pug=309 Posted October 30, 2014 Share Posted October 30, 2014 Hi, i have managed to get a 1/8 scale clear beetle shell and plan on painting it in a Herbie livery (son loves Herbie, well don't we all), i know the real VW colour code if i were painting a solid shell, but i can't seem to find anywhere to custom mix paint for lexan/polycarbonate and looking at colour charts from lexan rattlecans has come up with Tamiya PS-57 (pearl white) as the closest colour. That was already painted with something...so you just need something to adhere (and not react) to that paint... Ah.. It is lexan and fresh... Do not go by the name of the colour...VW L87 Pearl Weiss is not the same colour as Tamiya PS-57 Pearl White.....one was formulated in the 1960s.... pug=309 Posted October 31, 2014 Author Share Posted October 31, 2014 Hey, yeah this is it http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171470688267 I was uber lucky to get this, was within that last hour of the sale (don't know why it didn't show up in any of my other searches) Yeah im now seriously weighing up the pro's and con's of spraying the shell with automotive paint, as i really want the correct colour, and i cannot find anywhere that dose custom polycarbonate paint. I might see a paint shop about mixing the colour up and ask if they could possibly add a bit extra elastisizer into the mix. Is it really so bad to paint lexan with automotive paint? Anthoop Posted October 31, 2014 Share Posted October 31, 2014 (edited) If you use a base coat then there is no need to use a plasticizer ((!)-a softening agent that allows flex))...when painting the inside you do not need the hard shiny coat that may need elasticity... If painting plastics then you need to paint it with something that will adhere...there are clear adhesion promoters available in aerosol...and they will work with paints not designed to paint lexan shells.
