  1. Read up on engine tuning. That is the be all and end all of nitro rc's. Keep an eye on your clutch and buy some spare springs. Also get your self some spare exhaust springs and exhaust gaskets. These have a habit of breaking when you least expect it! Also use the best fuel you can afford. NEVER run the engine lean!!! Other than that just let it rip and enjoy the sound and smell.
  2. If it has fuel, a source of ignition and compression it should at least fire up. It sounds fuel related to me. Is it flooding? Try leaning the two needles off a touch and try and start it. Thats what I would start with anyway!
  3. Depends if you want cheap or good! Good I would either say a novarossi keep off 4 port or a bullitt 219. The keep off motors are beasts!! Great race engines, grunty, good run times and more top end power than you will ever really need. The bullitt seems to rev harder than anything I have ever raced against, being a fast engine is an under statement. Both you wont have any change out of
  4. That is the trouble with carbs if you want maximum performance. I used to run a race bike(zx6r) and just bought the kit to do it myself, all it took was patience. I quite enjoyed the fettling! At least with the older nova's/fiesta's nothing is really expensive and they are easy to work on! His nova sport we ended up taking the engine and box out, stripping it ready for a respray. Usual story, sat in a garage in bits for months before losing interest and being sold for buttons, though not a vauxhall fan, I did feel it was a shame! Haha yeah it sounds like your mates nova needs the nitrous! Nothing like a bit of overkill!lol Being a ford man, I bought an XR2i 16v. The cambelt snapped after many trackdays, burnouts and general abuse. So set about fitting a 2.0 16v zetec from a mondeo. I rebuilt the engine, skimmed the head, added a Custom 4 branch, inlet cam advanced 8 degrees, de-cat, magnex cat back, removed the egr valve, raised the fuel pressure and bored the throttle body to 62mm. It went like stink, enough to out drag my mates redtop nova anyway. Then bought a set of jenvey 45mm throttle bodies, emerald ecu and a set of cat cams. Should have been enough for 200+ bhp. Never fitted them, sold everything including the car and regretted it ever since! It would have been awesome in a car that weighed less than my shoes! The car is still attending car shows in northern ireland now! Keep up the good work mate, old skool cars rock!!
  5. On the note of nova's, i'm a ford man and hated nova's with a passion. A friend made me drive his nova sport I think it was. Mk1 1300, twin 40's and some stripes. I must say it was awesome! Nimble, noisy and the webbers sounded great at 7000rpm!! I still told him it was ***** though! I will never tell him the truth!lol And I agree, french cars are utter garbage.
  6. I honestly cant believe the ignorance of some people. Mainly foriegners too! My mum is disabled(broke her back some years ago, has crutches still and can barely walk) and had a similar thing to your missus. They ordered a new matress, 2 drivers arrived when mum was home alone. She offered them tea/coffee etc as she always does and asked them if they could take it upstairs, its only 1 flight, no obstructions etc. They just said no, sorry, were not allowed, sign here please and dumped it in the hallway and drove off! All this from a reputable bed company. Scum bags! FFS help a disabled person out! I hope karma catches up with these people!!
  7. As tempting as it was, he looked like a russian shot putter! He would have probably shrugged that off too! He was huge. He hasnt delivered here since so maybe my complaints about his lack of english, attitude and generally being a cock got him the boot! There is hope for us all yet!!
  8. In fairness, in these parts, royal mail/parcel force do a great job. The only company I have had trouble with is yodel. They damaged one of my 25kg,
  9. Ah the old ecotec mysteries!lol if the light doesnt go off over the weekend then take it back to the garage and get them to plug it in. Without actually hearing where the noise is coming from its impossible to say! Does it sound like its coming from around the rocker cover or lower down the engine? A good way to find the noise is to get a screwdriver, hold the metal end to the area that sounds noisy and put your ear on the handle, use it as a stethoscope. If the garage has put the wrong grade of oil in the engine it will make it sound tappety. My advice is change the oil and filter straight away with the correct oil for the car. Then see if it either quietens down or stops it. Any car with hydraulic lifters are very sensitive to the wrong oils!
