  1. I run a Speed Passion 10.5t brushless motor with a hobbywing 10bl120 esc in my B6.2 and they go great together, with a 4000mah battery
  2. Bought my 2nd kit, an MF01X chassis off a mate, added a Phat bodies MK2 Escort shell and tried my hand at something a bit different. I need to improve my masking skills but think it turned out alright....
  3. My first Tamiya kit, also a Lancia Delta. Tamiya centre shaft, alloy steering arms, adjustable turnbuckles, Hobbywing 1040 ESC, Savox 0254MG servo, Turnigy adjustable oil filled shocks, RCBearing set. Not yet taken it out (don't want to ruin it haha), hopefully going out later today though.
  4. the 65mm shocks do fit, just. Changed the bottom ball joints to slightly smaller ones but all good
  5. hi folks, I just purchased my first Tamiya kit, a TT02 Lancia Delta Integrale. I'm waiting for a bearing set from RCbearings and a servo from Modelsport, so I've not been able to properly start it just yet (I built the diffs and put the tyres on the rims because it was killing me looking at it!). I know the shocks that come with the kit are a bit rubbish, but I have a nice set of adjustable Trackstar shocks that I bought from Hobbyking a while ago for my old Maverick Ion (RIP) gathering dust. They are 65mm long eye to eye....I know they may not be "the best" shocks but they are far better than the stock pogo sticks, so thought they may work? However....are they too long? cheers
  6. you will need to replace the steering servo and receiver if you replace the ESC. The ESC is a combined ESC and receiver unit. And the servo is a 5 wire servo, which you will need to swap to a 3 wire servo (unless your new receiver accepts a 5 wire servo).
  7. I had exactly the same buggy, broke it after a few mins - snapped shock in half. Upgraded shocks, snapped a steering knuckle. Fixed, decided to convert to brushless. Ruined it, plastic gears couldn't cope. Sold it as a parts car, replaced with a WLToys 144001. Anyway....long story short...I bought my Maverick Ion because I'd bought my daughter an FTX Colt which is the same 1/18th scale and I liked the size. Her Colt has metal gears and driveshaft and you can run it on 2s lipo stock out of the box. Parts are cheaper and in the couple of years she's had it, it's proven really reliable. Only 1 broken part - steering knuckle - she drove straight into a kerb. I've added a big piece of foam to the front so hopefully won't be any more. If you're liking the 1/18th scale I'd recommend the FTX Colt. I am a novice myself, and am just comparing the Colt to the Ion.
  8. Santa brought me one. So far nothing has broken, but I've had to bend the front shock mount straight as well as a front drive shaft and the central drive shaft. A wheel came off because the nyloc wheel nuts don't lock. Some screws have come loose, so have had to re-tighten and loctite. It's a budget buggy, but for the money it's great. And it flies.
  9. sorry folks I know this is an old post (LOL) but I kind of lost interest in the car...I had so many problems with it I ended up chucking it in the loft. Got bored this weekend, dusted it off, spent a couple of hours swapping the gears from the WL toys diffs I bought last time round. Thrashed it. Lasted 2 mins, they aren't any better. Just thought I'd report in....plus I'm bored at work. Still on the hunt for better diffs....anyone?
  10. I have a Maverick ion I've converted to brushless. Of course I've stripped both diffs, but don't want to spend £40 on a new pair so have been searching for a cheaper alternative. I ordered a WL toys diff off fleabay the other day, hoping it would fit because it "looked" the same so took a punt. It doesn't (bearings and diff cups are different) HOWEVER....the little gears inside the diff are the same as the Ion. Plus there are 4 instead of the Ion's 2. So I have stripped and swapped the gears. Sorted. Cost me £6 instead of £20 for one diff. I found cheaper ones from China for £3 ish too. Searched for WL A959 diff. Fingers crossed the 4 gears will last longer than stock 2, but for £3 a time I don't mind so much.
  11. Friday nights at Unstone village hall, from 7pm to 9pm. £3 and just turn up and race, really relaxed, handful of chaps, nothing fancy. Nowhere near as big as Manor in post above though. I pop in every now and then and take my daughter (she races her car in between heats)
  12. So, had the brushless set up installed for a couple of months now, not used it much but issues so far have been - diff drive cups snapped - replaced all with metal. Pinion gear - changed to brass. Rear diff - stripped teeth so was running on 2wd for a while, now 0 wheel drive as yesterday I thraped it from one end of the street to the other, then just after the shredding noise, it rolled to a stop. I've not pulled apart yet but think I've now stripped both diffs lol. Does anyone know of a better direct replacement? Don't want to simply replace with another plastic diff and do the same again.... Also think I'll replace the steering tie-rods for adjustable ones as it wanders too much at full chat, and will change dog bones to ali, as they're looking tired. When I've got it sorted I'll stick some pics up....fitted some nice fully adjustable shockers that look sweet and improve handling no end
  13. hmmm. Managed to shred the pinion gear last night. I hadn't set the motor in the right place after fitting it all. Ah well, suppose this is how you learn, the hard way lol. I've been told a metal pinion (but with the plastic spur) would be a better set up than plastic on plastic?
