Welcome mate. I started the same way buying one for my 8 yr old. Trouble is when you take them somewhere its abit boring just watching so I bought one for me too, Its a BSD-Racing prime onslaught as it is what the local shop stocks including the spares, So far its great although I may update it to brushless in the future. Just somewhere for him to take it. Local park is a bit boring. Other than that it's the school car park which is quick as it's concrete but not much fun.

Motor and ESC but I think the motor is faulty as I cant get it working

Bought a new ESC and motor (HPI Firebolt) When I connect it all up the ESC doesn't recognise the motor (no beeping) If I connect my old motor the ESC works fine and if I pull the trigger there is a noise from it but nothing works. Is there a way of testing a motor to see if it works or not? Got a son here wanting to go back out with it and moaning like mad that his useless dad cant fix it. Thanks Gav

To be fair he no we have given it some stick over the last 2 weeks so really I think its down to us. What electrics will need replacing in your opinion? the ESC and motor?

Not looking good. Just tried a new battery in both the charger and car still buzzing. Then there was a but of smoke from motor

Just won on ebay a Himoto Grim Reaper 1:10 monster truck cheap. That will keep him going till xmas when he might get something better and then I will have it from him and pimp it. He cant wait for it to arrive now, (to be fair neither can I) Gav

Sorry if this is covered elsewhere but is there a big difference in running time between Nimh batteries and Lipo? Looking at getting either the Maverick or a Carnage for the boy and will be buying more battery packs for it but dont want to waste money on something that isnt worth it Thanks Gav

With regards to the Carnage and maverick. Will any 7.2v NiMH battery pack fit it? Is there a big difference between say a 3300 and a 3800mah? will they give a lot longer running time? Sorry for all the questions just trying to get my head around it all.

Its between the Carnage and the Maverick Strada now. Although when he sees the Maverick Strada MT Evo RTR Monster Truck he may well prefer this one. Are these still ok?

Thinking of getting a carnage (electric type) for my 8 yr old after a recommendation form SI Coe on here. Looking at the videos on youtube they seem quick. Is there anything I could do to slow it down abit while he gets better at controlling it? Thanks Gav -
Thanks SI COE. Seen FTX Colt on that well known auction site, would one of these be ok for him? do they usually come with everything you need - controller batteries etc?

My boy has a cheap rc Subaru and now wants an off road buggy or monster truck. Now I don't want to spend a fortune (he is 8) but want one that will last or can be repaired. Any suggestions welcome as to which to go for Thanks Gav
