  1. I'll be ordering one of these soon, can't fault the price for the features it gives. Seems to come with a full mounting kit too. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idproduct=87808 Cheaper one for those who don't care about 1080p 60fps: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idproduct=68620
  2. I noticed the x-maxx has totally disappeared from the modelsport site, did I miss something?
  3. Vote for the XT range for me, I have XT60's on my 2S batteries (usually used on my 1/10 vehicle) and XT90s on my 4S batteries. Deans might be the most common but its had its day and need to die, there are much better designed connectors out there now. Interesting vid on the connectors and the comment about the XT150 makes sense, problem is they are not readily available in the UK. Not even hobby king have them in the UK warehouse.
  4. I have a Turnigy TGY-1269HV in my savage, only ran it a couple of times but has plenty of power.
  5. Not sure what items you where looking at but I generally find them cheaper, my last 3 orders have been on average around £5 cheaper then modelsport, hence why I have shopped with them. Postage is also generally cheaper, hint hint modelsport lower your prices... However saying that my first order was in January which was fine, but my last 2 orders have been massively delayed being dispatched. Even if they have the parts in stock its usually been 2 full working days after ordering before they even dispatch and I've been waiting over a week for my "supplier stock" items to be dispatched and its still pending shipment as I type this. They need to get their act in gear. I certainly wont be ordering from them again.
  6. Have you seen this? Keeping a close eye on this, really want this truck but it does seem the diffs are the weak point.
  7. Looks good, Your rear hub link is wrong, links to the shocks again, copy/paste error? Might consider getting them shocks myself. Don't fancy the Innovative-RC tvps?
  8. The guys recommended this one for my hyper ss conversion, very pleased with it: http://www.funshobby.com/combo/power-combo/motor-combo/tenshock-x802v2-6-pole-brushless-motor-ezrun-max8-v3-150a-esc-waterproof-brushless-speed-controller-t-plug-for-buggy-competition-traxxas-cod-x802v2-max8.html Good price too, probably cheaper then even if you bought in the UK even if you do get hit with import tax. (I didn't)
  9. Ouch, this is seriously going to hurt competition in Europe especially where prices are concerned. This is grave news indeed. I'm glad someone bought them at least anyway.
  10. It's currently running the MachStar 28 out of my converted hyper but I am planning on getting the LRP 32 when I have some spare cash. What about the second question? Sintered or Machined? Sorry for bombing the thread
  11. My savage still has the old 43/13, is the 29/9 defiantly worth it? Just been looking at prices, whats the difference between these http://www.modelsport.co.uk/hpi-sintered-bulletproof-diff-bevel-gear-29t-9t-set/rc-car-products/363706 and these http://www.modelsport.co.uk/hpi-machined-bulletproof-diff-bevel-gear-29t-9t-set/rc-car-products/35325 Is it worth paying the extra? I already have IRC alloy diff cups.
  12. Its well worth getting the savage x towers and diff cases, they give you the easy access diffs, just a few screws and the front of the case comes off. Much better then taking the while thing apart TVPs and all just to get to the diffs.
  13. Yes as Ian said you would have to replace the crocodile clips, I put deans on mine but I'm slowly moving over to xt60/xt90. I've not seen one of these that comes with any other type of connector. It all depends if its worth the trouble for you, otherwise just get a high mah normal one.
  14. What you are looking for is one of these: http://www.wheelspinmodels.co.uk/i/104834/ I got mine from Motorsport 2 years ago but they don't seem to sell them anymore. I never really used it much but be aware when using a lipo or similar it will put a higher current through the plug making it glow brighter then a normal glow starter which might make it start easier but it till reduce the life of the plug.
  15. Is that wt or cst? I've bought associated 60k cst diff oil in the past for my savage, so whats the equivalent cst if your numbers are in wt?
  16. Hi all, finished my Hyper SS electric conversion and took her for it's maiden voyage at the weekend and I'm really pleased with the results. Not having much experience with diff and shock oils would you say that they should be changed over the stock oils that came with it as a nitro rtr? I'm conscious the extra power of the brushless motor might be chewing the diffs up with "lighter" stock oils. Am I being paranoid? I don't actually know what the stock oil setup is anyone know?
  17. I've just put my Hobao Machstar 28 out of my Converted Hyper SS in my savage until I can afford a LRP ZR32 and I'm still running the silver ribbed exhaust that originally came with the Savage SS (Yes its 10 years old). Is it worth replacing this exhaust? Any major performance improvements? What would people recommend if so? Jammin JP3 or the HPI tuned pipe seems to be popular choices. The Jammin looks like it could be hard to mount as the exit pipe is angled in the wrong direction along with the return pressure pipe, also looks like you cant attach a deflector to it? Thanks
  18. Just converted my own hyper, its an SS rather then a 7 but the princliple is the same. See the thread below for the items I compiled that I needed. http://www.msuk-forum.co.uk/topic/213670-hyper-ss-electric-conversion The only thing I forgot to buy was the dogbones, the centre box is placed slight more forward on the electric chassis plate then the nitro version so the old dogbones didn't fit. Good fun to do I'd recommend it.
