  1. Got a few clips with the Carnage today. Conditions weren't great. A bit wet & muddy with a thick covering of leaves, but the FTX on 3s plowed on through like it was nothing 😋
  2. I think they are a great choice as your first 'bigger' RC (though they're quite small, but not compared to your 1/24th models). They're pretty fast & quite capable for their size. Certainly a good starting point due to their ease of use. Spend some time getting used to driving a 1/14th scale buggy and you will be much more prepared for when you inevitably move up to a 10th/8th scale model 😉 I'll be free towards the end of next week, and throughout the weekend if you fancy driving over. I've taken a screenshot from Google Maps for you & circled the spot i'm talking about: It's not really designed to handle rough terrain, but it can handle some. It will be much better suited to those BMX tracks than your 24th scale models but again I wouldn't recommend using it as a stunt car as parts can break fairly easily. Now a 10th scale truggy/monster truck is going to be much better for that purpose, but the TA RC10 that you mentioned is more of a racing model so won't hold up too well to bashing. I have an FTX Carnage which is also a 1/10th scale brushless truggy, but it sits a lot higher, has longer suspension travel and much bigger wheels & soft tyres, so is suited more for bashing. And it's seriously quick too when running a 3s lipo! There's a plenty of choice when it comes to buying one but I would say start off with a WL Toys or something similar. See how you get on with it, and then decide if you want to get something bigger to take on bigger obstacles. Also you don't need to spend tons of money. £150 - £250 will get you a decent 1/10th scale model. You're welcome mate
  3. Good video dude 👍 Enjoyed that one. That Summit looks like good fun on 4s

  5. Ah right, well as it happens I actually have a 1/14th scale buggy myself. It's a WL Toys 144001. You might've come across them already when browsing different models but if not, this what they look (this is my one): And here's a link to buy one on Banggood if you're interested: https://www.banggood.com/Wltoys-144001-1-or-14-2_4G-4WD-High-Speed-Racing-RC-Car-Vehicle-Models-60km-or-h-Two-Battery-p-1588753.html?rmmds=search&ID=6157207&cur_warehouse=USA At 70 quid they are, in my opinion, very good value for money. You get a nice looking RC with an aluminum chassis & a 550 motor (large for a 1/14th scale model). Out of box they're good for 30mph. But they can break relatively easily if you're not careful, so I wouldn't recommend them too much for dirt jumping. But great for tarmac, gravel, hard dirt & short grass. Well i'm not sure if you'll know where i'm talking about, but there's a nice little spot in a wooded section in Cowplain. It's nicknamed the 'humps & bumps' Nothing big there at all but instead just a nice array of small jumps, mounds & drop offs. Which is a good thing really because it gives my RC's a much better chance at not getting broken.😜

    Scalextric

Yeah man, it was always a good laugh there. Come to think of it, the owner (Tony Bolwell I believe) also had a 1/8th scale offroad track just a couple miles down the road from the Scalextric. That was where I first learnt how to drive my nitro cars properly, aha. Anyway sorry for getting a bit off topic there. Do you have plans to extend your track? Especially if the bits are easy to source on Ebay, I see you still have a bit more space up there for longer straights 😉

    Scalextric

Liking that alot! 👍 There used to be this place near me called bolwextric. Nice size track in a little barn with quite a few lanes for racing parties. Used to love going there when I was a youngster.
  8. @Ag100 That looks really cool mate, what an awesome idea
  9. Hello mate, good to hear from you. Which models have you looked at so far? There's plenty of choice for 1/10th & 1/8th scale buggies and plenty of useful information about the popular models here on this forum. I usually go to spots that are quite local to me, I live in the Waterlooville area, 'bout 10 miles north of Portsmouth city. So I have a couple of local parks/skateparks & one dirt jump spot that I go to run my cars, all of which are in the Horndean/cowplain area. There's also a pump track next to Hilsea lido which is a bit of fun. If you're interested in meeting up some time for some RC bashing then send me a PM 👍
  10. That looks awesome mate! Did you do the shell yourself? If so, spiffing job 👌 it came out really nice
  11. This could mean that there's just a dodgy connection somewhere. Could be the charge lead, the battery connector, or the wires on the nimh battery. And if it's none of those then those batteries are most likely dead. Nimh type batts have a tendency to die if left for a long period of time, I.E. A year or more. Do either of them happen to be swollen at all? Edit: Also it may be a good idea to get yourself a multimeter/volt meter and test your batteries. They should read about 1.5v when fully charged. If they are a bit under, say 1-1.25v, try charging for an hour then test again. If they read significantly under that and you've charged/used them a few times then your best bet is going to be to buy some new ones. Get yourself some lipos though. I have an FTX Carnage as well and they are much better when you run a 2s lipo for brushed or 2s - 3s for brushless. Mine is brushless, not sure about yours? If you're not sure then post a photo here with the bodyshell off.
  12. Thanks for your reply mate 👍 I did have a plan in mind of converting it to brushless but the more I think about it the more I want to leave it as it is. And as it happens I have another brushless RC on the way anyway... 😋 But yeah I know it's an old esc by todays standards, but I think im going to leave it all stock and ill order a tamiya to deans adapter and run it with one of my 2s lipos (the biggest one that'll fit). That way it should, in theory, remain in good condition 🤞 and it will be the extra RC that I take with me for my friends to use, instead of one of my faster/more expensive ones. I probably won't be upgrading any parts, at least not for now, but go on then let's see what yours look like.

