Initial purchase price is about the same, but the Ryft needs electronics, most of which I have, but I'll have to spend about £100 on a motor. I really enjoy the process of building the cars, and that's what draws me to the Ryft, also that it's something a bit different. The Big Rock is interesting as it's raved about, built really well and goes like stink. I also have a Typhon which is pretty much the only car that doesn't break and need any work from drive to drive. Logic says get the Big Rock as a I don't have a monster truck, but I don't plan to bash it as such, but there is something about the look of the Ryft that's interesting, plus the fact it needs building.
