  1. Thanks for the info, perhaps this winter I will spend some money on the engine and do it all properly.
  2. Seems ive been had over a little bit then because it looks as though there is only one gasket (a rubbery type one) although difficult to tell without taking it apart I guess. Its quick enough as is though. When you say not very reliable stacking gaskets, is it likely to cause damage?
  3. The cylinder block is a CY and it says 28-35 on it. Looks like I was ddiled, so not a 29cc and presumably no 2mm stroker crank either
  4. Also, do I need to pay and special attention to the reciever, will any receiver be ok to power that big steering servo?
  5. Been offered a Sanwa M11 40Mhz for not much money at all, anyone have opinions on these? I have to get a replacement because something is buggered, its impossible to hold full throttle once the car gets over about 3 meters away, the throttle is coming off and back on all the time and some crazy steering all on ts own which is just not funnd. Its fine when its right in front of me though so something wrong with the transmitter or receiver I guess.
  6. Ok, I will get the cover off tomorrow and see what I find, Thanks for your help, much appreciated
  7. Great, I was a little wary as you know what they say, when something sounds too good to be true!
  8. Thanks man I will check that out next time its on the workbench. So the crank case is the same no matter what cc the engine is then. I've been doing a bit more reading and it seems like sometimes you need to stack gaskets to use the 2mm stroker, i dont know, something about squish lol. Ah ok, I use 3M TL42 Medium threadlock on everything because I ...eerrr... "borrowed" it from work Presumably the red stuff handles the heat better? I also ordered up a couple of heavy duty zenoah exhaust gaskets from abotsrc whick look a lot meatier than the stock gaskets. Anyone know if abotsrc is good, they seem to be quite cheap for some things, drive axles for example were a good bit cheaper than I could find elswhere. I kinda wish I'd bought a new baja now, with what I've spent on top of the original puchase buying bits I could have bought a brand new one. That said a lot of those bits were not required, just spares ready for when I break stuff
  9. Hi, I've hit this forum a couple of times now and got some good help so back again with more q's Totally new to 1/5 scale and bought a used baja off ebay. In the listing, it was advertised as having "29CC RACE PORTED BIG BORE KIT WITH 2 STROKER CRANK" Now as far as I can tell the engine is fine, I wouldnt really have a clue if it wasnt but it starts fine, even without a choke, it seems to run fine and goes like stink but at some point the tinkerer in me will want to strip that engine and have a look at the internals. The pullstart cover says its a zenoah GT260RC (but could just be any old cover I guess), which would be a 26cc right? Presumably the big bore kit then takes that up to 29cc. Are the big bore kits interchangeable, so any make of kit can be used with the zenoah bottom end. Also, looking at the stroker kits they seem to require further modifiactions of existing parts so im just a little confused by it all, probably would have been best to buy a stock motor and upgrade it myself I guess. Sorry to ask all these questions but most folk here seem to know what they;re on about Oh, exhaust question too... it has a dominator tuned pipe and the guy I bought it off said it needed new exhaust gaskets which I replaced. I used the stock HPI gasket listed in the manual but I see it is leaking (black stuff all around the exhaust mounting) after only 2 tanks being run through. Am I supposed to use a different gasket or did I do something wrong when I installed it maybe?
  10. Well the tyres were definitely the biggest cause of my problems. I just made it out with the new set of badlands fitted and wow, what a difference. I was able to blast around on soaking wet grass no problem (other than the mess I how have to clean off the baja). Great, even if they arent the best tyre choice at least I know it wasn't all down to lack of driver skill
  11. There is nothing written on it at all on it other than the number three in the little half circle lug. There's nothing written on the old ones either, just the number 3 again. The manual says to use spacer with no 4 on it but that looks like a savage toe-in to me
  12. Ah im with you now as I literally just received a rear hub set. The old hub has a No.3 spacer fitted which presumably is the 2 degree offset. I'll admit some of the stability issues could just be the driver, some could be the worn tyres no? I guess I'll find out if the tyres are the culprit as soon as I get it all back together, perhaps tyre choice is also something to do with it. The original tyres were PL Badlands so I bought a new set of those. The old foam inserts were fairly soft, the new ones that came with the badlands seem much harder. Are these the right sort of tyres for someone who drives mainly on a loose dusty surface and grass? On grass I pretty much could do nothing but donuts, fin for 2 minutes but soon gets old. Is there also a way to not have so much grunt at takeoff, is that down to gearing somewhere? I learnt rather quickly not to stand behind the baja when taking off on loose gravel tyep surfaces otherwise you end up with a bunch of stones hitting you in your stones lol
  13. Ah, so the first link to the vertigo V1 isnt actually a V1 at all and thats why they dont look like them They do indeel look similar to your pic (like the cable tie btw) only mine are threaded to the very ends, are your threads just stripped at the very end? Either way I guess it makes very little odds now since the design was changed and so I'll need to replace them with something current. Thanks all very much for your elite identifying skills How much differently would it handle if I just took them off and went back to stock? The thing is an absolute nightmare to handle at the moment, it just spins its wheels like hell as soon as you squeeze any power on and spins out as soon as you steer... I put new rear tyres on as the ones it came with were pretty well worn so hopefully that will help but I dont know, I think its just too powerful lol. Seemingly it has a zeonah 29.5 with some big bore modification and stroker thing in it. Im sure it would be really fast if I could keep it under control lol
