At my last UK employer, anyone working outside (in the winter) or in climate chambers got about 600 quids worth of gear to use. Complete outer later. If you work for a company small enough to be under the radar, you should still be able to claim for gear against tax or something. Though I've not worked for a company that small for 20+ years.