  19. Agree with the others buying the parts separately will cost you 2-3 times the amount of a new complete set, so its absolutely insane to go that path. I can relate to you wanting to build it from scratch, I've had 2 kit builds in the past and for me it was the most fun part of owning a hobby grade rc vehicle. However unassembled kits are rare these days, they all tend to be RTR (ready to run). If you really wanted to build from scratch you could get a Savage X SS (solid monster truck and the best buy IMO if all you are going to do is bashing rather than racing): http://www.modelsport.co.uk/hpi-savage-x-ss-4.6-kit/rc-car-products/392706 If you do not want a monster truck then you are probably looking at something like: http://www.modelsport.co.uk/losi-8ight-3.0-4wd-kit/rc-car-products/372864 http://www.modelsport.co.uk/hobao-hyper-st-truggy-pro/rc-car-products/28366 Only problem with the last two is they do not include the engine or exhaust so that will ramp up the initial cost unless you already have something to drop in. They all require radio gear also but only savage will require the radio to get it running. If you wanted to keep the cost down then 2nd hand is your only choice.
  20. Like I said in a previous post I did consider it but I would still have to get the motor, esc and batteries if i got the roller which would add unnecessary cost (about £80), but yes the VS roller is certainly a good price. On the other hand I wanted an excuse to take it apart, for me that's half the fun, I miss the days of the cars coming as unassembled kits, hate that they are all RTR now.
  21. Thanks for the info capri, just one last question do I need to get wire for the motor or does it come with it? should I get some bullet connectors as well? What thickness do you recommend?
  22. Just a last quick check before I hit the buy button, buying a lipo with a calculated ampage higher (as per the sticky thread) then your ESC is no problem right? I'm looking at getting the Turnigy 5000mAh 4S 14.8V 60C Hardcase Pack, so 300A (5 * 60) on 150A ESC. For those interested in my purchase list the only thing I've changed is the battery tray as I've read the stock one isn't that big so I've opted for a Losi one as recommended by a few threads: Tenshock X802V2 6 Pole Brushless Motor Hobbywing EZRUN Max8 V3 150A ESC 90063 - HoBao Hyper SS EP Chassis90057 - HoBao Hyper SS Motor Mount90059 - HoBao Hyper Cage Receiver Box & Servo Mount89326 - HoBao Hyper 9e Pinion Gear Gear 16t (5mm) LOSA4461 - Losi 8IghtE Battery Tray
  23. I did push my budget out a big further then I hoped but then I was expecting you guys to be suggesting some mega expensive motor so based on hyper-boy's suggestion everything is coming in at around £260 including a 4s lipo which I am very pleased with. The conversion parts are costing more then i hoped but thats the price of buying spares over a full kit, I did think of buying a roller, like the sse or the vs but i just can't justify another £80 and i have no need for 2 buggy's, besides this would give me the ability of switching back to nitro if i ever wanted. Thanks for the suggestions, if anyone has anymore I will consider them also.
  24. Hi all, I am thinking of finally taking the plunge and converting my 2 year old barely used Hyper SS nitro to electric as I don't think I can be bothered with the hassle of nitro any more. I've specced up the parts that I can work out from the manuals that I need to basically change it to a stock Hyper SSe model: 90063 - HoBao Hyper SS EP Chassis 90057 - HoBao Hyper SS Motor Mount 90060 - HoBao Hyper SS/Cage Battery Tray 90058 - HoBao Hyper SS/Cage Front/ Rear Chassis Stiffener Set 90059 - HoBao Hyper Cage Receiver Box & Servo Mount 89326 - HoBao Hyper 9e Pinion Gear Gear 16t (5mm) What I am currently struggling with is the ESC, Motor and Lipo selection and would like to ask for suggestions. I would like it to be 6s capable but I will probably start off with 4s to break myself into electric. For the ESC after looking at a few threads I have seen people recommending the Hobbywing 150a model (Hobbywing EZRUN MAX8-v3 Deans Plug 150A I believe?) which is fine but I'm unsure of what motor to pair it with. Any lipo recommendation would be appreciated too as I have not dabbled in lipos before, I already have 2 smart chargers capable of charging lipos so I'm sorted in that area. My budget I guess is around £350, the above Hobao parts are coming in around £100, leaving about £250 for the esc, motor and lipo. Might be willing to push the budget a bit more to get something decent but we'll see.
