Metal sealed bearings are a definite no go for running in these conditions. :/ Rear diff was crunching/grinding because of the fact it was full of sand/sludge which had passed through the poorly sealed bearings. Also explains why the car was so tail happy as the rear end was dragging so badly off throttle. I've just cleaned all front out, proper sandy! All seems good though. Pin type tyres ie mini pins, are what most run unless it's wet I've got a monster truck so tyres aren't pins, how strict are they on tyres ? I'm not sure what their rules are regarding practice sessions.
