  1. Welcome aboard Jim. I'm sure we can all learn a thing or too from you but we'll all be happy to help you too should the need arise. Hope I'm still enjoying RC when I reach my senior years (42 now so getting there).
  2. I'll leave the motor as a surprise for the thread but yes it's a bigger motor than can fit in the standard location. 😉 FYI in case this helps you @racing shed I've got a TP4060CM in my Arrma Typhon speed runner and it measures 92mm from the mount to the end of the can ~ it measures 110mm total length including the wires which tbh aren't very flexible at the base of the can so should be included in the length. I did hear before that something you could do is buy a "sensored" motor as the wires on those come out the top instead of the back of the can. You don't run the sensor then but I've never tried that though and tbh would rather just get a motor that fits where I want it to.
  3. I bought my Infraction used and almost every single screw was rusted. 😢 It's been stripped down to bare bones and rebuilt from the ground up. I replaced every single rusted screw that I could as well as all the bearings and even the servo saver spring which was heavily corroded. I'm keeping the Infraction 6S as I already have a Limitless that is 8S and think that for drag runs the 6S will be more than good enough. Motor will be a TP motor. Have a look at Onyx RC Power if you fancy a new motor to see what he can do for you: https://www.facebook.com/MikeTpmotors Just waiting for parts so not a lot I can do on it at the mo. Even if it was running the British weather wouldn't let me out with it so maybe a good thing it's not finished.
  4. Never heard anyone mention that before tbh so that's a new one. Next time I speak to some of the ROSSA guys I'll ask if any of them have heard that before. @pieman5 @Redback you two heard anything like that before?
  5. Been a little while since I posted in this thread so thought I'd add an update. I have a Castle XLX2 ready for this and am waiting for a new motor to be ordered by a supplier. I am also waiting for suitable gears as my speed running gears are too tall for my drag build. I've done some mods in preparation for the new ESC/motor combo ~ I'll be flipping the mount around so one of the battery trays has been removed although to keep my Scorched Parts carbon fibre side plates I have cut the removed battery tray in half to retain the mounting points. I have also cut the original ESC/RX mount in half so that it doesn't get in the way when the motor mount is flipped. These mods also have a secondary benefit as in drag racing saving weight is quite critical (or so I've read) and removing these parts including the screws has saved me 91.98g. The total weight loss I have achieved so far with parts removed is 224.6g but then I have also added weight with my Scorched Parts side pieces, home made wing and wheelie bar (albeit all are easily removable).
  6. I've got that one you linked above fitted on my Futaba 4PLS radio and I know a few speed runners who use the same one. I bought mine from eBay but it's the same. Link: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/252693450693 So that I didn't have to do any soldering I used this SMA male plug so it was very simple to fit on/in my radio. Link: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/294528826070 For powering mine I am using a Turnigy 3S lipo (as below). I was warned these boosters are power hungry so a minimum of 3S was recommended to me and nothing below 2500mAh. Link: https://hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-2650mah-3s-1c-lipoly-tx-pack-futaba-jr-1.html
  7. You're still not "Gold" though. Lol. Maybe have a word with @Nick about that and see if he can sort it for you. Probably something simple.
  8. So 48DP is the pitch of the gears OR to simplify it the gear tooth size. Standard Tamiya gears on the TT02 are a fairly small pitch, I believe it is Mod 0.6 so the teeth are smaller than the ones on a 48 pitch gear. The larger teeth will be inherently stronger so able to deal with higher power brushless set ups imho (providing the gear mesh is good). That 1:1 ratio he mentioned I believe he just meant that he could do that if needed rather than that is what he does run. With gearing you're best off starting with the smallest pinion gear that will fit with your chosen spur gear and then gear up accordingly after you run the car and see what the speeds are. I started with a 61T spur gear (48DP) although I can't remember what the pinion gear was sorry. I did also do the mod to my gear cover as Stew mentions in that video you posted. It leaves the gears a little exposed but if you were that worried about a stone getting in there I guess you could always put some metal wire mesh or similar over the top (again making sure to leave room for larger gears).
