hi all im having engine troubles its a stock 23cc fuelie with standed pipe it has only had around a tank and a half through it well heres what ive done to try and get it running

1, new plug (ngk)

2,reset to factory settings

3,checked for compression (loads as its a new engine)

4,fuel and oil mix (175ml of oil to 5 ltr of fuel)

hi all just got my baja and i carnt get it running right the first time i took it out i took it on road to test it as its my first petrol car (had a few nitro) it ran ok for around 15 mins then died and wouldnt start so i left it for around 20 mins and tryed againg and it started but not for long it lasted about 5 mins before it stalled so i left it for anotherday to try it again meanwhile i read a few engine trouble threads on here and i thought it was running rich so i turned the h needle clockwise to lean it out a bit and it got better so i took it to my local park, and it ran good for abou 15 to 20 mins then died again and i couldnt start it so i left it for 10 mins and tryed to start again and it wouldnt start so i took it home as i never had any tools with me to check the plug but when i got home i took the plug out and the was no spark and the plug was a bit wet with fuel so i turned the h needle clockwise 1/8th of and turn and threw the plug away and got a new ngk plug so the day after i tryed again with the new ngk plug tryed to start it and it would start but it would just die after 3 or 4 seconds and when i tryed to give it a little gas it would die straight away so i read so more threads on here and i decided to put it back to factory settings as i had been messing with the needles which are h needle 1 1/2 turns out and low needle 1 1/4 turns out and it started fine i tryed it in my back garden for around 5 mins and it was fine the way it should be but i have went to take it out for a run today and it ran for 10 mins and then died and wouldnt start and i have tryed for around 20 mins and i carn get it to start so i left it for 15 mins and the tryed again but i couldnt get it started so i took the plug out and gave it a few pulls upside down and then put the plug back it and tryed to start with the choke off and it wouldnt start so i put the choke on and then it started but when it was idleing it was reving and then dieing its hard to describe it sounded as if i was giving it a little throttle and then litting off the throttle (sounded like brum for a second and the just idle and brum idle) so i have put it in the boot of the car and come to ask you guys for some advice as im stumped all help would be grate

as you know mine was play up as in the video, it would run with the choke on of sorts but this was no fix. so today i striped the intake down and blew the carb through with an air line (foot pump) and reassembled. started it up and she went like a dream i think for me it was an air leak or something blocking the carb not sure which but it seams ok for now.

have you done the wd40 thing to check for leaks?

hope you get sorted i know what your going through

If its running like the video, then it sounds like you have air getting in around the carb. Some of the cheaper engines use naff isolator blocks (10mm thick block under carb) these dont have blind nuts but are just threaded and if they are done up too tight can distort the block.

The engine should run at factory settings, might not be best performance but it should run and tick over ok.

So i would suggest the following, set the carb back to its std settings. Take carb off of engine, clean air filter and re-oil filter and if you have some brake cleaner give the carb a blast out with this, while the carb is off push the primer to empty the carb of fuel (mind your eyes), check the gaskets, especially the one under the carb. put the carb back on and screw it down carefully, ensuring you get equal pressure on both bolts, do them both up loosely first and then pinch them up. Empty the tank and refill with new fuel and fit a new plug. When restarting put the choke on and prime the bubble, then pull the cord it should fire and then stop, turn the choke off and pull again it should fire and run, give it some throttle and it should smoke a bit, while doing this make sure the fuel cap on the tank is loose (it could be the breather is not working and your pulling a vacuum). If it starts and runs leave the cap loose and give it a blast around, then tighten the cap down and see if problem come back (if it does you have a duff cap).

Good luck

hi all thanks for all the help i have had the carb apart and had the engine to bits and also checked all the gaskets to make sure they were ok and then put it all back to gether and it was still the same and then i noticed that i let my little sister put the stickers on my car and she put one on the petrol cap right over the breather hole so i have took it off and it started first time and i let it tick over for 10 mins so it seems to be running fine i will give it a run out tomorra to see if its ok out bashing its back at factory setting high 1 1/2 turn out and low 1 1/4 turn out from fully in i have given the both needles a little 1/16 turn clockwise to lean them out a little and i will go from there will let yous all no tomorra what it was like
