stretch
So my new battery is one of those with a separate lead, which plugs into the top of the battery. This one: http://www.modelspor...-products/39764 In the car, the battery cover fouls the balance cable when it's plugged into that central socket. Is there any problem with me just not plugging it in to avoid this problem? I'm pretty sure it's only relevant when plugged into the charger - but better safe than sorry, so I thought I'd ask! Yes you can leave it out
DazzaClio
When out with the Firestorm tonight i heard a clicking sound coming from the Firestorm, on further investigation i noticed this: Its solid, has anyone else had this happen before? Thanks.
mrhavana
Looks like the driveshaft pin has moved rather than broken. You should be able to push it back in using a vice or something. A little heat may help and some red threadlock may prevent it sliding back out. Otherwise, replace the dogbone. The pin really shouldn't come out that easily so replacing the dogbone may be your best bet. There are specialist tools for replacing these pins, but they are pricey. http://www.rcdisco.com/part-info.php?partNo=DY106000 Some people find a good quality motorcycle chain breaker does the job. DazzaClio
^ Thanks mate, yeah I know it's moved. Never seen it before and wondered if anyone else has had it happen. I've got a motorcycle chain splitter, or I will just put it on my 10 tonne press lol. Thanks.
bazzabear
The first time I took the firestorm out, I lost drive. On taking the cover off, I found this was because the pinion wheel had slipped down the spline towards the motor, and was no longer contacting the spur wheel. Took it out today (a week later) and the same thing happened. Have done the little grub screw up as tight as I dare this time - but is this something I should expect to happen often? Aside from that problem - pleased to report that despite giving it some punishment, the tyres showed no signs of peeling away from the rims. That type bonder stuff might have the same main ingredient as superglue, but it's like night and day! Since it was empty, even plucked up my courage and went on a little skate park in the local park. I was a bit of a wimp on the big half-tube type jumps (Just gave it enough gas to jump off the top and land flat on the platform) but it was excellent fun! There was a smaller jump there that I was really enjoying barrelling over at speed. Might have removed a few mm of plastic from the top of those fake suspension turrets on the bodyshell.
J450n
Make sure the grub screw is tightening to the flat part of the motor shaft, and file/dremmel the end of the grub screw flat. use blue threadlock to stop it unscrewing.
autobutcher
Ordered T-Bone rear + wheely bar, just got to do big order of lipo's and all set for the jam, can't wait!
Phil3822
I dont know if anyone else notices this but I find my Firestorms dont stop very well. If going forward then I press reverse it does not really break well at all. I have not adjusted anything but want to learn more about this and see what others think. Mine's the same bud, got the old one (5700kv), makes adjusting in the air a bit tricky but soon get the hang of it.
RooBoonix
Yeah they do stop very smoothly, but tbh, if the braking was more powerful it would just slide out... mine does at the moment!!
bazzabear
Yep, I've noticed the same. If you want to stop in a hurry, you have to put full lock on as well as braking, so it slides to a halt. That said, just read in the manual that the end-point settings for the throttle should be set to their maximum on the controller - and mine weren't. Haven't tried it again since I rectified this, maybe that'll make a difference?
Phil3822
It says in the manual you can adjust breaking via the esc, anyone tried that?
J450n
Get yourselves a castle link, you can adjust the breaking on the esc as well a a load of other stuff.

bazzabear
http://www.modelspor...-products/31244 I'd heard about them, but hadn't even bothered looking into them as I'd assumed they'd be really expensive. bazzabear
I have just taken mine out on wet tarmac for the first time. Ran very well, except there were occasions when it sounded a little high pitched, and power seemed reduced - I think I've worked out the reason for myself, but thought I'd post for confirmation: I've got my slipper clutch too loose, right? Other than that, was great fun. The car park I found had a speed bump, which worked well for a few impromptu jumps. Trying to reach the end of a straight, brake and side-slip, then accelerate out of it was mostly a hilarious failure though - usually resulted in a very rapid 720! I was also surprised to find that the car wasn't popping wheelies - it did last time I was on grass, and I assumed grip would be higher, and wheelies therefore more likely. I guess this is partly that I've loosened the slipper clutch (as mentioned above) and partly that with the tyres it has, grass actually has more grip than wet tarmac. RooBoonix
Sounds like you had good fun In the manual, to set the slipper clutch it says to tighten all the way up and undo 6 turns, I think that is what I have done and it seems fine
bazzabear
Cheers - that is what I had originally done too - but then in a spirit of enquiry, I loosened it about another half turn last night, as I hadn't so far been able to see any effect from it.
