will a 1/16th esc run fine in a 1/8th

Read through build threads in the drifting section of the Forum, gives an indication as to what makes for a reliable car and you can research and price up your options accordingly

tbh, we are still trying to work out what scale and type you are going for. Just spend an evening or two researching what you want to do.
