  1. Evening. Do you guys still meet? I’ve got a Truggy 4.6 and everywhere local I take it moan about the noise, usually get a dog walker making a b-line for me a mile away to complain… Just about to get a Rovan AS1 and they’re even noisier so I’ve been informed so needing somewhere to go without hassle.. I don’t know anyone in the ‘scene’, and I got back into the Nitros during Covid, but since then had a little one so shelved them… Cheers, J
  2. Hey mate it’s what the car came with - I’d only had it 2 weeks when this happened. I’d considered upgrading to a 3 shoe later down the line when needed... I mentioned earlier that I’d contacted HPI and that I thought they were simply giving me a parts list; I take that back. The nice man (or woman) I’ve been dealing with via email was simply stating all the parts, asking me to check further, as they have confirmed that the incorrect bearing was installed from factory, this has caused damage to the clutch bell, flywheel, potentially spur gear and the cone spacer behind the fly (which was causing the untrue run out), not the crank... He’s putting through a warrantee claim, and sending me the replacement parts free of charges. My faith has been restored in HPI, I didn’t expect even a response, but to admit full liability, help me assess the parts for potential damage and then (I assume) send me the replacement parts is stellar service in my opinion! Cant wait time get this back bashing! thanks J
  3. So far I’ve been recommended replacement parts by the seller and free postage, which is fine I guess. HPI direct at present just listing name replacement parts. Which I’m still in talks with - it’s a bit sketch. The clutch bell has really nackered the flywheel, to the point where the flywheel isn’t running perfectly true... hopefully not damaged the engine!
  4. Good to know mate, it’s a shame. I’m not as experienced as most on here I’m sure, but it’s pretty evident the parts were installed incorrectly at factory. This is the inner clutch bell bearing, look at the slop in it, it’s no wonder it has messed the flywheel up! Id have like someone to put their hands up and say ‘hey, wrong part installed, our fault, we’ll help you sort it’. But, it seems all anyone’s done so far is send me links to buy replacement parts. 2 week old car, breaks due to wrong parts installed and I’m forking out for a new clutch, flywheel, clutch bell, and gear. Just stinks to me! J
  5. Hey man I contacted the shop that sold it who confirmed it had incorrect bearings fitted, from factory. Something they said they’ve never seen in 100+ kits sold... doesn’t make it any less bitter for me! Unfortunately that’s about it, they recommended me a new clutch / bearing set and refunded me postage which I suppose is better than nothing - my memories of HPI were quality parts for reasonable cost. All I’ve read about it the clutches being made of cheese, the diff cups breaking, servos breaking and the wheels snapping/coming off! I know the 4.6 isn’t THAT expensive, but at near £400 you’d expect the clutch for example to last more than 10-20 tanks? And you’d definitely expect the right bearings installed... I emailed HPI direct, cause it’s nackered the flywheel, bell and everything else... which I don’t think is right since it’s a direct cause of wrong bearings being installed at factory... still, I want to get it fixed and start bashing it again... and fix the rs4 when the parts eventually arrive! j
  6. thanks dude, I checked the manual and thought the same. I originally thought the bearing was the incorrect size (maybe it was), but it looks like one is 5x10x4, the other I W more like 4x9x4 - I’ve been told in a few groups that it’s pretty common for these bearings to eat themselves... I read the clutch goes quick on this thread also... it’s just disappointing cause I’ve only had the car two weeks and it’s already not working! New bearings on order though, I’ll use the time to rework my RS4-2 i guess! thanks chap, J
  7. Sorry to revive a dead thread, but looking for advice... recently bought a truggy and after around 20 tanks the clutch decided to drag, cut out at idle and scratch all the nice orange flywheel. Anyway, I took it apart expecting a broken clutch spring, the spring was fine, clutch was fine - the clutch well was wobbling around time touch, hence the scratched flywheel. I took it all apart and lay it on the floor next to the exploded diagram in the book, the book shows the clutch, then a e-ring, then bearing, then bell house, One bearing, followed by 5 washers, then 1 retaining washer followed by screw cap. Mine was a little different... clutch, e-ring, 1 washer, one bearing, bell housing, one bearing, 4 washers and then 1 retaining washer followed by screw cap. The exploded view shows two bearings the same size, 5x10mm. I have one 5x10mm and one 5x8mm, which I presume caused the wobble, stopped the car from idling and scratched the flywheel making awful noises. Can anyone confirm? I hope the above makes sense - this was brand new sealed from a seller, so it seems odd it wasn’t as per the book? Cheers. Jay
  8. I used a detailing brush I used to use on my car, with all purpose cleaner if messy... the brush loosens up the dirt and grass and you can blow it off with compressed air out of a can. not really got it muddy though 😬
  9. Just remember that you can fill the 1tb harddrive up quite quick if you do a lot of gaming - the latest call of duty takes a whopping 180gb of storage, Forza took 60gb and GTA 90gb! thats a fair chunk - factor in a external harddrive, mines a 2tb seagate one, works wonders! Worth checking sites likes pricerunner before buying games, some bargains to be had! J
  10. Thanks mate, I’ve never really been a key follower of temp readings, I usually just go by the sound it makes (if it’s pinging high revs it’s too lean), the performance, the billow I’d smoke (opti is definitely more smokey than the model one I used on other cars!), and if it’s spitting cool oil out the exhaust... which mine seems to be doing well! i’m on about tank 20 now so it’s still a fresh engine for sure. Loving it! thanks again!
  11. Hi all, new to the site so forgive the stupid question... I’ve recently bought got a hpi truggy and I’m now trying to tune it. I did the break-in; 1 idle 4x heat cycles and then 1x 70%ish throttle runs before starting to tune it. I started off by turning the HSN 1/8th turn, it picked up on performance sharply, it’s probably have 1/2 - 2/3 a clockwise turn in total... it runs and idles great. The temp seems to be running up to 135c at the plug, the book states it should be 110c and no higher than 120c, so what’s the issue? If I turn the screw back counter clockwise to richen it up the performance drops down and it bogs. I’m on tank 15 and it’s causing me bother, am I worrying too much? It sounds fine and it’s got a healthy trail of smoke, especially at full throttle; running 20% optipower RTR. hope this isn’t a totally stupid thing to ask! J
  12. Check out what I found in the box, the tank and the original stickers!
  13. thanks chap, hopefully the tank is in my parents loft - I’ve been out to check today and the engine is tight - it looks like the 4 hex screws holding the head down are also corroded and rounded, I was hoping I’d be able to remove it and check the piston / sleeve. the shell is actually mint! It’s just got no decals, which is a shame... I’m in the process of renovating my garage, once it’s done I’ll get a workbench and start tinkering 😬 J
  14. Thanks dude, hoping to get into it so I think it’ll be one of many purchases! J
  15. Morning all! New member here, looking for some help identifying more on the above! I’ve dug this out and think it must be at least 20 years old! From what I can tell, the fuel tanks missing, the engines very tight and the one way bearing in the pull cord is broken! Any ideas how I’d go about locating the bits to put it right? It doesn’t even look like the shell was ever finished, looks like it was put together, cord snapped and then left in the box! Cheers, J