    SOLD

Hi mate, hope you still have this as i'm interested. I've sent you a PM 👍
  14. Recently dug out my old LST2 with plans of getting it back up & running again. So obviously i'm going to need to get some fresh fuel, new glow plug & glow starter. I have these in my basket currently ↓ Do you think they'll be alright? Also going to need a new nitro starter drill (complete with battery) so if anyone could point me in the right direction that would be great 😁
  15. I think that's a wise decision for sure. Either way this kind of brushless setup will feel A LOT different from driving those tyco cars back in the day 😋 Yes, 2s meaning 2 cells (7.4v) and 3s - 3 cells (11.1v). There is a significant power increase when using a lipo over nimh, but to be honest I think you've made a good choice there. Getting acquainted with the car & getting used to driving it will be easier when using a less powerful battery. And yeah that motor & esc combo can take a maximum of 3 cell lipo/9 cell nimh, so you're all good
  16. Awesome! And ah yes, of course. Probably better off waiting for the tape to arrive & then give it a proper run outdoors. That also prevents any premature breakages from crashing into a very solid kitchen unit... trust me, it's easily done 😂 That esc & motor combo looks good to me. But just know that with 4000kv's you're gonna be getting a pretty high top speed if you plan to run it on 3s. On 2s it will probably be tame enough (30-35mph ish) but with 3 cells it may get a bit uncontrollable. You may be better off with this combo: https://www.modelsport.co.uk/index.php?product_id=420922 That one has a 3300kv motor instead which will give you more punchy acceleration with less top end. It's all about personal preference though... maybe you want a speed demon
  17. She's looking great so far mate Get all those electronics in there and lets see a test run!
  18. Got a second hand short course strada today I believe its a first generation Strada Evo SC model, and I think that they came out in 2015. It seems to have had very little use during the last 5 years though as it's all in tip top condition. Along with the car I also got a couple of old Tamiya batteries (nimh & ni-cd) and they are really lacking in oomph. So the question I have for you guys is can you run these on a 2s lipo? The esc is a msc-22. I think it will be fine but just wanted to be sure.
  19. Had an RC arrive today 🙂 the collection is slowly building... This time it's a second hand one. A late night purchase from Facebook marketplace... but fortunately it turned out to be a good 'un 👍 So its a Maverick Strada Evo SC. It's had barely any use and therefore is in really good nick, which is how the seller described it. I think i got a pretty good deal with it. £65 all in. He also included the transmitter & 2 batteries in the sale, a 1400mah ni-cd 7.2v & 1800mah nimh 7.2v, so obviously won't be getting much speed out of them but its nice to have a couple of the oldschool Tamiya batteries. So yeah, really pleased with it. I think it's a cool looking short course truck, with the option of easily upgrading it to a brushless setup should I ever get bored with the brushed motor.
  20. Nice video mate 👍 I think the truck actually looks quite nice, it's just a shame about those issues you talked about on the video. They need to do better than that for the price of it.
  21. Indeed! Aha. 😋 Alright so today I really want to get the bits I need ordered. This is what my basket on Modelsport looks like currently: I'm pretty sure that those 3 items will be fine for my LST, but if anyone has some better recommendations then please let me know. The one thing i'm really not sure about is which engine starter to get. I've gone off the idea of using my own drill as i don't want to take any chances & break something. I can't find anywhere to buy a replacement of the one that came with the model, and i've really looked around. Ideally I don't want to spend too much either (maybe £20-£40), but I want one that comes as a complete unit, I.E. with a battery & charger. Any suggestions?
  22. Haha, this man loves his nitros ↑ but yeah mate, that's the plan. It won't be getting used too often, especially this time of year, but once I get her running again she will definitely be getting the bash she deserves after sitting there for all those years. After looking up the weights of various nitro engines (didn't manage to find it for the Mach 427 though) I think it's safe to say I was wrong. They're a lot lighter than I expected. And yeah I imagine when you're running a large 6s capable motor & esc + a hefty servo then also factor in the weight of a 6s battery (probably 600-800g?) then it's going to far exceed the weight of the nitro engine, exhaust & a couple hundred ml of fuel. Haha, and even if that scenario was to occur i'd probably end up turning their offer down as I will have been infected by the nitro bug once again
  23. Haha, now you say it I do recall that they had a tendency to go dead after a very short amount of time. Awesome, and yeah you're right it will probably be plenty fast on 4s, most RC's are! Even at it's orginal weight of about 5kg i'm sure it would go well enough, but of course there's a massive weight reduction after doing the brushless conversion. Must be about 1.5-2kg lighter now without the engine & all its components. I really look forward to seeing your progress mate. Do you plan on changing to the v2 drivetrain in the future in order to run 6s? And yeah man no worries at all. I'd very much like to see how yours looks 👍
  24. You're welcome bud. Ah okay, should be perfect for you then. When you're ready to stick the belt cover on just use a Stanley blade to to cut a 5mm strip from that roll 👍
