  1. Nice one , Welcome to the Early RR5 Club !! Looking forward to mine 2-3 weeks .
  2. Well good start for the RR5 A weeks hard racing at the Euros and being crowned European 4x4 Champion (and 2nd as well ) and running in nearly 40 deg heat to boot below link to the final on R/C TV .
  3. The ball drives are only at one end Universal at the other ,Increase the ball size and Joint size for greater angle ,not that it is compares to some dog bone set ups , I don't know it will be 100% , I doubt they would put Mega money into a project ,so they could get a headache for fun ,they are in it to win Races ,which they have done all over . As I said better thought out than most extensively tested by top Race guys for hours , So if Joe Bloggs from Chippingarsole knows better , I am sure his factory Invite just got lost in the post and his opinion is sadly missed .
  4. I had a think looked at the pics and spec , Just couldn't believe they would use Dog bones on the cenrtal Tranny at those angles ,Anyway thet don't ,Ball drives to Centre Diff ,and Large CVD type universal Joints to the F & R diffs . Still it's allways good to Oil your Balls anyway !!!
  5. Dave , I will Admit it was an area of concern to me ,and perhaps it's a higher priority maintenance area ,than a straight cup set up , time will tell , I asked the Question ,and they said provided the Boots were fitted and the area lubricated regularly ,it kept the temp down and reduced ware and tare ,and they were not worried after hard testing at the Lizard Belly Istanbul Circuit ,the biggest ware item was tyres ,on the rock ,they got through a lot .
  6. Front Brake and Throttle one Large servo (or high power small ) rear Brakes one small servo
  7. The Final spec ( what's inc at delivery ) yet to be finalised ,but it's expected to Retail at
  8. Ordered mine Yesterday , If you look at the spec in detail ,some very clever touches and top Quality , the layout dates back years ,but some modern twists , Top Job
  9. Hey Up N H !!! nice to nice , Luckily we got through to them on threadlock , and I sold my Jackhammer !!! . You are right as well ,Race Orientated , or in my case Hobby driver , and MCD Guru . Cheers Mike
  10. Holy S4it You Guys don't Go off Topic ,you go into a Facebook Desert . The topic the expensive race out of the box MCD RR5 Now anyone want to talk about it !!!!! After some research and having owned quite a few MCD's ,I decided to Order One Today ,and Yes I am Smiling
  11. Got to Agree with Dave (Roverman ) generally the race guys are very helpful to fellow competitors ,no matter what you drive ,yes they will have some fun and banter , a few are very focused on the racing . As for the latest Gear /Models well the top few guys need it for those extra seconds ,but a very good driver who makes less mistakes ,might need less , a car ,a driver and an engine all need to be tuned in to win ,and set ups are very Important . Back to the RR5. MCD have not finalised the spec ,still making changes as they test ,when they are ready the shell off shots and specs will be released
  12. So Guys have a Guess on price
  13. Full or more details after it's rumored first outing at the German Nationals this weekend , All new Layout very high quality and spec , a few details to be confirmed ,3 new Large LSD's ,Alloy towers ,Milled chassis , tuned pipe ...... .
  14. They are M 2.6 ,you are better off with cap heads ,I would order 20 or so keep you going years . Bottom of page : http://www.modelfixings.co.uk/miniature_cap_screws.htm I just do Believe it Victor Meldrew
  15. I really wouldn't recommend running tight gears ,a lot of aftermarket mcd carriers over the years ,had Incorrect shaft hole centres (originally designed for plastic gears ) , These not only resulted in poor transmission performance ,but overheating bearings ,and clutches etc... and general drive train problems , I had 3-4 different ones ,cost me a lot in the long run
  16. The FT V4 had the much better LSD's as std ,Vanadium diff cups ,Factory team hardened axles ,and much more , Loads you can do to it , but it's pretty good out of the box , I would go for an Alloy gear carrier (when you can ,very expensive ) the Rolex of gear carriers ,and look into Jofer USA Trays , especially the tank tray http://www.joferusa....sa.com/????also available from European dealers . First job though Loose the Rubbish fuel tube and fit genuine Tygon and a Zenoah/Cobra winged tank fuel filter . Wish you well with it , If you have trouble getting on MCD forum (lots of spammers apply ) PM me with password /e-mail/user name and I will Join you up . Cheers VM
  17. Thanks again Guys !!!! If anyone is interested in some of Jon Millers shells he has done for me ,I did a topic here http://www.mcdrc.com/forum/index.php?topic=2893.0 sorry mods can't re do all the pics "Live " will take for ever to dig out of 200 plus albums
  18. Jason , I have had a fair few shells off Jon over the Years , the last 2-3 have been right up there skill wise , It works like this , I find a design ,he moans , I say think how good you will feel when it's done !!!! Price wise , well .......... Lots . A gentleman never tells ,always best getting a quote as they are all different .
  19. Had to share this stunning Paint Job with you guys , took some persuading to get him to do such a complicated job !!!!! I am Gob Smacked how detailed and Stunning it is , My X4 FT Alloy Edition now complete . Album here http://s430.photobuc...mview=slideshow
  20. I Kinda like MCD , did the Evo 3 ,then Ultimate , and stuck with them , Ran an almost stock V4 for 12 months along side my ultimate ,and the V4 got more use , better to drive ,then as upgrades arrived ( and a few of us got parts made By Jofer and other people ) right now a V4 is an excellent machine . Never had any major Issues , Sensible maintenance and no problems comp or FT models. As for extras ,they all need them depending on what you do ,
  21. Xr77 for me as long as I can get it, std engine or tuned one ,also 99oct tesco premium as well . Heard all the well my Grandad swears by XXXXX that I found in his shed , you can even **** a strimmer up with the wrong mix of naff oil , buy the best pays in clean performance ,and long term wear and tare . Good Air Filtration ,Good Oil makes for a clean running engine ,less wear on bearings ,internals etc , and we are talking what an extra
  22. Well ,you did the right thing , I have 2 Evo Engines right now ,one new Stage 3 RS with Modellsport Crank ,and a earlier Stage 3 MS crank , both are very Quick and very smooth ,in fact ,Stage 1/2/3 and you have a good range of power choices to suit ,Just had the earlier one serviced for a very reasonable
  23. Nobody said they were compulsory !!! the theory is a hardened part (or not ) deteriorate when ground with muck and sand ,or with say dog bone on /off power hits ,and once the surface breaks go down hill fast , so boots just help ,with a touch of sticky grease in them .
