Engine heater required?

OK, I am new to all this - How do you measure your engine temp to know when they are up to temperature?

Thanks will get that one off model sport What should engine be heated to? And what is classed as too hot? (.21 Schumacher XTR engine if makes a difference)

You want to heat it as close to 80c or 180f as possible, don't worry if it doesnt go that high though, any heat is better on the engine before starting than no heat
