mugen mad
hi so ive gone and bought a wraith kit and i fancy making it into a crawler/jumper/basher. im gonna be putting a brushless set up in it and was wondering if anyone has any upgrades that i need to do/should do. ive read AJ's thread but would like to see what other people have fitted for like gearing, tranny, diffs, shafts, casings, cage and shocks. any help with what i need and where i should be looking for it is a big help as im new to the crawling side of rc and ive always been a slash basher
tonysmini
If fitting brushless, then fit a steel gear set from the off, axial or Robinson racing. There is a cheaper new set out too but I can't find the link at the minute. Fit a slash 32dp 54t spur gear and a 12t pinion When building the props, fill the void in the male halves with a rod or dowel (not too tight or it will cause the props to bind and you'll never get it out if you need access to the screw that holds the ends on) and use a cut off piece of one of the spare female parts to sleeve the exposed male one to add strength and prevent them from collapsing on themselves. Maybe look at alloy front hubs,C's and rear lock outs, go axial or vanquish as the others can be a bit hit or miss on quality. Fit a separate BEC, I only use castle ones and have never been let down, and go for the strongest servo you can, at least 20kg+ on 6v. (Hitec 7450/7455 on mine and my sons. Other than that, you should be okay. From here I would just upgrade as things break.
mugen mad
ok cheers for that info stupid question whats the reason for fitting a seperate bec and why such a high kg servo. also is it worth moving the servo to the chassis
.AJ.
Moving the servo up on to the chassis is more of a scale look thing. Servo wise the more torque the better, I've got a 35kg servo in mine and it really needs the crazy torque, my truck weighs a fair bit lol My list of first upgrades would be VP Stage one kit Metal links, VP or RC4WD Metal gears for the centre box, Robinson Racing or Hot Racing Convert over to 32dp spur, using a Traxxas 56t Slash spur and a 11t pinion Alloy servo horn, I use a small Answer RC one And if budget allows get MIP centre shafts Also the shocks can be a bit hit or miss, some have issues with leaks and some don't lol Then replace/upgrade stuff as you break it Running brushless the lockers and gears in the axles will have a limited lifespan, I've got Axial HD gears and Locked UP RC FI lockers Edited October 30, 2014 by .AJ. .AJ.
Oh and Beadlock wheels of some sorts, the R35 Ripsaws tyres which come with the kit are pretty good, but the rims are rubbish....
mugen mad
for shocks i was either gonna go for proline powerstroker scaler shocks or the gmade piggyback xd shocks, ive decided to go for a 3400kv motor as i used to run one in my slash and its fully waterproof, i looked at the proline beadlocks as well as they looked good for the money, i looked at getting the super shafty bomb-proof gearbox, ive looked at a few axle upgrades including different axle lockers and gearing im planning on buying the bgr fab shock tower parts and eventually other parts of the cage. as for servo ill probably go for a savox SC-1268SG Edited October 30, 2014 by mugen mad
.AJ.
I wouldn't get the scale Powerstrokes, they are really meant for a SCX10 and not up to the job on a heavier truck, get the rears for a Slash or the 105mm Gmade's