  10. What car is it? Ticking noise could be anything really! Tappets, lifters, cam chain, low oil pressure the list is endless mate! Judging by the car and spanner i'm guessing its a vauxhall. Ecotec engines have a habit of blowing the oil pressure switch and throwing oil all over the place so as long as its not still leaking, the smoke will go away after its burned off.
  11. Just to add, if you do fancy an sworkz buggy, buy the evo. Its a much improved car over the bk1. If you want one speak to steve at bay racers rc. He is a top bloke and will give you any help you need. Answer rc stock all the parts and they are FAST to deliver and customer service is second to none.
  12. If you look at race results then I guess the Hot Bodies D812 is probably the best out there. I run an Sworkz and at my club(ledbury) they are very popular despite the slagging they get. But as somebody has already said, its personal preference. I moved from an associated RC8.2 to the sworkz and for me they were night and day. Its built like a tank and in 4 rounds all I have damaged is a driveshaft from me getting cocky and hitting a jump flat out. Straight over the jumps, landing hard on the rear wheel and ending up about 30yards away on the wrong part of the track!lol Get to a club, have a look at the cars and speak to the owners. See how easy spares are to get for the buggies and go from there.
  13. If you can post a pic of the damaged nut, it may be easier to diagnose the problem mate. Also is it a 2, 3 or 4 shoe clutch?
  14. My advice would be to get your BRCA license and join a club if you havent already and get out and have a go with what you have and upgrade from there. I know from experience its not the car that makes the biggest difference, its the driver. Hell, there is a young lad at our club who races a stock HPi trophy3.5 against every top branded off road 1/8 you can imagine and he never comes last!
  15. Hi, I used to race 1/10 nitro touring cars and raced a yokomo GT4. It was a while ago so cant remember the exact model. Its sat on the shelf for years not being able to find a couple of bits for it. I need a 47t 1st gear spur gear, a 2 speed clutch bell and a drive belt. It is/was running an RB 12x motor. Does anybody know where I can find these? Or maybe you have new parts sat in a box somewhere. If anybody can help I would appreciate it! I would love to get it up and running again as back in the day it was the car to have! Thanks Adam
  16. True dat! On the other end of the scale, ordered some new driveshafts for my Sworkz yesterday at 1pm from Answer rc. Arrived at 10am this morning! About 10 emails in the process to say they were on the way, paid for etc. Now that is service!!
  17. New driveshafts for my Sworkz S350 evo. Bent one at my last race after getting too cocky and trying to take 4 jumps in one. Lesson learned!
  18. I made a similar mistake, bought
  19. We have all done it mate, you get what you pay for unfortunatly! Put it down to a lesson learned!
  20. Back in the days when I used to fly, i Iearned with a plane called a prangster. Are these still around? Any way, that was a high wing, semi aerobatic trainer. Think of it as a stronger Wot4. After folding the wings mid snap roll my dad gave me a flair cap 232 he had built. It was fantastic! 56" with an irvine 53 iirc. Very easy to fly and super precise. Dont be put off by people saying stay high wing. Depending on the plane, low wings can be just as easy to fly. Having a fairly large wing area it could be flown at little more than walking pace, turn up the rates, give her some stick and it could do everything I asked of it. As long as you are a fairly confident flyer then just get something you like within reason. Since that I have had limbo dancers, massively over powered delta's and another cap 232. As long as it will fly relatively slowly without dropping a wing you will be fine. I wouldnt recommend a delta, they are pigs to fly and rely purely on speed to stay in the air! They are fun though!
  21. In a panic trying to start my car for a race. It just would not fire up! New engine with only half a gallon through it and I was starting to lose my rag, then it dawns on me, I never put the glow starter on!
  22. Thanks for the welcome guys, Thanks nick, I will be sure to get some pics up when I get near a pc.
  23. Alot of people at my club run fastrax enduro engines, they seem ok providing you change the carb and run it in properly. If you want to spend a bit more then I run an RB Blast motor, not overly expensive, its easy to tune, so far reliable and it goes like the clappers! Answer rc are selling them with a pipe for around
  24. Just thought i'd introduce myself. I'm Adam and live in herefordshire. I race an 1/8th nitro buggy. I have only raced at my local club ledbury so far but I love it! I currently run an Sworkz S350 Evo with an RB blast V15 engine. I look forward to exploring the site!
