  1. Great idea! Personally I just watch out for slow response in steering - as soon as I spot this, I know it's time to change the pack. Having said, when I WOT on my remote, the failsafe (mtronics) kicks in for some reason (so I can never hold the trigger down fully), and as the battery pack wears down, the point at which it kicks in gradually worsens. This is my second sign.... (But I still don't get why my failsafe is doing this!)

    Paints

Hi all, I'm looking into painting my hyper 7 shell - the standard one (and spoiler/wheels) look pretty boring. Any idea on what paints should be used on the body and plastic parts (spoiler/wheels)? Thanks!
  3. Ziggy, What engines would specifically fit the hyper 7 in the .25 - .28 range? the STS .28 for e.g., would that fit? What determines whever it will fit or not? I'm interested in this topic too, for future upgrades. I'm not racing so a bigger engine would be a good option. What do Hyper 7 bashers recommend? Thanks!
  4. Good point - but need a tapping screw (or whatever they are called)! As much as I would love it, I no longer have access to a mechanil engineering workshop (damn those days were good). I went for the cheap purple one - should do the job. If later on I decide I need an upgrade I might just reconsider a whole new engine, 8 port .21 or a .28 STS or something along those lines! Thanks for advice
  5. Well maybe mine was weak in the first place. I use to tighten the glow plugs pretty tight to make sure I had no air leaks. When the copper ring started being marked I knew I was covered for air leaks. Having said I was suprised that it broke too - didn't think I was overdoing it... I think it was bad quality or flawed somehow, I wasn't being overboard on the tightening I don't think...
  6. I found this one too now: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ofna-Hyper-21-Nova-R...ksid=p1638.m122 It would apparently provide better cooling than the standard one - does that mean I can lean the engine out a little more and get better perf for the same temperature? Worth the extra $ in your opinion? Thanks again!
  7. I wrecked the screw thread in which the glow plug goes! Thanks for link and advice guys - that one is a lot cheaper!
  8. This one, for example, should be better than the standard one I assume? http://www.rcmart.com/catalog/product_info...roducts_id=9717 However I take it not any .21 cylinder head will do - it has to be same make, is that correct?
  9. Hi all, I have unfortunately broken the thread to screw in the glow plug in the cyclinder head. I have removed it, and I need a replacement... I see the standard one (21002) is going for
  10. Thanks for advice. The car doesn't creep up on idle, and the air intake opening is very small (less than 1mm). One of the reasons for those fast runs was exactly that - temperature checking. At no point did I get a smoking engine, much higher idle or any other consequence of a too lean mix. I have no temp gun, but the spit test is fine, takes a few seconds to disappear, doesn't sizzle off! (The heatsink will start hurting if I leave my hands on it too long, but it's far from being scolding.) I will buy a temp gun at some point and see what the readings are, I will also upload another vid, exterior view might provide a better insight on how the engine is tuned! Thanks again Ziggy, good to have some feedback. Next run I will try closing the MSN a tad, and richening the LSN just to be on the safe side.
  11. Agreed - my idle does sound a little high. It sounds fine from the exterior, but strangely seems a little wrong from onboard cam. So Ziggy, for fast runs like those, you'd recommend richening up a little? Do you recommend doing that on the MSN or the HSN? The car smokes quite a bit, at both medium and high revs. On idle it still spits small dropplets of oil. I take it when it's tuned optimally fast runs shouldn't be maintained too long... the temperature is the fine BTW, I can leave my hand on the heatsink, it's definitely not overheating. Still recommend richening up a bit? I'll upload an external vid too, will be good to hear your feedback. Thanks! As for the cam, it's a minolta compact camera that was strapped and fixed to the back of the car. Some cardboard, ducktape and patience can do wonders, although the road holding is clearly not so good with the onboard cam! Thanks for tips and comments guys - I'm still new to this game, they are much appreciated.
  12. Hey guys, This is my first video, onboard camera of my Hyper 7. I have the exterior video of the same run too, makes it pretty good to watch, but haven't had time to edit it yet. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZvJpagimFDw Enjoy!
  13. Is the O'Donnell temp gun an infrared one? How does it compare to others? (Atomik, HPI...)
