family/20 called the premium rc color, has a good few colors ,metalics, candys etc etc you may need to thin these with a thinner so check im not to sure they are waterbased. some vallego paints are some are not. Tamiya PC or X* ( polycarb paint) is made to be used on body shells and hard case shells. you need to grab some tamiya X-20A thinners to thin the tamiya paints. NITO
Apparently createx can be used on lexan, but they are water based so will need a finishing/backing coat of some description.
Sharkfat78
I just want to find some that are easy to get and easy to use. Aren't Createx and Faskolor the same type of paint? So would both need some form of laquer?
