    From Big Squid;

    Just announced by Carisma are new CNC Machined Aluminium Axles for the SCA-1E scale crawler.
    Not only do Carisma’s new axles look amazing, but they are also great for adding a significant amount of weight down low on your chassis to improve handling.
    Here are more highlights-

    * Made from CNC machined aerospace grade aluminum
    * Comes with natural aluminum finish, can also be painted
    * Comes with bearings
    * Front- #15889, Rear- #15890

    Pricing for the Carisma SCA-1E Aluminum Axles is from $85 to $99

    They should snag on the rocks quite nicely...

    Yeah, there's a lot of edges and screw heads to get burred-over

    According to their FB blurb;

    "Remember folks...these are precision CNC products, produced in aircraft grade alloy. Not, and I repeat not cheap cast alloy units made from a cheap grade of metal.

    First production run is limited, but we do feel the price is very competitive.

    The axles have been extensively tested with very positive feedback."

    CNC machined parts vs cast parts usually means a lot less wasted outlay if they don't take off - I spent years in engineering and cast parts only happened if the demand was guaranteed.

    The modular design is strange too, they could a turned most of the housing and just machined out the 'diff' cavity afterwards, then bunged a cap on it

    Yeah, that was pretty much a waste of time and effort on their part.

    i love the pessimism in this hobby when the company is trying something new on their own... I am happy that they are trying to put out upgrade parts, although they are out of my price range they might get other aftermarket companies attention who might jump on the ship and make some aftermarket upgrades, thus bringing the price down a tad.

    They would look better in black though as @RCbutcher said

    Not everything new is good though - the main problem with these housing is the amount of sharp, catchable edges.
    If you look at pretty much every other axle casing since the TLT, they've used a relatively smooth, largely spherical 'diff' housing - mainly because it doesn't present any faces on which to get hooked up.

    The modular design also adds a lot of potential tolerance accumulations and suggests they were made that way due to machine capabilties (size and machine axis issues) as opposed to any actual benefit to the user.

    I know they've always suggested the original modular design was so axle width could be changed on the SCA-1E, but that's not happened yet as far as I'm aware.

    You've also got a lot of metal into metal fastenings, so servicing will be a pig if threadlock gets used.

    Had they made them along the lines of the TLT or SCX MKI axles, they could've been machined as front and rear halves and left out a lot of the work.

    RC4WD can knock out a realistic looking CNC housing but, if it had to be modular, even a version of this would've been an aesthetic improvement;

    Just search CNC on RC4WD's site to see what is possible.
