richarddenton1982
After reading about people using server PSUs to run their chargers. I've been thinking, I have a Car Battery jump starter. It discharges at 350A when connected to a battery and the ignition is turned. Would this work to power my battery charger? It's always in my car so it would be good if it did! goldman
Hi dont see why it would not work, only thing that may be a bit ify,is if it could put a few too many amps into charger. Goldman
richarddenton1982
So does the battery push the voltage or the charger pull it?
goldman
Hi if the charger wanted say 5amp,then the supply would be able to, give it,then if it wanted 20 amps, your supply would give it,as you said,it can give out 350 amps,so that could maybe result in a a few interesting events,it would work, but it may be a bit risky, because of the high amperage it can provide, thats how i see it myself. Washout
The battery will push as 'hard' as the charger will take it. Put an inline fuse on the -ve lead to protect the charger. Sent from my A500 using Tapatalk HD
richarddenton1982
Thats all I was wondering, if supply of current or demand for current dictates what the actual current level is. When im after 8A max its probably too risky to try. Edited January 28, 2013 by richarddenton1982
goldman
AS said could put fuse in pos feed to charger to protect it,as long as it blows, before it can damage charger, that should be ok. Goldman

As said above the charger will only pull the power it needs. Problem with using these boosters are: 1/ They mainly use your typical Pb or as they're more commonly known Lead