  9. Not had an 8ight for a while now after selling it but I know you do need to be careful with what you buy between different variants as some things did change and won't fit other models depending on the model. If you are on Facebook the "Losi 8ight (buggy and truggy) group is great for information harvesting. Link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1424092227849196
  10. If you're going to use a Tamiya TT02 then you're going to want to add the "Tamiya High Speed Gear Set". Link: https://www.plazajapan.com/4950344545001/?setCurrencyId=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIhuL105bQ9QIVSO3tCh2IwgfrEAQYBCABEgI-0_D_BwE It will allow you to run more gearing options as well as a larger gear pitch (I ran 48DP) to cope better with the increased power from a brushless system. You'll also want to do a little mod to the chassis so that you can run bigger pinion gears. Basically you just need to cut out some plastic, ...first picture shows my car with the high speed gear newly fitted. If you look at the second picture and compare to the first you should be able to see the plastic part I removed. You'll also need a "Yeah Racing Aluminium Adjustable Motor Mount" so that you can adjust the motor position for larger pinions. Link: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/353790687435?hash=item525f9178cb:g:qAUAAOSwahVfpBf- Motor wise if you're doing speed runs then you could try the fake Castle motors available from China. They're a lot cheaper and usually do well in my experience. I'm using that in one of my speed run cars a 1/12th scale Serpent S120LTX and so far run 106mph on 3S. Regarding ESC's I agree with Stew that Castle really is the best way to go. I'd recommend the Castle Mamba Monster 2. I actually ran a speed run TT02 for one session but decided to sell it before I did any real runs because I had too many speed run cars so wanted to concentrate more on my other cars. This was how my TT02 Type SR was set up for running a 2S shorty pack... Have a read of this great article about the TT02 and mods/ideas. Link: https://www.thercracer.com/2014/08/tamiya-tt02-guide-mods-tuning-and-tips.html Wish you luck.
  11. Mods/Admin @Nick you can lock this or remove this whenever ready as this has been sold. Thank you.
  12. Just looked at that buggy now @.AJ. , ...you definitely got a great bargain there and kudos to Make It Build It for honouring the price advertised. I buy from them occasionally and in fact just bought an XLX2 from them the other week as cheapest around. Great service and prices.
  13. Oh and @Ant.p I left a laughing emoji for your video not because it was rubbish or anything but cause the end made me laugh.... "through the legs"
  14. No I haven't sorry but I've used those trays before for a few builds. They are fairly thin but not had any break yet even when I crashed my Limitless at ROSSA last year and the batteries held in location too.
  15. That's bl**dy brilliant @Ant.p . Well done. Forget about what anyone else is doing in the speed run world you broke your PB and imho 86mph is nothing to be sniffed at. The good thing is about the way you are going is that you're learning and progressing, ....not only improving what works for your buggy but improving your own throttle control and driving skills. Biggest part is you had fun though.
  16. Thought I'd post this James just in case it might help you out, ...it's not a Losi battery tray, more of a universal one but is cheap so another option for you maybe. Link: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/194278843076?hash=item2d3bebe2c4:g:bukAAOSwG1Jb8qHk
  17. Welcome aboard @Paul Aston .
  18. You're more than welcome and so glad you found somewhere to go & had fun together too. Wish you many more years of fun together in the hobby. ❤️
  19. **SOLD** Spektrum Firma 150Amp Smart brushless ESC (SPMXSE1150), Spektrum Firma 2050KV brushless motor (SPMXSM1700) and Arrma motor heat sink and 35mm fan. Removed from my Arrma Infraction V2 in working order. 6S brushless motor system. ESC does have a cracked/broken mount but this does not effect it's functionality. I have stuck some 3M double sided tape on the ESC so that can be used for fitting or the remaining screw hole or both. Asking price for complete combo above including PayPal goods fees, Royal Mail Second Class Signed For/tracked delivery (UK mainland only) is £140 o.n.o. New reduced price £SOLD delivered ONO. Any questions please feel free to ask ~ may split if does not sell as complete combo.
  20. Appreciate that. It's actually really nice to work with providing you use the proper cutting and drilling tools.
  21. Thanks ~ Kept me busy for a few hours, ...not bad really for less than £30 including all materials/fixings. Wheelie bar was only £17 odd from China.
