  1. Same for me, Christmas 1990 I built my first hobby grade RC car a Tamiya Grasshopper 2. I was 12 my dad and I built it over a few days....great memories.
  2. Buy a Tamiya kit and build it with your son, this way you have the fun of the build also a huge selection to choose from and most way more durable than FTX...
  3. I've broken two rear wings also, I have an old wing (can't remember what make) but it's much more flexible than the stock one and won't break.....you could get another stock wing and then boil it to make it a touch more flexible, that might work??.
  4. To be fair I understand some of your complaints, the battery and ESC tray are rubbish really and I had to trim some of the servo mount off to just install the servo. Also as with all RTR's that have 6061 aluminium they bend and break quite easily if you like to jump lol. I have the 7075 chassis and front shock tower on mine and the difference is clear. The chassis can take far more punishment than the normal cheap metal that comes with RTR's. A tower to tower brace is what you need if big jumps are what you're after and want to stick with the stock chassis, two rear braces as stated above will not solve the problem.....it will still bend in front of the two braces unfortunately. Another side note the stock body looks terrible IMO with the extra bit to accommodate the nitro exhaust so I got a Kyosho MP9e body and made it fit......much better.. 7075 chassis, shock towers and hinge pin holders/hangers are what you want to make this a proper bashing machine!!! I just need a rear shock tower and hangers and i'll be sweet lol
  5. Basically the Kraton is the Truck version and the Talion is the Truggy which comes with smaller wheels and wing, shorter front shock tower so the body sits a bit lower for sleeker look and a slightly different chassis although the same length as the Kraton.
  6. For the budget you have I would buy a brand new Arrma Kraton or Talion, very durable and if they do break plenty of aftermarket support....RPM do loads of parts along with others. My Talion is easily the most durable RC I've owned.
  7. I have never rounded a single head yet....think you're doing something wrong mate.
  8. Alright guys, if anyone is interested I was trying to find a new body for a while now but I couldn't find something different for the Hyper range. After a long search I decided to buy a Kyosho MP9e body to see how well it fitted. Its a nice cab forward design and with a bit of surgery at the front I made it fit and quite well, it looks like it belongs.....its a little bit rough where I had to cut bits out to allow for the steering to work but hey, I will know what needs doing for when I get another! lol...still its hard to notice any rough bits as I painted it a solid black. Unfortunately my phone is buggered so I can't get any pics up of it just now. I will try to get some up somehow......still if anyone fancies a new look I can confirm that this body will fit with not much fettling. I cannot stand the stock body with that extra bit to accommodate a nitro exhaust....looks silly. Ta Pete.
  9. I think its a great idea, just like the XO1 a speed run specific car. From the videos I've seen so far it looks properly planted at 100mph. Its not just a kraton with short arms either, its a new chassis and I like that its a roller.....awesome.
  10. Not 100% but I'm pretty sure you must be able to get an upgrade as there is a CNC one for the rear.
  11. I run a V1 Arrma Talion which is a few years old now and I've only ever bent a front shock shaft in that time....quite impressive really.
  12. I have the 7075 chassis and it makes a huge difference, the standard chassis and the rest of the aluminium is all pretty terrible. I bent mine and the front shock tower at the local golf course and replaced both with 7075 items with no problems since. If you want to brace it I would put one from the centre diff top plate back to one of the holes in the rear brace itself, that way there is no flex. 👍
  13. Do any of you guys know of a cab forward body which will fit the VS or indeed any of the Hyper cars? I like the look of the straight edge style which you see on the Kyosho Infernos......Any ideas?
  14. Bit pricey but i run overlander supersports, 4s 5000mah only 30c/50c but they are over three years old and run well even in my Arrma Talion. Have a couple of other makes but Overlander are definitely the best.
  15. Get a Tamiya kit, you and your boy can build it.....plenty of choice and plenty of spares.
  16. The worst thing is that RC cars are a magnet for dodgy chavvy neds, who then immediately approach and say "geez a shot mate" to which i reply "no" and then i wait to see how badly they react.....this seems to happen a lot where i live anyway lol.
  17. Talking about Overlanders......i think they are great! I have two 5000mah 30C supersport 4S's which are both well over three years old, never sag during running even in my Arrma Talion and outpunch my supposedly higher C rated lipos.....Awesome batteries.
  18. How about going 1/8th scale with the hyper VSe, a tiny wee bit over budget but a nice car with good parts availability. A 1/8th scale buggy is the best RC around IMO as long as you get a decent one to start with....Hobao Hyper VSe or the Arrma Typhon (if you can find one) would be my choice.
  19. I've always bought bashers but i really want a Tekno, it's just the cost...but i will say if you want a durable RC at basher prices then you can't go wrong with Arrma, if you can find one lol. Had my Talion for almost 3 years now and only bent a shock shaft in all that time. My Hyper VS is not bad either although i did just destroy it a couple of weeks ago in a massive accident (which would of destroyed any RC) and am in the process of a rebuild with CNC parts. If you have the money and want the toughest get a Tekno but i honestly believe that Arrma are not far behind in terms of durability and at half the cost of a Tekno.
  20. Well i say she's back to looking her best but she is wingless atm as it got split in two lol. The new one should be here soon with the cnc front tower as the stock one got badly bent and has since been hammered straight.....Also trying to find a cab forward body that fits a Hyper.....any idea's? Hopefully get some pics up soon, can't just now as my phone is buggered..
  21. Just finished a rebuild of my Hyper VSe after a huge accident. Got the 7075 chassis for it and was surprised to see the holes for the sideguards were not big enough nor were they countersunk like they should of been, so i drilled them out and countersunk them myself lol. All done now and she is back to looking her best.....New wing and CNC front shock tower should be here next week as well ?.
  22. As we know there are no cnc chassis braces for the VS but i have noticed that the cnc braces from the Hyper 8 pro may well fit or be made to fit lol....firstly the VS seems to share a lot of parts with the Hyper 8 such as diff houses, suspension hangers and wing mount, also Kev Talbot from youtube land has a frankenhyper which seems to be a VS with bits bolted on from a Hyper 8 Such as CNC shock towers and others. What makes me think the 8 pro's braces would fit is the rear brace secures itself to the same wing mount in the same way as the VS as does the front brace look like it bolts on to the steering plate in the same way. It's just how they mount to the chassis, don't know if the holes would line up......but you could drill new holes........just a thought.
  23. I'm running two quicruns just now, one in my Hyper VS and the other in my Arrma Talion. Never had a problem with either.....awesome for the price!
  24. No there are no upgrades available for the braces....best thing to do is make a tower to tower brace, i had to do this for my trophy flux as it bent very easily. The hyper is better tho and did take a huge crash to bend it. Hopefully this chassis will help with future crashes lol.
  25. I don't get it, my Hyper never broke for almost two years and it's now broke again for the third time in as many months...this time it was a real nasty one, came off a jump at full pelt went to correct it in mid air and got it so terribly wrong lol. Landed badly on its wing which broke the wing clean in two, bent the chassis along with the centre rear dogbone and ripped out the rear chassis brace. ? It was a good excuse to now order the 7075 chassis along with new chassis braces, i think i can straighten the dogbone and i'll have to get a new wing further down the line...Also gonna upgrade to 7075 shock towers and suspension hangers at some point.
