You will only need the 4 gear diff when the 2 gear breaks!!

Converted my ion today,

Trackstar 18amp esc,

2600kv hobbyking motor,

Turnigy 20-30c 1600 mah lipos,

Hpi tf40 tx and rx,

If I had known how much hassle it would be trying to get that motor to Line up right with a 14 t pinion I might not have bothered, had to do loads of cutting to motor mount and centre brace to get it lined up,

Awesome little truck ow tho.

The motor is 380 size in diameter suposedly but sits about 3 mm lower than the mounting plate so when you tighten the mounting screws on the under side of the chassis it pulls the bracket and chassis together around the bottom radius of the motor forcing the mesh apart.the scalloped out section where the original motor sits in is to short for the new motor forcing the back end up and changing the mesh angle, and the centre chassis brace above the drive shaft needs reducing to allow the motor to slide across enough for the 14 pinion, nightmare.

I too upgraded my lads Ion to Brushless.

Bought the Turnigy 1/18 Motor and ESC combo (KV4300).

Not got him Lipo but it is rapid on the NIMH. I don't think he'll be able to control it racing at our club but I have a cunning plan. I will switch the Forward/reverse on the controller and swap 2 of the motor wires so it will be going forward at reverse speed and more controllable.

Didn't have servo mounts, so chopped the original combined esc/receiver box up with the dremel.

JT, which servo mounts did you use? Got a link to purchase?

Yep did the same with my original esc/reciever,

Spoke to model sport when I ordered the pinion and the guy said "what are servo mounts".

So would also like to know which ones to use.

Built mine a while back.

Started off a a stock XB, then fitted a 25amp Toro Micro brushless setup with a 1500 mah lipo. I had to replace the body with an SC one to fit the ESC in.

Then fitted new Animus diffs..... followed by aluminium dogbones, aluminium wheels, aluminium centre driveshaft, and today a rear diff pinion.

I may be making too much power.

Even with the punch control on max its a bit wild.

I went for the same motor, esc & 2.2 Lipo as Jtheg

+ same gear upgrade,

I will use mini 8 servo mounts alloy,

maverick mv227212 rx to keep the original tx,

I have used 55mm n 60mm mini 8 shocks, this has actually lowered the car so need to source some better ones,

Then used the tyres from my new Bright Jeep wrangler, fitted with foam inserts.

Only have to fit the electrics now,

Mine would mot have been possible if it was not for Jtheg, so hats off you ;-)
