  1. For getting in to hard to reach places and even the general places get yourself some brushes. A simple hand brush (soft) you use with a dustpan is ideal for a quick brush over. Then a 2 0 3 inch paint brush is ideal for getting in to a lot of other places, like around the fuel tank etc, don't be afraid of anything with these as you can brush as hard as you like but they clean up so much dust and even moist dirt. As to the after run oil, my way is to simply put a few drops in and then use the fly wheel underneath to just turn the engine over a couple of times at most, the engine will probably be cold with no fuel in it so i would not go turing it over more than you have to. Also make sure that the piston is BDC (bottom dead centre), you will feel when the fly wheel is tight when the piston is at the top (TDC) so just spin it around about half a turn to make sure its nice and loose. People usually recomend you use the AFO when your leaving the engine a while, but it wont do any harm to use it more often. You will get used to taking some parts out, as said just take the wheels off to start with, use the brush under a tap to wash them up. You will progress on to other parts when required, they don't all have to come out everytime. Oh and a damp brush is also a good thing after you have cleaned the initial dirt away to get any ground in dirt. Your cover again just use that big soft hand brush under a tap, it cleans up real quick and easy. These are my ways. Langy
  2. Thnaks for all the replies guys, most appreciated lots of different things to think about. Firstly I did try the McCoy MC9 plug today and it was a little groggy in getting started and seemed very rich at the low revs, I didn't want to adjust anything if it ran so I could try and compare the engine temps. I only mamanged to run one tank through before the neighbours came home (don't get on with then so don;t need to upset them anymore) but checking the engine temp it did not even reach 200F. However I did notice that when I put the car away the 90 degree pipe that comes out of the engine (for the exhaust) did hit near 300F, very wierd I thought. Also my exhaust is in a pretty bad way after smashing the small pipe yesterday as there are now holes either side of it spitting out the fuel right over the front wheel. Yesterday I also noticed that the rubber gasket (apologies for wrong terminology) mounted on the engine for the exhaust had a tear in it. This was one that I fitted from my Hyper 7 engine as teh exhaust fitted more snug. So I replaced it with the original one and the exhaust does not seem to be a very tight fit over it. Not sure if this will make any difference. Thanks dja I have had a look at the GO site and seen Think I have the needle in at least half a turn. With only runnign the engine at such low power there has always been plenty of smoke so thought I was far from the tuning spec of the HSN. I will put this flush again and see how the engine runs on temps then. So used to having to wind in the HSN a bit to start with and then fine tune the LSN. Looks like I will also have to try the air leak test at some point as well. Not sure how the back plate is but this is a non pull start engine so guess there must be a back plate there somewhere to check. On the exhaust, does anyone know how what sort of temp should be going out of teh final small pipe? I did have a thought last night that I could possibly solder up the holes if the temp is below the engine running temp. Would need to do a melting temp test on the solde I have first. Anymore advice most appreciated. God this engine is hard work, all I want is a reliable engine without anymore expense and hassle so I can just go to my local track for 5 min races. I know I'm going to be far from the best but would like to compete with the bottom end of the people. Langy
  3. Oh and I forgot to mention that whilst finishing the run in today I managed to smash the pipe. The small outlet pipe got pushed right back so I have managed to put it back in place but it now needs replacing as it wont take much to knock it off. Not sure if this would effect the engine temp? 4. I've a GO .21 engine that I've managed to put through about half a gallon so far. This was to replace my older standard Hyper 7 engine that got cooked. The engine seems to be running far too hot for my liking at the moment, just running it around the garden and i'm already getting 280+, so I've soon stopped as I don;t want to do the same with this engine as the last one. The main needle is only in about half a turn from the factory flush settings and seems still to be running fairly rich. I'm running on Byron Gen 2 25% fuel that I have always used. I'm using a GO N3 Plug which I believe to be a hot one. I also have a new McCoy MC-9 what I used for my old Hyper 7 engine, would this be too cold or would this sort out my issue? I would rather run the engine a little more rich and cooler than possibly cook it like the last one. Thanks in advance for your help. Langy
  5. Im sure someone will be able to advise better on where to cable tie the battery pack on this model. As far as I am aware on most models the battery pack usually sits very near to the receiver as you need your switch etc to connect the batter to the receiver and then receiver to servos. The switch often has 3 sets of leads, one for battery to switch, one for switch to receiver and sometimes one laying spare so that you can charge your battery pack without having to disconnect the battery everytime. Hope this helps a little. Perhaps you should post a pic and then people can also help further who do not know the model.

