Possible damper issues?

Ok so, i have just stripped my suspension to clean the car, and have noticed the dampers dont re-extend them selves!

They return about 3/4 of the way then stop, obviously the springs will push them the rest of the way but surely they should return on there own?

there are no obvious leaks however.

Many thanks in advance,

Without a spring...the damper won;t do much.

What you have is a piston with holes in it. The oil will flow through the holes allowing hte piston to move....but slowing it down. Any pressure you create pushing the suspension shaft in will slowly dissipate as the oil flows.

~That's what is supposed to happen!

The spring provides the rebound...the damper stops it turning into a pogo-stick