    Kits

Just to add another option here. If you are able to get a full parts list of a car then there are an awful lot of cheap parts (new) flying around ebay. I was surprised when I looked for bits on my Hyper 7 where there are bits going for around
  7. Someone else will give you better advise on this one. Id guess tho that the hole will cause you issues with the engine running, but by how much I do not know. I'd advise tho that you buy a proper sealed back plate and go for a starter box, its far easier and when you have re-wound your pull start 3+ times your sure glad to get rid of them.
  8. Well unless I get any other suggestions I will order one of these tomorrow. I take it that these are all standard sized to go straight in to a Hyper 7.
  9. You could try one of these at
  10. I guess your obviously using the Pull Start, a real pain they are. To me (no expert) sounds like you got a fuel problem. If you turn the engine over on the fly wheel is there plenty of compression (ie you can feel it hard to push round when teh piston is at the top of the engine)? Have you checked the glow plug with the starter out of the engine? When you replaced the one way bearing are you sure that everything has gone back correctly? Can you feel the engine turning over when you pull the pull start the same way as the fly wheel goes round.
  11. Just looked further on the Modelsport site and found this Spectrum HI Torque at
  12. Hello Everyone OK I replaced my worn out standard Hyper 7 steering servo last year wuth the Hi-Tec HS-645MG as it came with good comments from you guys as it was strong and all metal gears. This servo has finally burnt out, don't know why as I was only running the car around the garden running in a new engine so hardly much load on it. These are obviously out dated and as far as I can see there is only one E-Bay seller in the UK selling these now for around
  13. Well several people have reand and no replies. I've taken the plunge and ordered the engine, also ordered a couple of Go N3 glow plugs to use in it. Does anyone have running in instructions for these engines and is there an alternate glow plug that I can use? I currently use McCoy MC-9 Glow plugs and Byron Gen2 Fuel - 25% on my Hyper 7 21 engine.
  14. Hello Been a long time since I've been on the site, trying to get my car up and running again. I have a standard Hyper 7 with a 3 port .21 engine. Due to overheating I suspect that the piston / liner is now worn. One alternative I'm looking at is a new engine. I'm on a very tight budget and spotted the Go .21 3 Port Sport Engine NON Pull Start engine at eBay. Can anyone tell me how they compare to the original engine I have and what they are really like. The car is only being used for bashing and a local track where they have 5 minute racers, usually 3 races in a night. I just want something thats easy to tune, going to be reliable and last. The track is very bumpy and even with the best engine will far from guarantee you being in the top so it doesn't have to be the fastest. Thanks for any advice in advance. Langy

Well it looks like we got a nice influx of a few new members. Could do with more people on the site during the daytime and very late at night though. Langy
  16. Read the tutorial on repairing the pull start. Its a real pain the first time. I did nime about 5 times and now its quite easy and quick to repair. However I've ditched using the pull start now for a Starter box. Langy
  17. I guess your pull start has broken. There is a tutorial on the site here on how to repair them. Excellent and well recommended, I used it a few times before I finally ditched using teh pull start and bought a starter box. Langy
  18. Not sure about the fuel, I would expect it has a low freezing point like most fuels. For storage of your gear I actually keep my Hyper 7 in a wooden box and its down in my garden shed which is actually the back off a lorry so will get to freezing temperatures. The extra layer of the box should help to keep out the damp etc but even I may move it to one of my other sheds which are both fully insulated. You could always use a few small sheets of ply to create a box and just line it with polystyrene which will insulate it. Store it on a bench and cover it with an old matt or something will fully keep the frost and hopefully dampness at bay. Langy
  19. Nice one! But dont reply on the run on flats as they also fail. My old boss had that on his BMW, the tyre shredded of the wheel. He was stuck on the north Norfolk coast for 2 hours whilst waiting for recovery. Langy
  20. Only way is to try the forgot password option. Failing that they may do something if you provide accurate registering information, that is if you can actually contact them. I've had teh exact same problem with my original ebay account. Had to create a new one and lose all y feedback. Still battling with them now. Langy
  21. Now they couldn't have even staged that - better that You've Been Framed! LOL
  22. The Hyper 7 is one of the most popular cars about. If you have a friend with a Nitro then buy new off the web like with modelsport. You will save a fortune and your friend will be able to help you run it in / tune it. Langy
  23. Thats what I was hoping.
  24. Just a quick question, does anyone know what the actual sensor mount is used for on the Hyper 7 located next to the steering servo? Also what the hole size is? Langy
